Still, I had a fun time with all these games especially Sonic 2 and Sonic and Knuckles. Sonic 1 was a bit rough to get through and while I admire Sonic CD, the time travel mechanic was a bit too much for me when I’m just trying to go fast through levels. At the end of the day, that’s what I got out of Sonic Origins. Fun titles that hold up wrapped around a compilation package that is lacking in some sense and charging for extras that would be free in any other bundle. I can still recommend this one for the die-hard Sonic fans or for people like me that never got to experience these titles back in the day.

A conflicting compilation of Sonic games that does plenty right in remastering some of the blue hedgehog's classic Mega Drive hits, but lets everyone down with unnecessary money-grabbing DLC, while not offering anywhere near the amount of content that really should be here in terms of the Sonic series' vast history. Still with bugs to fix, time will tell if Sonic Origins becomes a respectable overall package, but it will suffice for the more casual fan after a bigger price drop.

For the price of $39.99 of just the basic version without other small DLC, this is a good collection of games that can be a nostalgia trip and also serve as a celebration of the classics that started it all and introduced the world to the Blue Blur. It’s a fantastic game that has replayability and charm with the only downside being the collision glitches against some walls and platforms and Tails glitching out. Those I have hope will be fixed with patches but even with those somewhat glaring issues, I enjoyed the classic and the new animated cutscenes that breathe new life into the franchise that started gaming career.

Sonic Origins banks too much on nostalgia. The games are functional and are enjoyable as always but the glitches introduced to Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles with regards to Tails are annoying. Sonic 3’s soundtrack being changed so drastically feels incredibly disappointing too.

‎Sonic Origins is that collection of classic games that seemed like you didn't need, but that manages to be necessary for fans of the blue hedgehog. It is the best version of these games that are classic and that it is very good that they continue to be played. It's not a perfect game: it has problems, and it lacks games. Perhaps one of the most striking flaws is that Sonic 3 does not include its original soundtrack.‎

Sonic Origins is a collection of SEGA titles that should not be missing from your library.

The games in Sonic Origins are among the best Sonic the Hedgehog titles in existence and this package is a great way to experience these games, especially for new fans who were introduced to the franchise by the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. The people who already own these games in some other form won't find anything particularly worthy of a double-dip, as even the convenience of owning them all on a modern system is undercut by all of the original versions of the games being available on the Sega Genesis Classic collection. Those who don't already own the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games can get them in a neat package in Sonic Origins, with a few extra features to keep them interested after the credits have rolled.

While there are still a few bugs to iron out, Sonic Origins delivers the old-school Sonic experience in its best form yet thanks to a host of new features and quality-of-life improvements.

It may not offer enough to draw in repeat customers, but Sonic Origins is still a solidly put-together package of classic Blue Blur adventures.

Is Sonic Origins the definitive version of Sonic’s earliest adventures? No. It’s missing a number of common features that modern retro compilations and rereleases have made standard. Knuckles in Sonic 3 lacks all of its original music. No Sonic & Knuckles as a standalone experience. Sure, SEGA might make some changes down the line via DLC, but as this collection exists now, it’s lacking in a number of ways. Despite these flaws, however, this quartet of software represents some of the best Sonic games ever made; indeed, some of the best platformers ever made. Fans new to the series will get the most from Sonic Origins, but even diehards will find plenty to love if they can get past the shortcomings. Here’s hoping SEGA eventually returns to Sonic Origins and makes it the proper celebration of the Blue Blur that it should have been.

Sonic Origins, despite its turbulent release and Sega's commercial manoeuvring, is a remarkable compilation exercise that serves as an example in terms of celebrating a legacy. Its updated versions, the preservation of classic titles, the incorporation of new approaches and the inclusion of its museum are what should be the standard for compilations.

Sonic Origins is the best collection of Sonic games around. As ever, the games are accessible and easy to play, and the beautifully animated cutscenes breathe some new life into it.

Sonic Origins could be THE Sonic compilation if only it would offer a wider variety of titles. The presentation is good and the new modes will attract even the most seasoned players.

A compilation of the most classic Sonic games with enough additional content to encourage replayability. Although it may be a bit lame at times, it more than fulfills its purpose.

Sonic Origins is an overall strong collection of some of Sonic’s best titles. The PS5 version seems pretty bug-free, and the included games all play very smoothly. I wish there was a bit more content in the gallery, and the replaced Sonic 3 songs are disappointing, but otherwise, I’m quite satisfied with Sonic Origins.

Sonic Origins contains the best Sonic games ever made but a lack of features, games, and new music holds it back from greatness. If Origins would’ve had more Sonic games in it along with things like save states and a rewind option than it would be a better package. The new music in Sonic 3 is also a letdown when compared to the original tracks. There is still a lot here to love though like the new animated cutscenes, the challenge system, and the new aspect ratio for these games. While Sonic Origins is a fine way to celebrate the series, the blue blur deserves a little bit better after everything he has been through over recent years.

Sonic Origins is a good collection, with a very well implemented job of changing the look of games to something current without leaving them stretched. Still, this mania of always focusing on the same Sonic games in different collections, given that he has a vast list of interesting titles, is starting to get more and more worn out.

Sonic Origins absolutely represents the best way to experience these classic games on modern platforms if you’ve never had the chance before. For people who’ve been here before, though, it’s questionable whether the new content is quite worth the premium price tag, especially with a bunch of surprising new issues.

The Sonic Origins collection offers four classic games with a host of changes that will please newcomers, especially Anniversary mode that supports 4K resolution and 60 frames in full screen, there are many new game modes such as Boss Rush and Mirror, and the ability to replay specific stages to explore what you missed, first-time leaderboards, which helps to maintain its classic spirit and makes it an ideal entry point for those looking to try it out for the first time.

Sonic Origins has done an amazing job to modernize these classic games, and it will be the definitive way we'll play them in the future, but we think that some old school fans of Sonic might doubt if it's worth it.
