FAR: Changing Tides doesn't surpass the achievements of FAR: Lone Sails – but it comes close – and is another example of Okomotive's considerable talents.

Even with slight hiccups like this, I still adored my time with Far: Changing Tides. The gameplay and design are reminiscent of Playdead’s Limbo and Inside, while featuring a beautiful setting that really draws you into the world without ever saying a word. If you like puzzle games and are looking for a quick and scenic adventure, then Far: Changing Tides is going to be just for you.

Contemplative and striking, FAR: Changing Tides is an indie adventure that should be sought out. The light gameplay and sparse storytelling may not be for everyone, but it makes up for these deficiencies with its gorgeous visual design and excellent pace.

Offering puzzles and water everywhere, FAR: Changing Tides is an enjoyable indie to explore on Switch, especially due to its ability to create thought-provoking challenges and deep, peaceful ambience. There are some issues but they don't outshine the fun in progressing and navigating through the adventure's seas. Therefore, this title proves itself inspiring, creative and with a unique gameplay.

A post-apocalyptic narrative adventure, minimalist and with a great atmosphere, both visually and aurally. It is a continuation of its predecessor, but the journey on the high seas is still a genuine experience.

FAR: Changing Tides is the follow-up to FAR: Lone Sails, following a little boy named Toe as he leaves his home in a makeshift boat after an unseen apocalyptic event. There is no dialogue or combat, leaving all of FAR's storytelling to be interpreted by the player as they solve puzzles to overcome obstacles on their travels.

Despite the little niggles, FAR: Changing Tides is a delightful game that will work your brain and make you sit up and take notice of the world around you. The mechanics are well thought out and common sense will help you through in the majority of situations. I would highly recommend that before playing this game you do play the prequel as it will help you understand what is expected of you and I am glad I did that before sitting down to play and review this sequel. Overall this a game that is a voyage of discovery well worth persevering with and the rewards far outweigh the occasional gripes.

FAR: Changing Tides offers a richer and fuller experience over its predecessor. Okomotive went above and beyond to make the puzzles more involved and elaborate, yet intuitive to solve rather quickly. The environmental storytelling of Changing Tides is equally compelling and emotionally impactful. There’s not a demanding aspect of the game, and it likes to let you breathe for some truly relaxing moments. While you should play FAR: Lone Sails first, they’re complimentary to one another and I must implore that you play both regardless of order. FAR: Changing Tides is a wonderful sequel, it has so many wondrous moments of greatness that you won’t forget.

A calm, sometimes even relaxing journey through the deserted world in the formula of a puzzle-platformer and in a phenomenal setting. If you liked Lone Sails - with FAR: Changing Tides it will be similar.

FAR: Changing Tides fascinates [players] with a contemplative journey through an abandoned world. Manually controlling a vehicle that's simultaneously a ship and a submarine is really intuitive, and the various puzzles along the way helps the game offer some variety. Beautiful backgrounds and a well placed soundtrack intensify emotions such as loneliness and feeling small before the vast locales. This sequel to FAR: Lone Sails has brand new mechanics and concepts, adding to the adventure's longevity. However, these new features aren't only positive: the rhythm is boring sometimes and some tasks related to the machine control can be tiresome due to their repetitiveness and other issues. In the end, FAR: Changing Tides manages to create a pleasant experience, though far from being perfect.

FAR: Changing Tides even when it's at its best feels like the game world itself: empty. It feels a bit that the game aspect was less important than the experience part. I believe FAR: Lone Sails offers a much more dynamic experience than the sequel.

FAR : Changing Tide is a nice journey through a flooded world on a ship that becomes one of the game's protagonists. The visuals are awesome, and the OST and sound design are in a league of their own. Just don't expect any challenge or much action in what is essentially a very calm experience.

Like its predecessor, FAR: Changing Tides serves up a poignant journey through a lonely apocalyptic landscape with a bigger ship, a bigger world and a bigger scope overall. At the same time, it still retains that same claustrophobic feel and charm while serving up all sorts of environmental puzzles for you to solve. The extra mechanics can admittedly be frustrating to deal with at times as you find yourself juggling many things at once and it also doesn’t quite have the same sense of newness for veterans of the first game. Overall, however, FAR: Changing Tides is the kind of game that makes you wonder and also makes you think, which is a credit to the compelling atmosphere that it deftly provides.

Game length is about right and although there is very little narrative, the story does come full circle and has a satisfying conclusion. If you are looking for a chilled-out, unusual puzzle-solving game I heartily recommend this one. It has been available to play from day one on Game Pass so there is no reason not to jump in and check it out.
