We loved Battlefield because it wasn’t Call of Duty or Counter-Strike or Fortnite or Apex or any other popular shooter. This mismanaged project clearly needed more time in the oven and a cohesive design that works to Battlefield’s strengths rather than a game attempting to be multiple things to multiple audiences. In a year where so many releases have been marred by a lack of polish and bugs, Battlefield 2042 may be the biggest offender.

Battlefield 2042 does not yet live up to its ambitious design goals and is a regression in many respects.

An FPS package that has its fun moments, but one that's blighted by performance issues. Portal holds great potential and may be the only mode that stands the true test of time.

Battlefield 2042 follows a different path. Instead of evolving the traditional and beloved recipe of the series, this time it borrows elements from other franchises, such as Call of Duty and Rainbow Six Siege. Many players will like the result and others will surely be left disappointed. The only certain thing is that the title needed more development time for any of its virtues to shine, as there are important technical issues, problems with the overall balance and some strange design flaws that DICE will definitely have to fix in future updates.

Battlefield 2042 wants so many things that it succeeds at almost none of them. There's a good game buried beneath it all, but you'll wade through a lot of sludge to get there.

‎Although the game at the controls works very well and I am sure that lovers of the saga will love it, the enormous lack of content with which the launch game has arrived cannot be overlooked, something that is more bloody if we consider that the campaign mode was abandoned to make the multiplayer a better and more complete experience. In addition, other patchable elements such as a respawn that does not work as it should or the excessive ease of ordering vehicles make it tedious and desperate at times, especially for new players. For all this I have nothing left but to recommend right now this Battlefield 2042 only for the most diehard fans of the saga, and wait to see how the game evolves in the coming months.‎

Battlefield 2042 is an ambitious shooter that features the excellent Portal mode-creation tool, as well as a few, cool game types. Unfortunately, technical issues and balance problems mean that you may want to hold off buying the game until EA Dice irons out the kinks.

I don't think there's a situation so bleak they wouldn't try to render in service of people-pleasing and making sales climb higher. Battlefield 2042 represents the pinnacle of a feedback loop that told its creators that bigger is always better. Now that we're here, I'm sure we were never right to think that and I don't think we're stepping back from it anytime soon.

If you're looking to enjoy the next Battlefield title, turn back now. With the next patch not slated to arrive for another month, and the next content update to release some time after that, it's going to be a while before 2042 can earn the right to be called a true Battlefield game. It's best to wait until the smoke clears and DICE fixes any major bugs (maybe even wait for it to go on discount) before spending $70 on this game.

While not all of the features Battlefield 2042 introduces are a hit, and the lack of a single-player component is a little disappointing, the game still manages to deliver the same spectacular skirmishes fans of the series crave with its explosive 128-player conflicts and satisfying selection of near-future weaponry and gadgets. Add to that the impressive Portal Mode, which has the potential to keep a steady stream of community-created content flowing, and Battlefield 2042 could very well keep your itchy trigger finger soothed for the foreseeable future. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the franchise looking to dominate the leaderboards or a greenhorn ready for your first tour of duty, Battlefield 2042 delivers something worth fighting for.

Battlefield 2042 is a solid shooter that sadly suffers from a lot of technical problems, including bugs, glitches and a lot of visual inconsistencies. It's a game that has a lot of potential and offers a fun & team-oriented experience, but at the same time it lacks some key futures that, for no apparent reason, just don't exist. It's a hard game to recommend at the moment, but hopefully it will get better with time.

EA tried to rush the release out the door, expecting it to compete with Vanguard and Halo Infinite, but lost. Some questionable innovations and bugs prevent the game from being the Battlefield people wanted all these years.

Battlefield 2042 makes gutsy changes to a series that needed them and sets a new standard for built-in custom mode support.

A product that incorporates fun and new ideas, but lack of proper use of the potentials of these ideas, has made Bethelfield 2042 unable to be as it should be and perhaps a fun product for newcomers as well as old users.

I wouldn’t say that Battlefield 2042 is the worst iteration in this series because it does add some new gameplay and brings back elements like complete loadout customization from previous iterations. But as of right now, a lot of the gameplay is skewed, and the weapons, attachments, and vehicles don’t really feel like they work as they should. As a triple-A game, I expect better.

Battlefield 2042 is a pretty huge disappointment. And it's hard to think if there's was a way to make things even worse. It would be great if instead of this game EA would just make a full re-release of Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3 - the consoles userbase would surely appreciatethe the move.

Battlefield 2042 immediately shows enormous potential, fueled by a playful set-up that hosts modes of great depth and really promising innovations. Unfortunately, DICE's latest work is also one of the most disorganized chapters of the series, as spectacular as it is littered with imbalances and lightness, which affect the choral rendering of an offer that still fails to give the best of itself.
