As a game reviewer, I assumed I was bad at games so how on earth did I find Death's Door to be an unchallenging and somewhat unsatisfying experience? Whatever the reason, it's still a good game and I enjoyed mercilessly slaughtering its unique bosses.

Death's Door is a streamlined action adventure experience that finds a groove and sticks with it. With a low asking price and high level of polish, fans of this genre should find the little crow's soul reaping journey quite endearing.

The accumulation of so many elements to crow about – characters, polish, creativity, art design, combative pacing, and so on – made it an experience I couldn't put down.

So overall, Death's Door offers up a hefty challenge in a top down action adventure through an interesting world. Will it be too hard for some? Maybe, but, with plenty of ways to upgrade your character, tools and magics, there's a way to stem the difficulty but you'll have to go a bit out of the way of the general adventure for that one.

An inventive isometric slasher, Death’s Door feels like all the best bits of Souls-like structure and none of the bad. Its Zelda-inspired combat and systems are firmly at the challenging end of the spectrum, but are also pretty addictive, and mix well with a bleak yet unique story.

Ultimately it’s the boss fights you’ll remember by the time the credits roll on Death’s Door. There’s more of them than you’ll probably expect, and each and every one of them is wonderfully designed. They can be tricky to defeat – one or two of them particularly so – but when you emerge victorious the feeling is akin to overcoming a boss in Dark Souls. Needless to say, if you love games like The Legend of Zelda and don’t mind a bit more of a challenge, be sure to give Death’s Door your attention.

Even with a few issues, Death's Door is a tightly designed, challenging game that does wonders with its classic Zelda-inspired formula.

In the end, Death's Door is a charming, witty indie game. Its combat is solid, exploration is a blast, and it has just the right length. Though the lack of a map and difficulty options, in addition to a somewhat unstable frame rate, hold the title back a bit, its mix of Dark Souls and Zelda elements is a great fit. It is definitely an adventure worth checking out.

Death's Door is a nervous action game that transcends Acid Nerve's old formula. Thanks to a clever difficulty, fights with brandnew situations, a rewarding exploration and a beautiful soundtrack, Death's Door is the perfect well-balanced experience of this summer, despite a very light pathfinding.

Death's Door have a great look, great sound, and a great story about sweet embrace of death, which all culminates into one cozy adventure. Digital Devolver comes back with another gem on their hands, and we can't wait to see what Acid Nerve can make next.

All in all, Acid Nerve did a great job with Death’s Door and by pushing just a little bit more while taking a few calculated risks, they would have an outstanding game rather than a very good one. Still more than worth playing if you’re a fan of the genre and aren’t looking for something revolutionary. There is also some post-game content that should add some additional run time to your enjoyment.

Death's Door is one of the indie surprises of the year. Very well designed, melancholic and challenging, without being difficult. It knows how to transfer the essence of games like Dark Souls and Zelda in a delicious isometric perspective, with well-designed puzzles and a very well measured combat. Acid Nerve has done its homework.

A thoroughly entertaining mix of Dark Souls and Zelda that has few genuinely new ideas but still manages to enthral with a unique charm of its own.
