King of Seas is a game that knows how to be entertaining right from the start, and that will put your pirate skills to the test. Something more could have been done with regards to dialogues and soundtrack, but these flaws do not hamper the enjoyability of King of Seas, which also offers a good amount of replayability.

It may not be everyone's flagon of grog but I had an excellent time with King of Seas and will continue to until I dominate the high seas.

King of Seas is a delightfully chill and humorous title that’s best experienced on a Sunday afternoon as you wish you were a swashbuckling pirate taking down warships with enormous cannons. Whilst the combat can be fiddly and the procedural nature may play with your sense of direction somewhat, there’s plenty to enjoy in this light-hearted sea tale.

Even with a theme that has been extensively explored culturally, King of Seas is proof that pirate journeys can still bear good fruit in video games. The title delights with its intense battles and detailed RPG progression, which offers a vast leveling system and upgrades. Thus, the adventure is robust and immersive, with an ocean of things to do in the best explorer-style pirate of the Seven Seas.

Who wouldn’t want to be a pirate? Sailing the seven seas, swashbuckling your way across the open waters. Sinking ships, plundering treasure, and trading stolen goods at various pirate friendly ports.

Whenever you embark on a journey while raising your Jolly Roger on the high seas, pretty well everyone out there is going to evaluate the experience against the genre-defining Sid Meier’s Pirates...

Fun, cartoonish pirating, which makes you feel cheeky rather than evil.

King of Seas is a satisfying pirate role-playing game, that while not too original, still manages to offer us a fun, unique and recognizable mix, especially thanks to its combat system finding the right middle ground between immediacy and depth.

But ultimately, King of Seas succeeds in most of its goals. It offers an enjoyable top-down pirate ship experience, with an engaging battle system, pleasant worlds, an interesting RPG skilltree and a pleasant story. On paper, it doesn’t do anything innovative or new, and yet the end result is an original and fun experience with a clear identity, one that we hope the developers can expand upon with updates or a sequel.

A fresh and entertaining pirate-ish action RPG with nice customization and spectacular naval combat. Too bad that the lack of variety of side quests and other scattered flaws end up to row against.

Although it has its shortcomings, in general, King of Seas manages to provide a nice experience that can keep you hooked to the screen for a long time. It's not the pinnacle of pirate games, but considering that it doesn't have many rivals in this genre, I'd say give it a shot if you're curious.

At a cheap price tag, King of Seas can offer tons of content to players. Its frustrating combat makes for a difficult experience at times, but players who can sail past that will find have a great time exploring and trading.

King of Seas more than earns its keep given its price-point (it comes in at a very respectable $25 USD on the Xbox/Microsoft store) as it is an enjoyable, casual gaming experience with combat that is easy to grasp, isn’t tedious, and has numerous diversions, from trading to resource gathering and exploration. Even with the minimal issues that I personally had with some of the design choices, King of Seas is still a wonderful and worthy title in the ever-growing pantheon of indie games that are sweeping the market in lieu of standout AAA-titles.

‎King of Seas is an interesting proposition. Mixing the idea of an overhead view ARPG in true devil style mixed with pirate ships, cannons and a procedural world sounds good. But the execution is half-ted, or at least that's the feeling that leaves us at the controls. ‎

Think of King of Seas as yet another spiritual successor to Sid Meier's Pirates! It has all the tools needed to keep you entertained for many hours. Unfortunately, it's also lacking in certain departments, leading to a more streamlined approach that can't compare to the classic.

It has its limits, it does not have huge ambitions, and here and there it brings out ideas that are not bad, especially in combat. And, for the body of a thousand whales, it works. It's very repetitive, but it works. It doesn't extol, but it works.

While King of Seas is a slow-burning pirate adventure with some finicky combat, it ultimately makes for a fine journey across the Seven Seas.

Although it doesn’t reach levels of Sid Meier’s beloved game, the developers have managed to make an oceanic warfare focused pirate game with a little mercantile adventures on the side. All in all King of Seas comes out as a fun if a little repetitive naval combat game.

Despite some ebb tide in the form of questionable mechanics, King of Seas is a thoroughly enjoyable game. A ton of replayability and very free gameplay make this game enjoyable to binge or in bite-sized sessions alike. If you are looking for a no-frills experience that you can enjoy in your very own way, King of Seas is the game for you.

If you can get sufficiently sucked into the gameplay, every other problem seems insignificant. On the other hand, if any part of the moment-to-moment experience starts to drag, it can pull you right out of the game. In other words, if all you want to do is sail around starting fights, slowly gathering power until you become a force of nature on the waves, King of Seas is perfect for you. Conversely, if you’re looking for something more multifaceted and less focused, you may want to steer clear. I thought sailing and sea battles would sustain me. Perhaps there’s more to being a pirate after all.
