Death Stranding Director’s Cut is a refined experienced. From the memorable sound design to the meticulously detailed open world, it has stuck with me – even more so than when I played the original back in 2019. If that was Hideo Kojima’s intention with this re-release then bravo. Mission accomplished.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is easily the best version of Kojima’s latest game. The new features and additions are more than worth the $10 upgrade for existing owners. Visually the game always looked amazing, but the new higher resolution just showcases the details even better. For anyone who enjoyed the original this upgrade is easy to recommend. For those that never played it, this is the version to get. I continue to think about this game on a weekly basis and enjoyed revisiting it with the new content.

It's hard to believe this is Hideo Kojima's preferred version of the game, considering it side lines so much of the core gameplay and adds little else of any substance.

Kojima’s unique and captivating journey across America on PS5 feels like it achieves what it couldn’t on PS4, due to excellent DualSense enhancement and meaningful updates.

Featuring 4K textures, smooth frame rates, and new content that complements the core story, Death Stranding: Director's Cut tops the vanilla game in nearly every way.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut is an essential game for anyone who does not play the original. If you have already played the original, you will not find anything that encourages you to return beyond your own desire to see the scarce new narrative content. The customization and playable facilities offered by the game do not excessively break a unique experience that can be lived as in the original. On the other hand, the desire to gamify a work that did not need it, yes it can tarnish the experience of the player, because if something did not need the game of Hideo Kojima is the competition or the races.

As this review reveals, Death Stranding Director's Cut takes the original game and shines it until it glistens. Ported to the next generation, it looks and feels better than ever. This is the best way to experience Kojima's magnum opus.

It's easy to declare Director's Cut the best way to play Death Stranding, period. It looks and executes like a dream, and crosses over PS4 saves seamlessly (to include perfect transfer of trophies). Its improved presentation and gameplay additions (notably DualSense integration) are stellar, and make a great game…even greater. Also, the new modes, items and options are icing on an already delicious cake. Death Stranding Director's Cut is therefore an arguably must buy for PS5 owners new to the game, a solid upgrade previous players will definitely appreciate.

The new UI tweaks, slight gameplay changes, small bits of story content and more all add up to a worthwhile and wonderfully bizarre package that still proves Kojima Productions have truly crafted a game unlike any other.

Games of this caliber are exceedingly rare. Death Stranding Director's Cut is a masterpiece, without question the definitive version for one of the best games I've played in the last few years. Whether you've played the PS4 version or are thinking of checking it out for the first time, don't pass up your chance to play this gem on PS5.

Some of Death Stranding Director's Cut's new additions are a little disappointing, but the experience's core mechanics remain intact. Though it is an inessential purchase, those who enjoyed the original game and want to dive in again will find plenty to like here.

Death Stranding's "director's version" offers some additions to the game that will be well received by their original admiration, but it will offer nothing to those who didn't like the principle of the game in the first place.

Hideo Kojima's games are either liked or not. I'm one of the first ones, and Death Stranding on PS5 allowed me to relive this great adventure. Although I admit that the additional story content and simplification of gameplay are a slight disappointment.

I could go on, but it's more fun if don't spoil all the fun uses KojiPro has found for these categories. Let's just say this is definitely the most comprehensive and smart use of the tech I've come across since the PS5 launched with Astro's Playroom, and that's a high bar to clear.

Death Stranding is a game that caught me by surprise, I am far from a Hideo Kojima fan and I was never overly impressed with the Metal Gear Solid franchise, but this game just hits different.

But there's no denying Death Stranding: Director's Cut's technical achievements. It's incredibly immersive, putting every new capability built into the PlayStation 5 to the test and coming out triumphant. If you were disappointed by Death Stranding's unwieldy gameplay the first time around, the Director's Cut isn't going to win you over. But if Kojima's storytelling won you over, this will be a worthwhile upgrade.
