Playing Weird West, it’s hard to shake how much more gracefully other games of this type avoid similar pitfalls, with the abbreviated scavenging of Void Bastards and the easy-to-read interface of Desperados III, another western with a top-down perspective, immediately coming to mind. The latter game also supports far more complex maneuvers despite lacking the sort of pointless granularity that has the player comb through indistinguishable shelves for a handful of ammunition. By contrast, Weird West is a slog dying for an extensive streamline.
If the bugs are patched, Weird West has the potential to be a truly excellent game, as there is a lot of fun to be had in the West, you just sometimes have to make it yourself.
A dark-fantasy western RPG with a compelling world and an ambitious narrative, Weird West is undermined by awkward combat and micromanagement. Weird West's rotating multi-character perspective will be an acquired taste, but makes sense as a method of world-building. It's got room to grow, but right now, it's challenging to build momentum in the early game and to persevere through the mid-game.
Weird West sadly just isn’t as unique, strange or compelling as its setting and ideas suggest it should be. A decent twin-stick shooter with solid but repetitive combat, a limited sandbox and inconsequential decision making undermine the potential for an awesome gun slinging adventure. Sometimes, declaring yourself weird just ain’t enough, you’ve got to have the stones to commit to the best duels of the wild west.
While its narrative aspirations and desire for immersive role playing seem to aim at the Hollywood tradition of the Western, Weird West ends up feeling more like a disposable dime novel.

While Weird West's story is generally engaging and its characters are great, its core gameplay teeters on terrible so often that it's hard to recommend it when Red Dead Redemption 2 is still on sale.
Weird West is a fun, but awkward game. The aiming and gun fighting mechanics often lead to frustration and make it almost unplayable at times. The story is interesting and different and the characters are fun to get to know, but the weapons aren’t very diverse and the armor and clothes are a minimal addition. It’s one of those games, that if you can master the mechanics of it and like this type of camera angle, you’ll probably enjoy it, but still find it lacking in overall depth. Personally, I love Diablo-type games and found Weird West to be enjoyable, but often tedious. Luckily, there’s a quick save and quick load feature for those untimely deaths and missteps. Trust me — those will happen often.
This is one game that is certainly worth checking out, if only for the setting and story premise, and if you could find some way to look beyond the less than ideal conditions of the gameplay segments, then perhaps you already possess the necessary steel and nerve to make it in the Weird West.
Weird West slings a few effective yarns, but fumbles when it comes to dealing in lead.
Despite some of the same minds behind Dishonored being involved, this top-down immersive doesn't live up to its soaring ambitions and often struggles to entertain.
Despite the considerable ambitions of the project by Raphael Colantonio and his WolfEye Studios, Weird West fails to best express the potential of a creative vision as multifaceted as it is unsustainable, at least for the current production structure of the team.

Weird West does have some interesting and novel ideas. Sadly, bugs, AI issues, and questionable mechanics prove to be problematic.
I’m sure some folks out there will find the gameplay good enough, but even knowing how fascinating the story is, I wouldn’t have put over twenty hours into this game if I knew at the outset what I know now.
It may not be the showstopper some might have been expecting, but Weird West is a great "appetizer" for what we can see in the future from WolfEye Studios.

It’s buggy, the balance is off, and a good 80% of the locations only really serve as random sidequest destinations. But the storytelling drew me in, the stealth worked rather well, and on the occasions when I felt like I had resources to burn it was just so dang satisfying to slow motion dive out from behind a corner while blasting a barrage of shotgun shells.
The truth is that Weird West is a title where the bad parts are highlighted, but even so, the title has a great story and a sensational artistic section that makes it a more than interesting option within the genre.

As a game that delves into the supernatural, the story of Weird West is surprisingly interwoven with humanity. It tells a story in such a way that it makes you think otherwise of the things you used to think were awesome. If a game’s narrative makes you ponder for a solid moment, that’s a game worth experiencing in my book.
There’s a lot of fun to be had in the Weird West, but it sometimes feels more like a testing ground for a more fleshed-out sequel.
It's not a bad game when you keep the expectations low.
