Thymesia is a confident, good-looking Soulslike that arguably ranks among the best of the non-From Software titles in the genre.

Thymesia is not one of the best soulslike games, neither a very compelling one: it tries to overcome its technical limits with a good combat system, but it's not enough to encourage even the die-hard fan of the genre.

A soulsborne that lacks refinement, but manages to entertain thanks to an interesting combat system - even if the challenge is certainly not the most difficult ever to appear in this subgenre.

Thymesia may look like a Bloodborne rip-off, but give it a chance and you’ll find that it has some nifty ideas of its own.

Thymesia draws inspiration from ideas and mechanics from various famous soulslikes to shape its gameplay, resulting in a mix that works quite well. Although visually it is not as solid or impressive as other productions, its aesthetics are quite striking and it has frenetic but tactical combat at the same time. Of course, it needs some adjustments in certain sections, since the collisions and the timing are not polished at all. Funny and entertaining, but nothing that hasn't been seen already.

As a whole, Thymesia feels like a missed opportunity. The plague weapons and unique sense of progression carry its gameplay that can often feel a touch unfinished and forgettable. It’s short and very uneven: just when it’s starting to feel a bit more interesting, it ends in a very unspectacular fashion. If you are foaming for more soulslike games, then I guess that Thymesia can (maybe) be a good time. Even so, I’d strongly recommend grabbing it on sale.

Thymesia is a great souls-like video game done a budget and it not only follows the expected formula to a tee but also puts its own unique spin on combat and leveling which combined make this a very worthwhile experience.

Those desperate for something similar to Bloodborne might find Thymesia worthwhile, but it does little for those looking for a genuinely good experience.

There’s something special about Thymesia, but don’t expect greatness.

A satisfying soulslike action game that delivers quick and rewarding combat that is held back only by its attempts of trying a little too hard to be like other games. Though a relatively short experience, definitely one to try for any fans of the genre.

While Thymesia is certainly lacking in some key departments, the solid control, satisfying combat, moody atmosphere, and compelling challenge are still well worth crowing about.

By now we’re definitely starting to feel the effects of genre fatigue amongst soulslikes. And Thymesia certainly reaches a point where it can’t separate itself from the games that came before. However, there is still a lot of originality in its combat systems and world design so that the game doesn’t feel too derivative. It’s just a shame that clunky controls and awkward bugs hold it back.

Thymesia is a challenging title that is a MUST play for FromSoftware fans, an accomplishment for a debut title from a small studio.

Thymesia has all the ingredients necessary to make for a solid indie Soulslike, but falls short of greatness due to messy implementation of mechanics, bland level design, weak lore, and issues with difficulty balancing.

Thymesia is a humble indie soulsborne that, despite its marked inspirations and forced comparisons with giants like Bloodborne, manages to bring some other details to the genre. It lags behind in many aspects, but it also manages to attract attention through frenetic and fun combat.

Ultimately, you may have walked grimy paths like these many times, but if the Soulslike virus remains lodged in your core as it does in “Thymesia’s,” you should easily become absorbed into its diseased world, never once hoping to be cured.

The game’s terrible parry system, lack of variety in its weapons, and incredibly frustrating feather stun move compound into a game that I struggled to enjoy, despite my best efforts.

Thymesia does more than enough to make its way out of the shadow of Bloodborne. It offers some fun levels to go around killing enemies in, and the combat is fast-paced, responsive, and most importantly, a lot of fun. Even its skill tree has some great ideas. This might not be the game for those who don't like a challenge, but for those who do, Thymesia is excellent.

Thymesia is for anyone who believes that a game like Elden Ring is too accessible or that FromSoftware has lost its edge. It distills the Soulslike formula down to challenge and difficulty, adding a few new mechanics to the familiar staples. Yes, Thymesia is grueling and can be fun for hardcore fans of the genre, but it’s also pretty highly derivative. Unless they’re absolutely brilliant, copycat games almost always make you wish you were playing the original.
