Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge Reviews
While the game’s difficulty is a bit uneven and movement can be stiff at times, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge largely succeeds as a love letter to not only the classic TMNT side-scrollers of old, but the franchise as a whole. With Shredder’s Revenge now in the wild and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Collection set to launch on consoles later this year, it’s safe to say that fans of the Heroes-In-A-Half-Shell have no shortage of retro-style gaming action in 2022.
Although a relatively short game by genre standards, Shredder's Revenge takes you on a fun, mutagen-powered romp through New York City's ninja-filled streets.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge looks to bring back the glory days of Konami's side-scrolling arcade beat 'em ups and home hits based on everyone's favorite young green ninjas. In its visuals and gameplay, Dotemu and Tribute Games have not only matched those retro classics that they're paying homage to here, but perhaps even surpassed them. Sadly, this trip through time is somewhat marred by inconsistent audio and an Arcade mode that feels more like a slog than a thrill.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is a game with one foot in the 90s and the other in the present. The foundation is just like in the old 2D classics, but honed control and smart additions do a lot for the whole. This is modern retro at its best.

Light on content but heavy on satisfying gameplay and great artwork, Shredder's Revenge is exactly what fans of Turtles in Time would want out of a beat 'em up.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is a superb beat-'em-up that captures the spirit of Konami's coin-op classics, but modernises them in all the right areas. With smooth combat, gorgeous presentation, and rock-solid rollback netcode, it all adds up to deliver a super fun experience.
TMNT: Shredder's Revenge sticks close to its classic beat 'em up roots but still manages to be a wildly entertaining tribute to the Ninja Turtles.
If you're a fan of classic Ninja Turtles games, you'd definitely love to spend every minute inside Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge that clearly evokes nostalgia.

Obviously, if you love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, you’ll love Shredder's Revenge. As hinted at in the intro to this review, it’s built for you! If you’re like me and don’t have that history, you’ll still find a polished, super enjoyable experience here. With up to six player co-op, it’s the perfect game to slap on in the living room with some friends crashing round, plug in a few controllers and have a bash. I did, for important critique-related reasons, order some pizza while I was testing it out. I can confirm that it does, in fact, make the experience that much more enjoyable. Additional toppings aside from cheese were not tested.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge confirms, as far as Beat 'em Ups are concerned, the good form of DotEmu. A classic exercise that knows how to bring the right novelties without betraying the most conservative canons of the genre, which is excellent in terms of gameplay, and which is crowned as one of the best videogames ever made about the Ninja Turtles. Moreover, it is just as much fun to play alone as it is with others. A sure value for fans of the genre and fans of the franchise alike.

Shredder's Revenge more than lives up to the legacy of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games that inspired it. While Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge isn't perfect, especially when it comes to online multiplayer and the amount of content, it is a very good game. For the price, you won't be disappointed. Plus, it's a really great local multiplayer title where 4 to 6 players (depending on the platform) can play simultaneously. Older players will appreciate the nostalgic feel throughout the title. Younger players will find endearing heroes in a high quality beat them up.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge is a testament to the Beat 'Em Up genre. If you ignore some issues that the game (and the genre) has, you'll find a turtley fun time worth picking up in an evening when you're free.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is a fantastic throwback brawler with a solid presentation, fun combat and handful of modern additions that provide at least a little more depth than your typical 90’s arcade cabinet. I do wish there was a little more meat on these bones, but the Heroes in a Half Shell are worth going on this nostalgic trip with.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is a true tribute to the 80's and 90's series, capable of transporting us to feelings that we affectionately keep in the back of our mind. Even more so, it manages on its own merit, to stand out as a competent beat'em up for new generations that want to try it. This is an essential title for any lover of the genre and a great way to spend an evening well spent.
