Overall, Diablo II: Resurrected is an impressive facelift of the original games with some fantastic quality-of-life improvements added in. The remastered solo play is quite impressive on the Switch, even given the existing hardware limitations. Unfortunately, the current issues with matchmaking, community size, and servers on the Switch are a huge blemish on the experience due to the grinding nature of solo play, but those can be resolved in time and earn higher marks as a result. The game can still provide one hell of an experience for those who prefer solo action or for folks using it for cross-platform progression while traveling. Purge this land of shadow, and may the light guide your way.

There’s still a little bit of magic left in the Diablo 2 bottle to make Resurrected a worthwhile adventure, even for players who have been consistently going through the original game every so often with friends or by themselves. Resurrected gives a good amount of life to a game many may have only heard about but never went out of their way to try.

If you don't run afoul of the game's technical and server-related issues, you'll find Diablo II: Resurrected to be a good version of the classic action RPG. For those who have played with the 2000 PC classic countless times, this is a like-for-like copy of that title, only with a few more accessibility options and a new lick of paint so it blends in with modern releases. For those who are new to the game or are more familiar with Diablo III, keyboard and mouse players will feel limited, while the lack of modern quality-of-life amenities can dampen the excitement for the title. Either way, once everything clears up, Diablo II can become a great addition to any ARPG library, and if you're one who pays attention to the review score, you can bump up the number when the fixes roll in.

If you feel nostalgic for Diablo II: Resurrected is the best way to scratch that itch. If you felt that it was overhyped back then, the new release will do nothing to change your mind. And if you are new to videogames, you better start with Diablo III, since you will not miss anything story wise, and the experience will be much more satisfying.

Diablo II: Resurrected gets enough polish and features to appeal to fans of the original release and to series newcomers. The exploration/combat loop is still fully engaging, with only a few remnants of its age interfering with gameplay on the Switch.

Diablo 2 Resurrected is a beautiful journey down memory lane. It's a game that brings out memories and joy and, sometimes, rage (it can be brutally unforgiving). This new-old Diablo 2 took us home for a while. A sweet illusion, but its longevity depends on the work the developers still have to do.

Diablo II: Resurrected is a great port plagued by the usual server issues. When those stop - or if you can work around them - D2:R is a great port that polishes up a cult classic without losing its original charm and gameplay loop. The improved visuals run well on the Switch, and the quality-of-life improvements and good controller implementation ensure that D2 is a joy to experience on the handheld. Of course, there are some noticeable downgrades, but none of them impede the experience, and they're necessary to ensure the game runs smoothly and without hitches. If you favor portability over quality, the Switch version of D2:R is worth picking up.

In a nutshell, I enjoyed what I played of Diablo II Resurrected so far and it’s a worthy remaster/update to the original classic. As previously said, if you are a big fan of the original game then you will absolutely fall in love with this. If you are looking to get into the Diablo franchise for the first time and are used to more modern-day RPG mechanics and combat then you are better off playing Diablo III: Reaper of Souls.

Diablo 2: Resurrected proves that you can’t really improve upon perfection, but you can make it look really pretty. Despite some combat that hasn’t aged quite so well, the overall experience is well worth a step back in time for the atmosphere and unparalleled freedom it provides.

Diablo II remains a legendary video game for a reason, and Resurrected, minus its server and general Internet issues, manages to improve on the formula while adding some worthwhile cosmetic changes that ushers in new fans and laying out the welcome wagon for fans of the series that are looking to revisit the dark franchise.

Diablo 2: Resurrected is the perfect trip down memory lane for those looking to revisit the original experience, or for anyone who felt Diablo 3 was a little on the easy side. Thanks to the graphics overhaul, this title has been fully modernised 21 years on from the original, so it's also much more accessible for newcomers to the franchise. The lack of a ladder system at launch is certainly an odd choice but one that will inevitably be rectified soon enough. Diablo 2 Resurrected doesn't quite fill the aching hole in our hearts for Diablo 4, but it does help tide us over for the time being.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Diablo II Resurrected is essentially the same game but with minimal gameplay changes such as the shared stash and auto-loot. The addition of the Lord of Destruction expansion is also quite welcome. The graphical overhaul it has been given is phenomenal. I think once the connectivity issues are sorted out then it will be the complete package and players will not be disappointed. This will definitely scratch the itch of fans until the next instalment. I give Diablo II Resurrected the Thumb Culture Gold Award.

Diablo II Resurrected required far more than a new coat of paint to be a better game on today's platforms, but it is still a must-play classic.

Blizzard had to strike a careful balance of changing just enough, but not too much, which is no easy feat. Though in a lot of ways it feels like unearthing a relic like that in which you find during your dungeon-crawling exploits. Its dated design is solved by its sequel or other games within the action RPG genre. Diablo II: Resurrected has the same deep customization it’s known for. In addition, the new visuals modernize it for both PC and consoles. No matter where you play, this is the best version of the classic dungeon crawler. This remaster made in such a way to ensure that Diablo II: Resurrected is played for the next 20 plus years.

In the best moments it is very good and the atmosphere that Diablo 2: Resurrected provides, trumps most games, unfortunately the gameplay is already a little outdated, not very dynamic and old equipment solutions can be tiring. Certainly, some players will bounce back from archaisms, and those who will not be bothered by them will have the opportunity to taste one of the best games in history.
