Like the best in literature and the arts, by the time Chrono Cross’ credits roll you’re going to be left in a reflective mood. It’s not just that it’s a very good game – though it is – is also that it’s a probing work of art that asks meaningful questions of the players and respects them enough to allow them to come to their own conclusions about it. This is the first time that we’ve had the opportunity to play the game here in Australia, and it’s telling that this 23-year-old game comes across as one of the most forceful steps forward for games as an art form that we’re going to see this year.

‎Chrono Cross is one of the best JRPGs of all time, and this remaster works as a perfect tribute to the Chrono Trigger saga, making it possible to finally finish in our language the story that began in 1995. With several impressive additions to technical and artistic levels, and an absence of bugs, bugs or loading times, the game turns out to be the best remaster Square-Enix has made to date of one of its games. An essential game if you are a fan of JRPGs.‎

One of Squaresoft’s finest classics playable on modern hardware and, despite some setbacks, it holds up wonderfully.

The speed-up and toggles for enemy encounters and battle boosts were welcome in this playthrough, mostly because I could toy with elements and characters more than I did in the past. While Radical Dreamers isn't much more than an alternate history curiosity, the fact it is actually localized and legitimately available outside of Nintendo's long inactive downloadable Satellaview network is incredible. Chrono Cross is a wonderful game - hands down my favorite PlayStation RPG - and the Radical Dreamers Edition is the best and friendliest way to play it.

While upgraded graphics and gameplay enhancements may not be enough for everyone, it's still a great game thanks to a vibrant world and cast and its take on the tired and true turn-based battle system. Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers is a worthwhile port for fans of the game and those looking to play for the first time.

‎As a remastering it has aspects that can be improved, but being able to feel the warm sea breeze again and listen to the evocative soundtrack, finally with a Spanish translation, makes Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition a gift for any JRPG fan.‎

It's a classic Chrono Cross that transcends time, both in itself and in our world, and in its renewed form, it deserves you to give it an opportunity.

More than two decades since its original release, Chrono Cross is still one of the most innovative JRPGs with a brilliant plot and setting. Some of the quality of life improvements are very welcomed and the visual touch ups coupled with the option to just use the original graphics is also a big plus in the world of remasters.

Although sometimes underrated, particularly for its confusing and convoluted narrative design, there is no doubt that Chrono Cross was, in many ways, exceptional for its time. Even in the present day, Cross is still deep, resourceful, and a benchmark of gameplay and narrative synergy for non-linear design within its genre. Radical Dreamers is also an expensive piece for Western fans who have waited decades for a localization and brings an interesting alternate version of the early events in Chrono Cross, also adding to reflect on the gameplay and music of the JRPG. Even considering it's a low-cost collection, Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition could be better, especially in battle performance. However, there is no denying that the team's other efforts to bring these titles to the new generation of consoles are commendable, especially Chrono Cross, which remains a great recommendation for JRPG fans.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition is a chance to rediscover, or play for the umpteenth time, one of the best JRPGs from the golden age of PlayStation. Majestic in its art direction and music, and with one of the most elaborate and intriguing stories ever seen, there are very few criticisms that can be made of the original game, and in general the biggest "flaw" that can be attributed to it is that it wasn't the disruptive masterpiece that its predecessor was. In fact, the inclusion of Chrono Trigger (even at a higher price) would have made the compilation a must-have, too bad. The refinements that Square Enix has made for this remaster may not be optimal for an ideal visual performance, but they are accompanied by a series of substantial additions that, against a budget price of € 19.99, make the package definitely worth buying and recommended for any lover of the genre.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition is a remaster that should have happened years ago, and I’m so glad that the JRPG classic has finally received the respect it deserves in the modern landscape. You seldom see it discussed alongside other genre greats in the mainstream zeitgeist, but perhaps that perception will change now Serge’s iconic adventure is available on a selection of platforms with myriad improvements. Not all of its changes are for the best, but are easy enough to accept when the underlying game is still so masterful.

The rating takes into account the absolute and undeniable value of Chrono Cross, an excellent role-playing game that everyone should experience. Unfortunately the operation of "rebirth" is not entirely successful due to some questionable choices, but the inclusion of the elusive Radical Dreamers contributes to a package that – especially at this price – must be a part of the cultural baggage of any fan of JRPG worthy of the name.
