Mighty Goose is the most fun I've had all year. It’s loud, it’s explosive, and it’s 100% awesome. The game doesn’t take that long to ‘beat’, but comes with a fantastic NG+ mode that dials that 11 all the way to 12. What few niggling issues I have with the game pale in comparison with the fun that I had with it. It’s a blast on your tod, or with a mate, so there is no excuse not to get honking.

Blastmode explode onto the scene with this run and gun title inspired by the acclaimed Metal Slug series. This Patreon backed project like its titular protagonist has teeth, showcasing incredible gameplay, insane bosses and a head banging soundtrack to boot. There is more to the goose than meets the eye.

There are times you can barely pay attention to what’s happening onscreen, with bullets and enemies flying around at a million trillion frames per second. And this is why I liked it so much. It’s fast-paced, it’s energetic, it’s incredibly challenging at points, and most importantly, it’s fun as heck. Step aside, Untitled Goose Game, we have a new waterfowl king in town.

Mighty Goose is a guns-blazing run-and-gunner that wears its Metal Slug inspiration on its sleeve. With hectic combat and a colorful design, it’s a fun action experience that knows how to use its comedy vein well. If you’ve ever felt the need to play as a powerful space goose, your prayers have been answered.

Both appealing to newcomers and veterans, Mighty Goose might be one of the best homages to Metal Slug whilst doing its own thing. It does fall short in some aspects, such as limited routes and not enough enemy variety, but it makes up with a lot of humor and upgrades.

Like a plump pixel-art phoenix rising from the ashes of modern Battle Royales, Mighty Goose offers an incredible throwback experience where the gameplay is an absolute blast – in every sense of the word. With a loveable honking hero, chaotic but never frustrating gameplay, and artwork and sound that offer flawless examples of the genre, Mighty Goose is the dictionary definition of a good time.

Mighty Goose is a great reminder that video games need not take themselves too seriously to be fun.

‎Mighty Goose surprises by being a new and fresh production of a genre that was very popular for some years and that it seems that little by little is winning the heart of a new generation and drawing nostalgic sighs to those of us who already comb gray hair. The title of Blastmode and MP2 Games is one of the best indie productions I've tried this year and I'm sure if you're a fan of Metal Slug, you're going to love this game from the get-go. I really recommend it absolutely.

What it lacks in length and innovation, it makes up for with - Hey?! What are you doing to my keyboard, you stupiHONKHONKHONKHONKHONKHONK.

There really wasn't a dull moment in this game with each adrenaline-packed level sending chills down my spine. There may prove to be a little too much chaos at times making it hard to ascertain what's actually happening but that's an oversight. My main issue is the length of the game which was bittersweet but left me wanting more. Mighty Goose's punchy pixel visuals matched with its marvellous action makes it one of the best indie games out at the moment.

The problem is that the developers do not push the limits of the space they settled in. The companions and the special powers are attempts at this but limited ones. After three or four levels even the idea of battling new bosses failed to excite me about the game. Mighty Goose is another title that needs more than very good execution of core concepts to stand out.

Mighty Goose won't push players to their limit the way Blazing Chrome does, but it is satisfying to play, thanks to all the mayhem and destruction to be had. The impressive sprite art and animation go a long way at elevating the experience from being just another run and gun action title. There aren't many like this that have so much pandemonium on screen. The harder, unlockable mode definitely seems like it would have been the standard difficulty if this had come out in the era that inspired it, and it feels like the intended way to play. For some reason, causing havoc as a goose is one of those things that makes a lot of sense in a video game.

Playing Mighty Goose made me reminisce about Metal Slug and it's fittingly just as fun with its humorous action-packed campaign.

I truly enjoyed this opportunity to review Mighty Goose. Though the game veered just shy of perfection, it’s still a very worthy and enjoyable action platformer. I spent a handful of hours beating the game, and even then, I have a few extra things I want to unlock. While I do think it would have benefitted from minor improvements and wish it had some additional modes to keep me playing, it’s still a ton of fun. This is the perfect start to the Summer gaming season. Now I’ll just wait with bated breath for Blastmode to announce they’re working on an even bigger sequel!

Mighty Goose invests in the rescue of a style of game that was very successful in the 16-bit era. The title does what it proposes with excellence, hitting the nostalgia factor squarely but bringing elements that can help new players. It's not really a game that will generate interest for a long time, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. After all, being a goose that loves action, even for a short time, is an attraction in itself.

Mighty Goose is a fantastic run and gun shooter, with tight controls, a variety of guns, and secondary abilities. It features some excellent pixel-art, with a fairly memorable soundtrack, and doesn’t overstay its welcome. However, it’s brought down by a lack of enemy variety, and uninspired level design. Highly recommended for fans of the Metal Slug series, and classic 2D shooters.

Mighty Goose is a fun and short experience that will keep you busy for a couple hours but not overstay its welcome. With several stages, boss fights, abilities and new content having recently been added for free which could easily have been at a premium price, it’s worth checking out on the PC, consoles and the Xbox GamePass.
