A huge shot of nostalgia for those who grew up on classic FPS games, this 90s throwback is more than accessible for modern gamers, however the lack of any narrative to keep you engaged may be off-putting to some.

Quake is one of the best games of all time and the remaster basically offers everything you could wish for. However, the controls may displease hardcore gamers.

Quake's remastered port to Nintendo Switch is proof that big video game companies don't need to treat their fans with disrespect when it comes to bringing back old classics. The level of content for such a small price is unmatched, and that is forgetting a whole new expansion pack was created for this release, too. The fact that everything can be completed cooperatively in multiplayer means less skilled players can enjoy getting through with the help of others, and then there are deathmatches for some of the best arena FPS action around. Well done to all involved in this.

Revisiting Quake has been both a nostalgic trip for me as well as rekindling my thirst for new games in the series. I hope this remake spawns interest in the franchise and we see a proper new game in the franchise very soon. At $10 this is an easy recommendation and if you have Game Pass it is included, so there is no excuse not to give it a go.

‎Quake Remastered or simply this new version of Quake is a success to put back in today one of the greatest classics in the history of the video game. Technically it has gotten a very interesting facelift and that brings it up to date enough to discover that the title is still just as fun as the first day. However, some bad startup settings or a clear focus on the PC version, leave in evidence problems with the controls with the controller, which does not end up feeling comfortable after the adjustments we have indicated, something that is aggravated with the multiplayer, which I do not directly recommend on console.‎

‎Bethesda has managed to transport us back to 1996 with this magnificent reissue of Quake. With a graphics revitalized to 4K and 60 fps, with a perfect and addictive gameplay that does not pass the years, making Quake become one of the pleasant surprises of the summer.‎

Quake Remastered shows us that old Quake continues to rule. A very robust, fun and nostalgic first-person shooter for veterans of the genre. If you want to enjoy one of the best FPS experiences of 30 years ago with your face washed, Quake Remastered is the ultra perfect opportunity to do so.

Quake Remastered is as good as a remaster can be. Not in the sense of the visual enhancements it has made, which, while fine and all, are just the tip of the iceberg. What makes this an excellent repackaging, is the content at hand, due to the addition of all expansions (+ 1), and the support for lots of fan-made and official mods, with more coming in. Melted the single player experience? Now lose your sense of time with online pvp or co-op fun, as well as Crossplay between all modern systems, including the humble Switch. This edition of the FPS classic is also super cheap, and is available for free for those who have already purchased the original. Nightdive Studios has given you plenty of reasons to start fragging and gibbing. You ought to thank them.

Even with so many details that leave us with that feeling of "they could have done this/that" to give it a little extra breath, id Software opted for the right to keep the original experience as a priority in this relaunch. It's always nice to see old faces back in the crowd, even if they're all battered and bleeding. Rejoice, nineties! Quake is back and remains authentic.

Quake is a seminal shooter that helped define the genre, but it's definitely starting to show its age. It's well worth experiencing the campaign, but its design and enemy placement can occasionally feel unfair. Just as well, the multiplayer is difficult to get into if you're not already familiar with it.

After reviewing Quake, I feel it's still an incredible game that holds up well even today. You get a ton of content for the price, and on top of that, there's so much replayability between the various difficulties and multiplayer options. While I wish some effort would have been made to modernize some archaic elements, they don't take away too much from the overall experience. If you're a fan of shooters at all, Quake should absolutely have a place in your Switch library.

For those who have never played Quake, the remastered is an unmissable opportunity to fill this gap and to appreciate one of the subjective shooters that marked an era. Carmack and Romero with their desire to innovate (and their quarrels!) have taken the video game industry into a new dimension: Quake is the game that has marked - indelibly - the history of id Software.

Quake Remastered—on the whole—is a damn fine shooter with great gameplay, beautifully touched-up graphics, a hauntingly stunning score by Trent Reznor, and a plethora of content.

Quake Remastered is a fantastic release. While rumours for a remaster have swirled around for years, a remaster that is both as simple and as nuanced as Quake Remastered defies all expectations. It may look rather bland in a world where Fortnite seems average and Skyrim sees its eightieth release, but it truly does have a hell of a lot to offer. Pun most definitely intended. In short: the game is exceptional.

Enemies are visually grotesque, and their blinding-rage aggression makes for an experience that, even if you’ve played previously, is a challenging experience. You have to make the most of all your weapons, although the classic strategy of “use your shotgun as often as possible” remains viable. Ditto for the rocket launcher, the weapon most closely associated with the game.

For those that haven’t been able to tell, the Quake remaster is an absolute must-play. It was a groundbreaking achievement in 1996, and though it has been a few decades since, the original Quake holds up from a gameplay standpoint. The remaster has retained everything that made this classic first-person shooter what it is, refining its rougher edges to make it a more polished experience in 2021. If you’re revisiting this game, as someone who played it in the past, know that it’s better than you remember it. For those that have yet to experience one of id Software’s most important FPS titles, the Quake remaster will quickly make its reputation apparent.
