Series fans will find something to enjoy, yet those simply looking a fighting experience with friends will find this to be frustrating.

Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles is a faithful representation of the popular anime but it sticks to that path so strictly that it fails to expand beyond that framework into something more meaningful. Even with the game’s extra characters that add a little spice to the online lobbies or weekend fight nights, The Hinokami Chronicles needs more substance.

Once you’ve had your fill of the story mode, you can jump over to versus mode to test your demon slaying skills against other players in PVP. Those Kimetsu Points you picked up throughout the game can be redeemed in the Rewards menu for different voice lines for each character, different costumes, profile customizations, and, of course, different fighters to unlock. Go head to head with other players in battles both online and locally with characters not only from the anime, but the series’ official spinoff as well.

Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles is a flashy and fun anime arena fighter. The story mode is done so well that both veterans of the series and newcomers can jump right in and enjoy it equally. The visuals and voice acting are also top notch and extremely faithful to the source material. I’ll also be jumping back into it later this year when various characters from the Entertainment District Arc get added to it such as the flashy Uzui. If you don’t typically enjoy these arena fighters than this one won’t do anything to change your mind but for those who do or are just pure Demon Slayer fans you are in for a treat.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles is as good as it ever was. The Switch version doesn’t add anything for people who have the game on other systems. Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm fans, who might be excited for another similar game, should dial their content expectations way back. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba fans don’t need their teeny narrative summarized, the way Naruto fans might’ve wanted theirs. Merging these two franchises wasn’t the right decision. It would’ve been the definition of “a renter” in the 90s.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles is that rare anime game that has something for everyone. Established fans of the franchise get to play through a fantastic adaptation of the anime. Newcomers get a fantastic introduction to the anime franchise that took the world by storm. And people who don’t care about that at all and just want a fun flashy arena fighter to play around with get that in spades.

Kimetsu no Yaiba: The Chronicles of Hinokami is overly perfectionist for better and for worse. We will find an adaptation that borders on the cloned and that, for this reason, will miss the fluidity, the touch and the visual rigor that is capable of offering both the medium itself and the greatest virtues of the title

Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles is a surprisingly well done port of a pretty good game. Given all that The Hinokami Chronicles ends up accomplishing, hopefully this heralds the start of many more high quality games based on the IP to come.

Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles manages to transform the stylish anime action into a good fighting game. In addition to the stunning visuals, the game has accessible systems capable of pleasing different audiences. Besides that, the story mode captivates by offering great recreations of important plot facts, even though the exploration snippets are a little boring. Like other anime adaptations, The Hinokami Chronicles suffers from superficial mechanics and limited diversity content - possibly a sequel will improve these aspects. In the end, Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles is recommended for those looking for an uncompromising fighting title and for fans of the anime and manga.

What was good and well made on the other platforms, stays the same in this release on Nintendo Switch, which includes the previous DLCs and it's quite enjoyable.

Demon Slayer: -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles is a very solid action game, presenting a gripping story and thrilling action combat alongside an art style that almost perfectly matches the popular anime. Though combat can sometimes feel a bit shallow and the performance isn't always perfect, we'd still give this one a strong recommendation, even to those who don't have any background with the anime or manga.

The Hinokami Chronicles isn’t complex enough to challenge fighters like Dragon Ball FighterZ or Guilty Gear, but it is a fun title that will really please fans of the series.

If you aren't but a fan of anime-related fighters, you'll definitely enjoy this for the combat alone, and the Story Mode is deep enough for you to understand the characters, their relationships, and the journey they have been on. This is the first Demon Slayer video game, and developers CyberConnect2 have knocked it out of the park. I am very excited about the DLC and any possible further instalments.

The main story beats are all here, just at a slower pace than I feel a fighting game should offer. Alternatively, if you already love Demon Slayer and can look past a few hours of sluggish not-fighting to get to some really fun and flashy combat with your favorite characters, then this is definitely the game for you.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles brings on Switch the same flavor we savored at the end of 2021, bringing to the table the free updates released on the other platforms, and the promise of new playable characters coming in the future. The portable experience is surprisingly faithful to the home console one, but some extent of exclusive content or at least an updated story mode would have turned a simple "switch port" into a much more welcomed return.

‎Kimetsu no Yaiba comes to Nintendo Switch with a fantastic port, so much so that you will have to strive to find real differences with the rest of the versions released. If we add to that the portability or that it arrives "complete" (with all the post-launch characters), the conclusion is that we are facing a more than recommended version.‎

If you really want to try out Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles, just wait for the next sale. At this state the feels more like a prototype. CyberConnect2 can certainly do better.

We are really happy about the next "fighting style" game adaptation of the famous anime series. The experience of the Demon Slayer story from the player's view was great. But we still feel that the playstyle was limited and we are looking for more immersive parts.

As a fan of Demon Slayer series you'll probably have an easier time communicating with the game, but for anybody else there isn't much entertainment on offer here as long cut scenes and shallow gameplay really hurt the overall experience.
