Whether having to stare at the ground for extended periods of time, shoot what should've been a hit but inexplicably doesn't leave any blood behind, or even just getting around with an unsteady frame rate and graphical glitches, there's something here to disappoint everybody. Perhaps if you are hardcore into trophy hunting you could extract a droplet of enjoyment out of Way of the Hunter, but doing so will be an uphill battle against the game itself.

Way of the Hunter sacrifices fun for realism, and coupled with some other aggravating elements is a game I cannot recommend

There are people who will enjoy the dedication to making Way of the Hunter an ultra-realistic hunting simulation. Though I fear those people will instead be spending their days actually hunting. If you play video games to get some immersive feel and still have fun doing that thing you wouldn’t normally do in real life, you might not be as appreciative of the dedication to realism. While I fell into the latter camp, I know there are certainly people in the former camp. You’ll have to decide for yourself if Way of the Hunter is for you.

Way Of The Hunter does have potential, however with the high bar set by the Hunter: Call Of The Wild, there is some catching up and improving for it to do

The potential behind Way of the Hunter is there to give the likes of the Cabela series a run for its money. It’s just marred with a few too many technical issues that prevent it from being a fun and immersive experience overall. Stuff it and move on to the next quarry instead.

If you are into video games and also enjoy hunting, Way of the Hunter is a dream come true for you, as it's an extremely realistic hunting simulation that narrows everything down to the smallest of details.

The locations are too big and there's not enough animals to hunt. The mechanics are fun when everything works, but it's hard to ignore all the faults.

Like the real thing, Way of the Hunter is a game that rewards patience and persistence. Yet since it doesn’t bog itself down with trying to provide the most realistic experience that’s possible, it’s quite possibly the most accessible hunting game on the market. It’s enjoyable, too, if you’re into this sort of thing, but a lack of polish will pull you out of it from time to time and possibly frustrate. Still, if you’re after a game that lets you wander through the outdoors and occasionally test your shooting skills, this is worth considering.

Way of the Hunter is a game that I should love, and despite the plethora of problems, there are fantastic ideas here and a world that could be incredible if it’s given a lot more attention from Nine Rocks Games. However, it’s not there yet. It’s not even close to where it needs to be, and I’m not talking about the amount of content on offer. There is more than enough game to play here. What holds Way of the Hunter back is that most of it doesn’t feel fully realized or polished. Performance is an issue, bugs are an issue, accessibility is an issue and, in many cases, the quality of the game’s systems are an issue. While I suspect things will improve over time, Way of the Hunter is a long way from where my expectations lie.

Way of the Hunter provides some well balanced hunting mechanics that make it enticing, while at the same time failing to really deliver a satisfying next generation world.

Way of the Hunter provides the authenticity you need to probably have the best virtual hunting experience. Still, it also comes with some baggage, such as a story, which the developer could have placed more emphasis on. When you think about these things, they make the game to be inconsistent overall.

Overall Way of the Hunter isn’t perfect. It has some issues other than the save file(s) such as the limited number of guns and equipment which was a little disappointing. It could have also used things like the scent mask sprays or doe urine to lure in bucks. Also, some of the equipment is licensed and others not. You can however bring along two other friends with you by playing online which was good. With all that in mind, Way of the Hunter is a decent hunting game. While the heavy simulation may not be for everyone, I am sure that with some improvements it could be even better down the line. Let’s just hope that it’s not all locked behind DLC.

Way of the Hunter isn't successful at integrating the realism it promised into the game. If it solves technical problems with further updates, then we'll have a good hunting game that we can spend hours playing. In it's current state, I can't recommend unless you have a deep passion for hunting. But I gotta admit even with optimization issues and game breaking bugs, it's still comforting to watch stunning sights.

Technical issues and an overbearingly bland story sour Way of the Hunter's finer points. Its maps are filled with enchanting scenery, and pumped full of serene atmosphere. The hunting options are surprisingly flexible for newcomers and pros alike. Overall, it's a decent hunting sim if you can push past its messy start.

Way of the Hunter may not have broad appeal, but it succeeds in creating an immersive, realistic experience so that criticism seems misplaced. Currently, it's not the finest hunting game out there, but with little polish, it might easily become the best. You'll have fun here if you like hunting but don't want to deal with the mess and inconvenience of skinning and taxidermizing the animals you kill. Despite certain visual issues, it comprehensively analyzes hunting in the United States.

Way of the Hunter is a good hunting simulator that presents the player with excellent gameplay and full freedom for those who do not want to follow the events of the story. It does not convince, however, on the technical front, with dated graphics, pop-up issues and frame-rate drops regardless it's a current-gen-only game.
