If you put it next to pretty much any other open world superhero game released over the past decade, sure, it will stand out like a sore thumb. When you put its target demographic into perspective, however, you’ll realize this is a competent title that will appease to fans of the show and younger kids/preteens, especially preteen girls. It has charm, a ton of content, and beyond its layers of jank and simplicity, it’s quite fun at times.

It really took a bit of time for me to like DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power. But now I do and don't only feel like a super hero but also like a detective who has a whole city to explore.

And, while it isn’t perfect, DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power on the Switch and its attempt to try and include elements from games from older audience shows an admirable amount of ambition.

DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power is, above all, a by-product of the cartoon that bears the same name. If you or your child are super fans of the original material, it's not hard to really appreciate what's been done here. If that's not the case, there's no good reason for you to go out of your way and play the game, but playing it wouldn't be that bad either. Although the story is simple and the combat a bit truncated, the city's open-world exploration and the amount of additional content surprise and entertain enough. In general, the title ends midway, however, for a licensed game without many expectations, the result tends to be positive.

Overall, DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power is a power trip through the everyday lives of three of Dark Comics’ most beloved female leads. Unfortunately, the rest of the cast does not become playable at any point – understandably so. The game is surprisingly faithful to its source material, which is [and it must be stressed] a whacky and warped television show based on the comics. The show, while not to everyones taste, does have a lot of heart, and so does the game. It is just an extreme shame how the game has no clear target audience: it looks and feels like a children’s game with strong messaging about obsession and social media. At the same time, however, it is a surprisingly deep arcade brawler, complete with customisation and extra game modes that tie back into the main experience. DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power serves as a neat escape into the world of the television show, but ultimately fails to wow thanks to an obvious conflict around who the game’s target audience is supposed to be.

Despite some quality of life issues, this is a great introduction to the action/adventure genre for its target audience.

My concerns with DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power sit with it as a property. I know this is a wildly controversial thing to say, but I don't really believe that Marvel and DC are appropriate for children. If the hundreds of implied and explicit deaths per movie or show weren't enough to convince you of that, then the inherent moral lessons from these properties should because there's a lot more there to digest, interpret and come to terms with than people generally think about. Making all that baggage cute, as DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power does, might make it palatable to a young audience, but it still needs to be questioned.

DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power may expand the experience of young DC sympathizers, but even they will at some point want more. With good promotion – definitely yes. Although remember that this is not arkham knight for the younger ones.

Ultimately DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power does exactly what it has set out to do, which is to create a fun, enjoyable experience for younger players. What is really surprising, however, is that adult players can also find so much enjoyment. All the basics are there, and are done to a good enough standard that if a DC fan, there are enough little nods and references to hold interest. If your children are just getting accustomed to the comic book/gaming genre, and as a parent struggle to find a suitable entrance point, this is the perfect start.

While much of the humor is skin-crawlingly embarrassing, once in a while there is a gag that might get a chuckle out of the most cynical of gamers. DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power is a fine game for kids, or weirdos who are into ponies. Everyone else might find it a curious feel-good game where the action is mild, and the dopamine satisfaction for seeking collectibles.

Delve into the world of Gotham and Metropolis with this wonderful adaptation of DC's Super Hero Girls. Learn the abilities of BatGirl, SuperGirl and Wonder Woman and take them to battle in a series of quests. But how is this game fun for everyone?

Impressively, this superhero action game isn’t just a cash-grab, shovelware release for kids. Batgirl, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, and friends are charming representations of their cartoon and comic-book counterparts with heaps of flair. The slice of life elements are decent, with humorous stories and meaningful drama peppered throughout, but not without superficial parts.

DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power could have easily been a disaster; a cheap cash-in with little or no merit. Thankfully, it's actually a surprisingly comprehensive and satisfying experience that fans of the show will absolutely love. There are plenty of characters to interact with, an excellent shopping feature, and lots of fun little tasks to keep you occupied. Don't get us wrong, the game knows its target audience and caters to that younger demographic, so older gamers may not gel with the overall tone and simplistic gameplay. However, kids who might not yet be ready for the 'grimdark' ("MARTHA!") DCEU, this might be the perfect alternative.

Just like a super fashioned outfit, DC Super Hero Girls : Teen Power looks nice and feels good at first, but proves superficial, if not caricatural once the supernatural effects disappear to reveal true weaknesses, particularly a lack of depth and character in every sense of the word.

DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power succeeds in not feeling like a simple cash-grab. Much like its source material, it has genuine heart, plenty of activities to take part in, and a cast of characters who are simply adorable. Some of its more social open-world gameplay may feel a touch slapdash, but its colourful and explosive action more than makes up for it by being a blast of addictive and easy-to-grasp fun.

DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power is not a complex game, nor one that manages to stand out in today's market. However, it is an adventure that all children can enjoy, and it is a good introduction to some concepts of the industry.

Overall, DC Super Hero Girls is a very solid kids game. Nothing is new or revolutionary, but the game feels incredibly well put together. The story is enjoyable, the voice acting is exceptional, and the world feels fleshed out. With so many recognizable heroes and villains in a high school setting, it's hard not to enjoy some time with this happy slice of the DC Universe.

DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power successfully translates the beloved animated TV show into the video game space. While the game might feel a bit fluffy for adults, playing with kids is a blast. With reasonably well-done combat and a ton of side activities, Teen Power is a meatier (and more fun) experience than one might assume-an absolute win for a licensed game.

While I have strong criticisms of DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power, it is fun to play as these iconic characters on the streets and in battle, clunky as they may be. The locations and dress-up options are colorful and interesting. Fans of the TV show will definitely like wielding Wonder Woman’s sword and shield, Catwoman’s whip, and Batgirl’s gadgets!
