Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is one of the most beautiful games I have ever played. It is full of heart, soul, and decades of passion. MonolithSoft has once again crafted one of the greatest JRPGs of all time, going above and beyond in all aspects. With intricately written characters, a deep and engaging story, and a massive world hosting hundreds of hours of playtime, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a must-play title for any fan of RPGs.

It’s a game that I genuinely believe to be one of the greatest JRPGs I’ve had the pleasure to play. If there was never another Xenoblade game (although let’s face it, there will be though), I would be perfectly satisficed with this momentous well-crafted conclusion.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the culmination to over twelve years of storytelling that was started back in 2010 with Xenoblade Chronicles. Part of the wider ‘Xeno’ series of RPGs, this relatively unknown series has since gone from obscurity to becoming one of Nintendo’s big-hitters. With the premise of another massive world to explore – and a story that aims to tie-up the loose ends of Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Xenoblade Chronicles 3 already had an air of anticipation around its release.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is big, bold and broad in all fronts. It’s captivating narrative gives endless purposes to the gamer and tells a different tale this time around. Although it uses many anime style shenanigans here it has a very uniqe premise about regret, hope, meaning of going on and of course friendship. The music, deep class system, breathtaking locales and general production quality is top notch and I really liked how it’s big big world captives my soul and never ever a borefest. This is easily the best game in the long running series and one the best JRPG’s all time.

Despite a few issues, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a remarkable achievement that evolves the series formula in exciting ways, all the while weaving an emotionally charged story that is sure to be remembered for a long time to come. It makes a strong case not just as one of the best games of the year but as one of the best of all time.

One of the best JRPGs ever made, marred slightly by some disappointing story beats.

In the end, while I do have my complaints, I still had a ton of fun with Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I’ve been extremely off and on burnt out lately and I’ve started and played so many games in the last year, only to lack the drive to actually finish them. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was exactly what I needed. I jumped at the chance to review it back when it was announced and it didn’t completely disappoint me. It kept me occupied for over a month and I didn’t have my usual urge as of late to jump ship and find another game to try and get sucked into for a little while. I don’t know what I would have done this summer without Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I look forward to getting back into it to sidequest some more in the future and I’m anxious to see what comes out later, as far as DLC content is concerned. It wasn’t the perfect Xenoblade game I expected and was hoping for. Nonetheless, it was overall a wonderfully fun JRPG experience.

The third chapter in the series brings the Xenoblade name to heights that were difficult to imagine just a few years ago but which this game's immense world, enthralling plot, cast of characters, myriad of complex but perfectly implemented gameplay mechanics, and gorgeous environment to look at and to listen to help reaching in what amounts to a fantastic opus that can be carried anywhere. Truly an indispensable game on the Nintendo Switch.

Monolith Soft and Nintendo once again bring one of the best JRPG games of this year to their hybrid console. Both the story and the combat experience are excellent, all wrapped up in an outstanding soundtrack that accompanies you from the beginning to the end of the adventure. To put it boldly, this is a must play for any JRPG fan!

You’d think that the bigger an enemy is, the harder it would fall, but because the only determining factor of difficulty is the gap between your level and theirs, there’s no sense of scale to combat. The only tactic you need is that of attrition: The longer a battle drags on, the more meters you’ll fill, and the flashier the attacks that you’ll be able to unleash, like interlinking with allies to briefly enter a more powerful form, or executing a chain attack that laboriously unleashes a series of uninterruptible commands. Your sword-sponge enemies have millions of hit points not because it makes for interesting combat, but because it stretches things out long enough to make players feel as if they’re more than cogs in the system. These flashy combos are a good way to illustrate the importance of teamwork to the plot, but in terms of gameplay, they only continue to demonstrate how overly engineered every inch of the conflict is.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is one of the best JRPGs in recent years. Its characters, story, and world are all exceptional, and it’s remarkably fun to play. The fact that this game came out ahead of its original release date is wild, as it’s turned out to potentially be the best RPG on the Nintendo Switch. If you’re looking for a long, enthralling game to get lost in, grab Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

As I watched a melancholy hero play a beautiful melody to clean a war-torn battlefield of its fallen soldiers, I found it evident what Xenoblade Chronicles 3 would be. This is Monolith Soft’s final symphony for their acclaimed trilogy of loosely connected stories and a curtain call for the developer’s history up until this very point in time. After 15 years of creating entries in this franchise and 22 years of forging some of the industry’s finest RPGs, Monolith Soft brings their first grand era of gods and titans to a close by culminating all of their lessons thus far. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is yet another work of art from Nintendo’s all-star developer, deserving of its high praise.

Give it the 80 hours it takes to finish it or the 300 hours for the entire series. It earns every second of your time.

Monolithsoft has culminated in an ending that they’ve had their sights on for over a decade, and it shows in the level of detail and quality of life improvements that they’ve made emanating from that ten-plus years’ worth of experience. It’s a robust conclusion to the JRPG franchise and spans well over a hundred hours of gameplay, leading up to a finale that long-time fans will thoroughly enjoy without leaving newer players wanting. Although the true potential of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 feels held back by the limitations of the Switch’s hardware, developer Monolithsoft has clearly taken all of the lessons and experiences that they’ve accumulated over the years and crafted a gem that even Riku the Nopon would consider priceless.

My high hopes for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 being a great entry in the series were far exceeded after finishing the game. It’s one of the best JRPGs I’ve ever played, and I can’t recommend it enough to all those who own a Nintendo Switch.

The massive world and intricate real-time battle system of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 may seem daunting even by JRPG standards, but both are easy to get into. It's not my favorite Xenoblade Chronicles game, but I can say with certainty I enjoyed nearly every battle, plot twist, and Nopon I encountered in the 140+ hours I've put into it (so far).
