Although some specialists can feel a bit useless at times, tweaks to the formula with Battlefield 2042 add a lot of interesting gameplay variety.

Though that's an exaggeration (if a slight one), allowing you to kit out any character you want with whatever equipment naturally tilts combat from decisive to unwieldy. Players can access whatever tools necessary for self-sufficiency or going off solo, guns blazing. Don't expect to get many revives from your teammates even when medics are around. Meanwhile, this half-exploit system exposes several character gimmicks as same-y, underwhelming, or borderline useless-this is absolutely a game that plays favorites. Combined with the level design, it becomes painfully clear how disorganized and thoughtless the bulk of 2042's systems really are.

Right now, Battlefield 2042 is offering plenty of new features and gameplay elements that will benefit the series’ veteran players, although I’m not sure if there is enough there to hold the attention of players that don’t already have a vested interest in it, at least while they wait for the various problems to be fixed. That really is a shame because even though the persistent issues are frustrating, unnecessary, and annoying, underneath it all is a game that is brimming with potential, and one that I’m enjoying much of my time with — combat is tense, challenging, and unpredictable, and it offers the very best Battlefield experience in recent years... when it hits right.

Battlefield 2042 is a fun enough time, but DICE needs to work hard if it wants to take the unrefined ideas found here and turn it into something that feels like a worthy successor to the Battlefield legacy.

Future of the Battlefield series looks bad, very bad. Battlefield 2042 is bunch of messy game modes and only Portal is something unique.

Battlefield 2042 is currently at best a small, unhealthy snack for on the go, which you absolutely had to buy, but always in the knowledge that it never really takes place nor tastes particularly good. The three big game modes offer a colorful potpourri with something for every type of player, but none of the concepts is really mature. Long-term motivation is lacking shortly after release: The lack of a checkout system seems immature in places, numerous bugs slow down the flow of the game, and missing scoreboards and ranked matches take even more tension out of the gameplay loop. Battlefield 2042 is so trimmed for entertaining fun that it completely loses sight of its possibilities. The focus is clearly on more chaos and less game depth, more trends and less team play, new superlatives but unfortunately less Battlefield. Battlefield 2042 is quick fun for a round in between, but will have a hard time holding its own on the highly competitive shooter market.

Battlefield 2042 is a game with some seriously lofty ambitions, because destruction and warfare on a scale we've never seen before is always going to grab the headlines. Unfortunately, more effort has gone into those jaw-dropping moments, like seeing huge buildings topple to the ground, than it has into making the game fun and balanced. There's a solid foundation here, but this entry needed a lot longer in the oven to iron out the main modes and provide some more variety into Hazard Zone, because the result is a real low point in the franchise.

Battlefield 2042 mixes muddy combat, poor performance, and bind-boggling design choices for one of the series' most underbaked offerings yet.

Battlefield 2042 is huge. In his best moments huge fun, but just as often hugely frustrating, stressful and difficult to understand. All controls are at max in this game, which is a clear starting point from the previous games in the series. Whether you will like it or not is impossible to answer.

Battlefield 2042 has the potential to be a fantastic Battlefield game, but its server problems really put a damper on it. At this point, wait for a couple more patches before checking it out.

Lots of things in Battlefield 2042 does not work the way it's supposed to. There's a lot of issues, and that's to be expected, unfortunately. Still, the foundations are solid, and if everything worked well, the final grade would be higher. After a few months of fixes, the game will work better. However, even now, I'm having tons of fun.

Disjointed mess of a game „Battlefield 2042” is a latest entry in a franchise known for it’s crucial paradox: massive scale gels with tight, well-paced battle encounters. Except it doesn’t gel this time around. It’s more like Werner Herzog movie: you trek tirelessly through the mountains, forests and rivers and then get shot in the head by some chilled out dude with a sniper rifle. As Herzog would put it: „This universe is monstrously indifferent to the presence of man”.

Overall, a decent shooter that feels a little too overblown for its own good. It’s best elements lie in the past but there’s plenty here to get your teeth into and potentially dozens of hours of multiplayer fun for the winter months.

It’s clear that DICE have some work to do, but this is an incredibly ambitious and auspicious game. The specialists are my least favorite part of the game, especially with their end-of-round quips, but hopefully they’ll find their place in time. Battlefield 2042 delivers on the core gameplay, and the promise of 128-player combat zones in All-Out Warfare. Hazard Zone is off to a favorable and suspenseful start, but it needs more to draw me back regularly. And with Portal, the most memorable mode, Battlefield 2042 protects its future by preserving its past. This is a triple threat offering of multiplayer mastery DICE is known for, and Battlefield 2042 is only getting started.

In its current state, Battlefield 2042 is not worth your money but there is hope that later in 2022, this can become a shooter that fans of the series were hoping for.

Battlefield 2042 immediately shows enormous potential, fueled by a playful set-up that hosts modes of great depth and really promising innovations. Unfortunately, DICE's latest work is also one of the most disorganized chapters of the series, as spectacular as it is littered with imbalances and lightness, which affect the choral rendering of an offer that still fails to give the best of itself.

Battlefield 2042 is a pretty huge disappointment. And it's hard to think if there's was a way to make things even worse. It would be great if instead of this game EA would just make a full re-release of Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3 - the consoles userbase would surely appreciatethe the move.

I wouldn’t say that Battlefield 2042 is the worst iteration in this series because it does add some new gameplay and brings back elements like complete loadout customization from previous iterations. But as of right now, a lot of the gameplay is skewed, and the weapons, attachments, and vehicles don’t really feel like they work as they should. As a triple-A game, I expect better.

A product that incorporates fun and new ideas, but lack of proper use of the potentials of these ideas, has made Bethelfield 2042 unable to be as it should be and perhaps a fun product for newcomers as well as old users.
