Hotshot Racing is an incredible nostalgia trip that I cannot recommend enough. Game Pass owners should note that the game is included in Microsoft’s service, so there is no excuse not to give it a try. This is the most fun I have had with a racing game in quite some time.

High on speed and low on polygons, Hotshot Racing is a fun, old-school ode to the golden era of early '90s 3D racers.

Retro racers definitely don't get much better than Hotshot Racing so if you have a fondness for racing in the '90s, you're sure to love it.

Both a very nice tribute to Virtua Racing and a good arcade racing game per-se, Hotshot Racing is a nice single-player experience and a surprising multiplayer package.

Once I got the hang of drifting, I really started enjoying Hotshot Racing, but it will not sustain me as a solo player for long. Its utility (for me) will be multiplayer shenanigans, which is just fine.

The quips from the racers, the announcer yelling “CHECKPOINT!” every time you cross over one, and even the music evoke the feeling of sitting down in a seat of an old racing cabinet, putting some quarters in, gripping the steering wheel, and mashing the gas pedal. Of course, the wheel and seat will be missing in most home racing experiences, Hotshot Racing is still plenty of fun without them. If you want to take a short trip back in time to the ’90s, this is one ride you won’t want to miss.

Hotshot Racing is a stylish, fast, fluid, arcade racing game that brought back memories of some classic titles. The sense of speed it delivers is satisfying and sliding around corners to build up my boost never got old. Some things need to be done about the rubberbanding AI and some more variety in the track layouts will be welcome. Fans of Daytona USA, Outrun, and similar games should have no doubts about giving Hotshot Racing some gas.

Virtua Racing, Scud Racing, Daytona, Outrun: these games are synonymous with quality and class with that certain something only Sega could muster in the '90s, and yet here we stand in a COVID cloaked version of 2020 with a game as striking and endearing as you like, with visuals you can't help but gawp at and multiplayer playability that has through the roof levels of enjoyment. Hotshot racing does a solid job of replicating the arcade vibe, but fails to impart its own identity to really excel.

With its low-poly look coming straight out of classic Sega arcade titles like Daytona Racing we have Hotshot Racing, and while it may not have incredible depth or nuance damn if it isn’t a whole lotta fun...

If, like me, you’ve been waiting what feels like forever for a new Ridge Racer game to be announced, I really do recommend that you give Hotshot Racing a go.

Hotshot Racing is a brilliant arcade-style racer that feels satisfyingly old-school with its visuals, its impressive track design, and its action-packed racing. I’ve had a LOT of fun blasting through GPs across its creative variety of tracks, whilst the different game modes bring a fair bit of variety to the gameplay experience. It’s wholly accessible thanks to its simple control scheme too, though still offers enough challenge to make it ‘easy to play but difficult to master’ – just don’t be surprised if you get a little bit frustrated at the occasional case of rubber-banding throughout some races. I do wish that it could have offered a bit more single player content to get through, but with both local and online multiplayer on offer it’ll be easy to lose hours on end with Hotshot Racing’s fiendishly frantic but ultimately delightful racing action.

Fans of classic arcade racers from the 90s will feel right at home with Hotshot Racing. Lucky Mountain have clearly demonstrated an understanding of what made those games so great while adding just enough modern modes and systems to allow for both better re-playability and player engagement.

Hotshot Racing does very well with its proposed role: to be a fun arcade game inspired by the 32-bit era. This is a beautiful example of a perfect choice for those weekend afternoons to play on the couch with friends, as it was in the old days.

Hotshot Racing is a nice throwback to the heyday of stimulating and cheerful arcade racers of the early 90’s. It’s as challenging as your average Ridge Racer or Virtua Racing, but sadly, nowhere near as charming.

Hotshot Racing is pure fun, and that's something I can always get behind. It's good fun for all ages, but I suspect the older generation will look on Hotshot Racing with a little more love in their eyes than the clueless kids of today.

An enjoyable and detailed racer successfully invokes the spirit of the 90s arcade, even if it doesn't quite have a spark of its own.
