God of War Ragnarök is a mighty sequel that excels its predecessor in nearly every regard. Only the graphics are a bit disappointing on PS5.

The end result is a God of War Ragnarök that stands among some of the best PlayStation games, but falls ever-so slightly short of the greatest. This is far from a disappointment. But it doesn’t quite reach the lofty heights of what came before.

God of War: Ragnarök manages to improve even more its original proposal, bringing one of the best titles in the Kratos saga.

As for the future of the God of War franchise, I’m not sure what to expect. Ragnarok leaves a few open threads that provide opportunities for DLC expansions. Kratos found an appropriate and redeeming end that I would hate to see taken away from him to just to continue the series. I’m not confident that Atreus would be the right fit to carry the future of the franchise, at least not without a significant time jump and growth of abilities. But whether or not Santa Monica Studios buts the IP to rest or releases new games will be revealed in time.

God of War Ragnarok is the end of times, God of War Ragnarok is the best of times. You will not want to miss this final chapter.

God of War Ragnarok makes use of cinematic techniques and skilled actors to tell its story of holding on and letting go. But it doesn't feel beholden to cinematic trappings. It's proud of its history and medium and plays sublimely as a result. With a focus on fun and flow, God of War Ragnarok's bloody and beautiful pieces fit together swimmingly.

Few games released in 2022, or any year for that matter, are as well designed and made as God of War Ragnarök. While it doesn’t completely move beyond its predecessor, it eventually offers enough fresh content to stand apart, and additional variety helps make it the stronger game of the two, even if it’s perhaps a bit less focused. A beautifully told story that carries the themes of the prior game while allowing Atreus to stand on his own kept my interest until the very end. If you didn’t care for 2018’s God of War, then Ragnarök won’t change your mind, but everyone else should absolutely check it out.

God of War Ragnarock paints a more authentic vision of Norse mythology that really sets it apart from the more glamorous portrayals we are familiar with. The subtle ways Kratos tries to "be better" combine to form an enlightening evolution of a man that was once nothing more than an instrument of war. Unfortunately, the combat is not nearly as flawless as the story with aspects such as dodging and switching weapons lacking responsiveness. This is not the next-gen experience you might be waiting for but it doesn't stop it from being one of the most impressive games in the series and a satisfying conclusion to the Norse saga.

God of War Ragnarok follows in the footsteps of the first game and is a quality production that players will love with the innovations and improvements it offers in every sense. If you loved the first game, you can be sure that you will love this one.

God of War Ragnarok is not only a fitting end to a saga that had no right to be this enthralling and engaging, but it does more than enough to justify players to buy this off the shelf. And perhaps even get a new PlayStation console to see it in its 60fps high-res majesty.

I simply enjoyed the hell out of this video game. This journey comes out swinging and never lets up. Even during its subtle moments, you'll be captivated one way or another by the characters, the scenery, and the level of quality that only a handful of creators can accomplish. The folks at Santa Monica Studio are true masters of their art, and I can’t recommend God of War Ragnarok enough.

This concluding entry builds upon the strengths of its predecessor and is a final conclusion to its story, but some of the flaws still remain.

God of War Ragnarök is to God of War (2018) as God of War II was to God of War. God of War II may not have changed much mechanically, but it made nuanced improvements to gameplay, story and level design, all while injecting much-needed variety into the enemies and environments.

God of War: Ragnarok is a highly polished and incredibly produced but predictable entry into the series. A worthy continuation of the reboot, this is another must-play Sony title that continues to define the development style of first party studios.

Ragnarök chooses iteration over innovation, but continues to operate in a league of its own in terms of its nuanced gameplay and otherworldly technical execution. This is the new posterchild for what the PS5 is capable of, and the passionate product of a development outfit that can seemingly do no wrong.

We wanted to experience a different saga, and God of War Ragnarök feels like the expansion of one we’ve already heard around the hearth, seen in a beautiful tapestry and heard on the high seas venturing towards more loot. Though it’s still a very, very good saga. One worthy of the Edda.

God of War: Ragnarok throws almost the entire cadre of remaining Norse gods at the beardy one and the result is an incremental but still spectacular step up from 2018's title, refining the existing systems and loading the game with a dense narrative that satisfies more often than it distracts.
