Like a lot of other releases in the Devolver line up, Disc Room is a wonderfully unique release that stands out well on the eShop. That premise of "a shoot 'em up without the shooting" seems silly at first, but very quickly shows itself to be an interesting idea that's taken in plenty of fun directions. Disc Room is tough as nails in all the right ways, and this combined with plenty of secrets, solid accessibility options, and an intriguing premise makes for an experience we can easily recommend. Don't pass this one up, it's definitely worth your time.

Disc Room is a great example of a little indie game doing a damn fine job. From a small idea of bullet hell meets dungeon crawler, the developers have polished the concept up quite nicely. The variety of design ensure that each room feels unique. The innate difficulty of the game provides a satisfying challenge although it can also lead to some frustration. But thankfully the difficulty settings here are highly customisable and allow for great accessibility. Sure there are some confusing rooms, but they’re balanced out by amazing boss fights that left me wanting more. Overall, whilst there are some missteps, it’s definitely one game that’s well worth a try.

Disc Room may run out of the fresh ideas in a little while, but those few hours are distinguished adventure.

You’ll play for the addicting bullet hell action but stay for complexities beneath its surface. Just don’t pull your hair out along the way.

Disc Room is short and sweet, with an interesting aesthetic and some intriguing character building. Unfortunately the latter is hidden in menus, so there’s a chance not all players will get to see what is, in my opinion, one of the best parts of the game.

With inventive objectives, Disc Room is a game recommended for everyone, but mainly for those looking for a frantic challenge. Just as everything in it is designed to kill us, everything also looks exquisite: the stages are interesting, the puzzles are creative and the enemies are very sharp (in both directions). However, there are noticeable performance problems during the short journey. That way, possible bug fixes, as well as those made by the team of scientists in Jupiter's orbit in 2089, would certainly make the great title even better.

Disc Room requires the players to focus every second of the gameplay. Sometimes you’d even think that the developers want you to suffer and feel pain as if they are enjoying torturing the players because of their lack of skills. But there are still parts where they considered the wide range of players who would try an easier difficulty or apply less violent visuals. Even if you’re not a fan of the bullet-hell genre, give this game a go to. There aren’t much games out there that openly show ‘consideration’ for their players.

Disc Room is a straightforward arcade game that is fun to sink a few hours in as you reach a heightened sense of being. Weaving in and out of blades that are inches from you and pulling off some split-second dodges is panic-inducing but also pretty rewarding to your gaming ego. Even with a repetitive gameloop and some not-so-useful abilities, I had a great time maneuvering through this daring adventure while solving puzzles and facing death head-on.

As a self-avowed lover of the classic days of arcade games a title like Disc Room makes almost perfect sense to me, though I’ll admit not everyone may be as eager to latch on to its unusual concept...

Being a game that will no doubt test your reflexes and tenacity, Disc Room will make the number of deaths you have in a Dark Souls game look miniscule in comparison.

Even though Disc Room is a fun game, its design suffers from difficulty that ultimately relies on randomness more than anything else.

Disc Room might look like a simple game, but there’s some serious depth with its mechanics and old-school style challenge. The addition of accessibility options goes a long way to making it playable everyone, not just those that revel in the challenge

To put it bluntly: Disc Room is addicting and full of polish where it matters. Everything else is just serviceable and something you probably won't notice. I mean after all it is Pacifist Smash TV and who would turn that down?

The game is also, yes, small in stature, it is one-note, it can be enjoyed in one sitting until you reach the crest of conditioning and competence, if not completion. It is single-minded to the point of being playable with precisely one digit. You might play it for a single day, as I did, have a wonderful time covering yourself with blood, and be satisfied to never touch it again. But if these are flaws they are also proof of focus and refinement. Disc Room might be readily slept on, but if you are the kind of tough game obsessive, a connoisseur of arcade death, or a bullet hellion who cannot resist the call to mastery, these rooms should be approached wakeful and willing and ready to die.
