Sloppy level design and sluggish run speed and teleportation turn the speed-based Aeon Drive into a bit of a slog.

While Aeon Drive undoubtedly has its good, stand-out moments, various grievances hold the game back from being more than your average platformer.

Normally my competitive nature would compel me to work towards becoming first in as many levels as possible, but the lack of variety of level design left me feeling like I had played enough. The mechanics of movement driving the platforming and the lovely pixel graphics deserve praise, but the short shelf life of speedrunning left me wanting something more.

It does have a multiplayer option and online leaderboards for each stage, so if competitive speed running is your thing, Aeon Drive delivers. For me, it's an interesting curio that I'm glad I played, but won't be returning to often.

Aeon Drive is an otherwise solid experience with nuanced mechanics. The biggest areas where the game struggles are, luckily, in the smaller details such as the lack of hangtime and forgetting to include a mechanic in the tutorial that, thankfully, didn't hinder the gameplay until the end. With its comfortable three-hour playtime, native speedrunning leaderboards, competitive mode, and charming personality, Aeon Drive is definitely worth checking out.

An extremely addictive adventure that "takes you off" early from various difficult points in the game.

Aeon Drive is a high-octane speed-running platformer. I played as Jackelyne (Jack) and travelled through the same thirty seconds repeatedly, trying to rebuild my rocket ship. This gameplay loop seems tedious, but each thirty-second period takes place on a different level, making each period different from the last. Is this race against time worth your effort? Find out in this Rapid Review.

Aeon Drive is fast, it's demanding and, above all, it's a lot of fun! With mechanics that are simple to understand, but that set them apart from much of the competition, we never stopped having fun exploring well-designed levels and experimenting with new tricks. It lacks the excellence of other titles from the same genre, mainly due to some technical hiccups and small decisions less well achieved when it comes to placing traps. Still, it is definitely a game that deserves a bigger audience than what it got so far!

Aeon Drive isn’t a perfect game, but it has a lot going for it. It features precise platforming, lush graphics, and an interesting premise. Sure the plot isn’t as well-realized as I hoped, and the game even ends on a serious cliffhanger ending (again), but I still think this is an adventure that fans of the original will appreciate. It’s different, but not in any ways that hurt my enjoyment. Here’s hoping 2Awesome Studio keeps up the good work, and that this isn’t the last we’ve heard of Jack and V.E.R.A.

Within its proposal, Aeon Drive delivers a game far above average. It's short for anyone looking for a brief distraction and long enough for anyone interested in collecting and exploring everything. As it tends to be a difficult and repetitive game, the dynamic gameplay and different path options in each stage help make it less tiring. Because it has a short campaign, its longevity depends on the player's interest in setting time records and collecting extras. Even with its problems and limitations, it is an excellent option for fans of the genre.

Aeon Drive is a heart game like I haven't been in a while. With its semi-Run and Gun mechanics, truffled with platforms, stuffed all into a frenetic speedrun with a hundred levels, in addition to the online options clearly focused on competitiveness and exceeding times and scores, we have a perfect title for those with fingers firm, steel pulse and vibranium nerves. A title to test yourself or against the world, with cooperative options so that the adrenaline jumps like Catalan cava.

Aeon Drive delivers a very focused experience for anyone who loves classic platformer action and wants to test their skills against other players on constantly updated leaderboards. There are a lot of cities to get through and plenty of paths to master using the teledagger. But the game would be much more engaging if it dropped the 30-second limit.

Aeon Drive is a 2D platformer focused on speedrun with a touch of collecting. It's also a lesson that not everything has to be complex, deep and emotional. Sometimes, simple fun without major complications is best.

Those into speedrunning or action-packed platformers would be wise to check Aeon Drive out. While it’s not spectacular in any particular way, there’s little to find fault with here, and it’s fun to jump into if only for a few minutes at a time, attempting to finish new levels or improve your times on those you’ve already completed. And as ever, dashing through levels with a friend or family member by your side makes the action that much more enjoyable.

Phenomenal controls and addictive gameplay are the crux of Aeon Drive. This is a very good speedrunning game that I wish did more to draw in a certain crowd, but it'll please the devoted all the same.

Aeon Drive is a solid action platformer set at a really good price. The single player, if you don’t care about collectibles, will be a quick ride, but the multiplayer adds so much more fun and replayability to the title. Ultimately, how long you enjoy the game solely depends on how you are entertained with such titles. But if you enjoy precision platforming, strong leaderboards, getting all the collectibles, and local multiplayer, this is a full package and one you could be playing for years.

If you enjoy fast-paced 2D action games where you try to complete levels as quickly as possible then you'll absolutely love everything that Aeon Drive has to offer. In fact, as it stands, it's one of the best indie games that I've played in a very long time.
