Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is truly a fun, innovative, refreshing take on the Call of Duty formula. Let that be the excellent Campaign, the mayhem of Multiplayer, or the return of the beloved Treyarch Zombies. No matter the mode, fun awaits in each of them.

When all is said and done Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War delivers an exciting, and intriguing spy story with its campaign. While it only clocks in at about six hours, those six hours rarely failed to entertain me. As a single piece of a bundle, it is top notch. However, if the rest of the game’s offerings hold no interest for you, I don’t know if it’ll be enough to justify the full purchase price.

In the end, I don't want to remove the responsibility of saying take it or not, because the image of Call of Duty games is obvious. That's why I'm adding it to the list of games that should be given the chance.

What I’d hoped for was a detailed but fun shooter which makes the most of its setting. What I got is Call Of Duty With The Soviets As The Bad Guys, albeit with about as much realism as an 80s straight-to-VHS action movie but without the self-awareness.

Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War offers on of the best campaigns in years and extends the zombie mode in the right areas. Even if the campaign is extremly short and the new multiplayer modes don't really hit the spot, Call of Duty Fans will get the usual whole package and can hope for free Updates in the future.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War offers fun and mind-bending Campaign. Certain elements like dialog options, multiple endings, and non-linear levels were less prevalent in the series. However, the length of the Campaign is pretty short and exactly when you reach the story’s climax, the story comes to a close. Rocky development and the current world situation have made the Multiplayer and Zombies a bit lacking and buggy but if you don’t encounter those bugs throughout the game, you’re in for a fun ride. The [somewhat] return of the Prestige system adds a huge replayability value to the game. This game has great foundations. The gunplay is stellar, the map design is good and the graphics look great on the new consoles. Underneath all the bugs and crashes lies a great Call of Duty game. We have to wait and see how Treyarch handles this game and makes it what it’s meant to be.

Overall, there have been better Call of Duty games in the past, particularly around the single-player campaign. But Black Ops Cold war gets both the multiplayer mode and zombies just right and those are the ones that really count most for fans.

The most interesting and inventive campaign in the franchise makes this well worth the price of entry. Sadly the multiplayer modes don’t live up to the high bar set by the single-player mode.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War isn’t the evolution I thought it would be, but it is an excellent entry and return to form for a series that’s lost its way, but now has been found. There’s a familiar sense of movement and way the game plays that reminds you this is a Treyarch game, in all the best ways. The game feels less of a complete package due to how few multiplayer maps there are, and how Warzone feels like a less natural transition as it was in Modern Warfare. The campaign is short and sweet, but does some things to create a shared universe for future games to build off of. Black Ops Cold War is a really exciting 80s shooter that has yet to reach its full potential, but the state that it’s in currently is really fulfilling.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War does not fully exploit its potential, showing itself with a very short-lived campaign, few maps for multiplayer and a single map for the zombie experience. Treyarch is surprising but still has a lot to do.

While "Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War" is undoubtedly a Call of Duty with a lot of effort behind it, it’s unable to fully convince, taking two steps behind and just one ahead. However, one thing is for certain: Black Ops wants to come back, and there are reasons to believe in a bright future for the franchise.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a return to the series roots in regard to everything while also fully embracing its 1980’s setting. Following in the footsteps of Modern Warfare, it shows that the series should never forget what has defined it as a gaming icon.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War serves as another example of how the series has been slowly trending downward, with more preventable issues cloaked in a cover of high-end graphics.

In the end Black Ops Cold War does not reinvent the franchise but rather gives players more of what they have come to expect with a few new wrinkles to the mix.

Raven Software e Treyarch bring us a complete and satisfying CoD package, with a spectacular - even if fragmented - Campaign and many multiplayer modes. The new Zombi mode feels finally fleshed out and more integrated to the rest of the game and competitive multiplayer is more balanced even if missing some of last year's features, but the classical modes' maps are too few and sometimes limited. All in all, a solid CoD episode capable of keeping us engaged until the next one.

Is Cold War a step up from Modern Warfare? It is hard to say considering we are very much at the peak of first-person shooter games, and that Call of Duty games always tread the line between realism and arcade-style shooting gallery. All things considered, it is a great game by its own right, confidently taking the baton from Modern Warfare and confidently making the race its own.
