Bravely Default II is a fairytale RPG that has nothing to envy from the classic SNES Final Fantasy.

Bravely Default II is one of the best RPGs available on the Switch, featuring a combination of engaging and well-conducted narrative with solid gameplay full of interesting mechanics. The experience is even superior to its predecessors, which were already high-quality works of the genre. Both those who took advantage of Bravely Default and Bravely Second and players who did not venture into the Luxendarc journey should give this masterpiece a chance.

As its predecessors Bravely Default 2 scores with its unique and complex round based fighting system and an inviting atmosphere. But beside other minor strengths, the game suffers from its strong grinding constraints and its disbalance by constantly toggling between too easy removeable and overwhelming enemies.

Bravely Default II doesn’t shake up the formula much but the things it does shakeup, are better off for it. This is a modern take on classic Final Fantasy with a twist. The game is punishing, but also it's comfort food for fans of JRPGs but it also takes a few steps back from the previous games, it’s still fun to play but it's more tedious now, too.

Bravely Default II excels in bringing back classic JRPGs with superb turnbased gameplay, unfortunately it also revives a cliched story about crystals and steep difficulty spikes, which make "grinding" an unavoidable feature of the game.

With an undeniably charming visual, a captivating story and complex gameplay, Bravely Default II is a great JRPG. Despite a few slowdowns, BD2 should satisfy veterans of the genre with its great soundtrack and high level of difficulty. It might not be a game for newcomers, but Claytechworks managed to bring the franchise to the next level without forgetting the essence of what made it great.

Bravely Default II is not a redefiner of the JRPG genre, and it might not stand out in the packed sea of more notable tiles available. However, not every new game has to be a genre definer to be entertaining. This adventure wears its tropes and cliches on its sleeve, but it isn’t ashamed of them. It basks in the roots it hearkens back to, to the point where playing it feels like stepping into a time machine leading to times of old with needed, welcome, modern sensibilities.

If you are one of those RPG enthusiasts who want another improved version of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy Tactics' Job system to mess around with in 2021, right down to its archaic trappings, Bravely Default 2's got you sorted.

It is fortunate for Bravely Default II, that the strength of its combat and world designs outweigh its odd design choices and uninspired writing, if only barely. It is enough to keep the experience enjoyable, but it is unlikely that it is one that will stick with you for very long.

I want to be blunt with you, if you are not conditioned to what we old-timers call “The Grind” then Bravely Default 2 might not be for you. In between chapters, you will NEED to go off the beaten path in search of treasures and enemies to fight if you want to have any chance in hell beating the bosses at the end of every dungeon.

Bravely Default II’s epic adventure will keep you glued to your Nintendo Switch thanks to its satisfyingly strategic combat, its beautiful world, and its deep job system. There’s simply so much to invest yourself in within the land of Excillant, and honestly, it was a joy from start to end. Sure, it does have some frustrating moments here and there (especially with the unpredictability of some boss encounters) and the narrative can be guilty of overusing typical RPG tropes in places, but there’s more than enough enjoyment in every other element of the game to make that easy to look past. Bravely Default II is simply another brilliant RPG to add to the Nintendo Switch’s ever-growing collection.

In the end, Bravely Default II is a worthy successor to the franchise. Despite some performance problems and interesting voice direction, this is still a fantastic experience. With a new story, cast of characters, and gameplay elements, it delivers a sense of familiarity as well as a fresh perspective. The story builds up over the course of the game and provides plenty of hours of fun for JRPG fans.

Overall, I’m still pretty happy with Bravely Default II. I’ve been waiting for this game for a while now, and I’d say it mostly lived up to my expectations. There’s everything I love about the series here, from the characters to the challenging bosses to the well-organized systems. Sure, it’s mostly a linear experience, but there’s enough variety and sidequests to keep things fresh. And like any good Bravely Default game, there’s a handful of big twists to shock and amaze you.

Bravely Default 2 still winds up my favorite game in the Bravely series largely due to the improvements in writing, and I’d recommend it to nearly any JRPG fan, but the series hasn’t managed to quite hit every note yet.

Bravely Default II learned from the mistakes of the previous titles in the series on 3DS, offering a richer and more traditional experience than that of its predecessors. This, in a way, ends up also being his Achilles' heel. Both his gameplay and narrative hardly innovate, compared to what so many other games of the genre have already accustomed us to. Still, Bravely Default II is undoubtedly a competent addition to Nintendo Switch's growing solid collection of JRPG’s, which should not pass up with lovers of this genre.
