Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak does a great job of building upon some of Rise’s gaming mechanics. Some may find it a shame or even weird that the heavily advertised Rampage didn’t receive any updates, however, Sunbreak is huge and feels like it could be a full game on its own with the new features being enough to bring back players for a long time.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is a fantastic expansion to the original Monster Hunter Rise. It lacks some of the robustness of previous franchise expansions on launch, and there can be some frustrating moments found within. However, this is more than made up for by new abilities, extra quality-of-life features, and increased challenge. Sunbreak is a fantastic choice for new players wanting more variety or veteran hunters seeking tougher battles.

Sunbreak lacks fresh ideas and withholds its new monsters for far too long, but small changes improve upon Rise's spectacular monster hunting.

Not the most ambitious Monster Hunter expansion there's ever been but it's still able to introduce a host of new creatures and features to the always engaging formula.

Although I personally love Monster Hunter World just a little bit more, Rise is a thrilling and engrossing game. Sunbreak does what it needs to do. It adds some awesome new monsters, sweetens gameplay, and folds in a new way to hunt with NPCs. It takes a while to get to the really good stuff, but fans of Rise probably won’t mind. Thanks to the Master Rank quests and ultra-challenging hunts, Sunbreak pushes experienced players to take their already impressive skills to a whole new world.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak makes a decent effort to improve the endgame, but it’s the subtle improvements to combat and some worthwhile QoL changes that stand out in the expansion.

An expansion that broadly expands the game experience. With the omission of Frenzy events, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak bets on monsters, NPC companions and a more western setting.

From new weapons, armor, and monsters, to the new characters, hub area, and maps, including one of the best maps you’ll find in the entire series, Sunbreak delivers quantity AND quality.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is exactly what you would expect; more of the same sweet sweet gameplay loop. There’s a bunch of new monsters to fight in new and old locations. The only things letting down Sunbreak are the early game pacing issues, and depending on your tastes, not the finest roster of new monsters. Saying that, there is more than enough to keep you busy for many hours to come as you progress through the brutally tough Master Rank and endgame content. If this is the end of Rise, then Capcom sure have done it justice.

Punctual, even if not perfect, the Sunbreak expansion brings good improvements and excellent content to Monster Hunter Rise. Although much is gameplay updates and more quality of life for the game, there are enough new features to hook the player and guarantee more dozens of hours invested.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is a great expansion to an already good game. You'll appreciate all the changes and new features added, but it won't give you a challenge until much later.

The new monsters were the highlight of my experience in Sunbreak, the new crab monsters were by far my favorite. Due to them scuttling about it made their movements unpredictable and made for a much more dynamic and thrilling fight that forced me to get better at utilizing my movement skills. The only real issue with the expansion is that it takes so long to get to the new monsters. Having to complete the main game and then slog through the same monsters just juiced to Master rank makes for a bit of a slog but once you clear it the fun of discovering new monsters and techniques makes up for it. Sunbreak isn’t going to create new fans but it will give longtime ones a lot more of what they love.

The Sunbreak expansion only serves to elevate the already excellent experience that Monster Hunter Rise features, with a slew of new monsters, locales, armor, weapons, mechanics, and quality of life updates. It builds on nearly every aspect of the base game, without compromising anything in between. Just know that there is a high barrier to entry, especially for non-hardcore fans, in terms of price, difficulty, and grind.

From Yokai to creatures of the darkest Western legends: Sunbreak expands the world of Rise consistently - and not just through monsters. The techniques available to players multiply, in one of the most layered hunting experiences ever.

However, don’t expect anything revolutionary. Sunbreak builds on a firm foundation and caters to those who conquered the base game. However, I see those who played tens of hours of Monster Hunter Rise feeling a bit weary when they boot up Sunbreak. Especially given its slow start.

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak elevates the possibilities of the base game with an expansion full of content and improvements that further sharpen the refreshing gameplay we already knew. Although there could be more new monsters, this expansion is a must-buy for any hunter.

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is more of the same for Rise fans, which is great, but the lack of truly 'new' stuff is disappointing.
