Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is an ok game that must be viewed first and foremost as an intro to the much bigger project: Hundred Heroes. The cast of character is interesting, but the overall plot is a bit boring, and the side quests are uninspired. We mostly enjoyed the art and the fact that you can instantly switch between three characters in a unique way. If you like Japanese games and you have Game Pass, it's worth a shot. Otherwise, even though it comes from the same studio, don't expect this to be the great Suikoden spiritual successor that you are hoping for in their main Kickstarter project.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is rather unexpected in the sense that it's a prequel of a game that hasn't been released yet, but that doesn't prevent it from having a great plot and outstanding characters. It does take its time to gather pace, however, which requires some patience until the game shows all its value, but the most committed players will be duly rewarded with Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising until the next game arrives.

A compact fantasy story, with simple gameplay, a lot of backtracking, a gameplay cycle that engages, endearing characters and a fantastic art that combines 2.5D with grace. It is not a title that seeks to be ambitious, but it is enjoyable, and that is why it is comforting.

Despite its drawbacks, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a fun Action-RPG Hybrid with a charming story and a colorful cast.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a beautiful and enjoyable action RPG, but it doesn't dare too much. Combat, whose main concept is to instantly switch between heroes, is fast and agile. Besides that, the world captivates with impeccable visuals, charismatic characters and plenty to explore. Note that the focus is on exploring established concepts of the genre in a simplified way, making the adventure very accessible. However, this approach becomes the game's biggest problem with low challenge, repetitive missions and underused mechanics, which hinders the experience. In the end, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is satisfying and ideal for the undemanding players.

I really had no idea as to what information I needed to keep in mind going into Hundred Heroes. Rising felt more like a one-off story that just happens to take place in the same world. It’s actually something that works against Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising.

I enjoyed my time with Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising but as I was playing more of it, I kept thinking that this is a game that can be so much more. For both the narrative, its town building, level design, and combat – each one has a solid foundation in place but never takes it up a notch.

Chalk this 2D action RPG platformer under the “charming and inoffensive” category of entertainment. At the very least, this diversion from the actual Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes game will at least be worth 10 hours or so of your time.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising has made a substantial effort to use a rich narrative with charming characters to create a genuinely wholesome world. However, the side quests serve as a barrier, as they entail the monotonous affair of gathering materials. Hopefully, Hundred Heroes will not fall prey to the same shortcomings as this introduction chapter.

A short game that doesn't outstay its welcome, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising was an enjoyable, if slightly repetitive, experience that serves as an ample teaser for something bigger.

With its adorable 2.5 aesthetics and lighthearted plot, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising offers a quick fix and a promising outlook for what’s to come with Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

The action adventure game Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising manages to carve out its own identity while serving as an introduction to the lore of the forthcoming Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes JRPG. Basic combat, tedious fetch-quests and linear town-building may put off those seeking a solid challenge, but the game's sprightly action, jovial spirit, and spunky characters will carry casual platformer fans through its relatively short play time.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is an interesting game, both due to its present quality and how much better it could have been with more time and resources. It's a fun journey but pacing issues and several underdeveloped aspects make it somewhat forgettable.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising lacks those master strokes that could have made it better, but it's enjoyable for 2D fantasy's lovers.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed all the time I've been spending with Eiyuden Chronicles: Rising. On the surface, the gameplay really is quite simple and although it never really provided a real challenge, the game's simplicity worked in its favor. While it may have plenty of little hiccups, it is a fun sidescrolling RPG with a strong focus on town building. However, if you expect much more than that out of it, you might find yourself disappointed. Should you be a Gamepass subscriber, I highly recommend giving it a try.

Rising is a satisfactory introduction to the world of Eiyuden Chronicle, with great characters, writing, and art. However, the game structure and combat have a hard time standing on their own.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is an appetizer prepared for admirers of Murayama's work who cannot quench their appetite while waiting for Hundred Heroes. With obvious limitations and problems that are not always easily digestible, Rising is a work recommended mostly to all those who do not want to miss even a piece of the Eiuyuden Chronicle universe.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising was initially a Kickstarter reward, and as a reward, it's pretty great. Despite the combat and gameplay loop not being as great as the town-building and characters, it's still a really enjoyable game. Regardless of its flaws with repetition, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a lot of fun and should have plenty of people excited for Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes in 2023.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a prequel to Hundred Heroes set in the same world, and is a solid action RPG. But its tedious nature makes it hard to enjoy in the long run.
