Soul Hackers 2 is a solid turn-based RPG, but it fails to introduce anything new or consolidate all elements of the introduced experience. Fortunately, it features great characterization and a solid plot that keeps us on our toes throughout the game. Fans of Shin Megami Tensei will certainly be able to enjoy it, but overall there are better alternatives.

Set in a cyberpunk setting, with dozens of demons and a big mystery at its center, Soul Hackers 2 attempts to give players a variation on Atlus' classic JRPG formula.

An intriguing story, interesting battle system, and signature art style is usually a good combo, and Soul Hackers 2 is no exception. It is easy to get lost in the story or side-quests and enjoy battling a variety of demons. For anybody enjoying Atlus' other turn-based titles, this is definitely a must-have.

Outside of its wonderful characters, Soul Hackers 2 is mostly just competent. There's fun to be had, but it ultimately feels plain.

A great beginning point for Atlus newcomers, but veterans might be disappointed.

Compared to Persona 5, Atlus delivers equally great characters, solid storytelling, mostly attractive design, and compelling battle and progression systems here, but the content is clearly lighter, the world much less elaborate, and the pacing a bit awkward.

Soul Hackers 2 is an excellent JRPG that Shin Megami Tensei fans and newcomers alike will be able to dive straight into. Though the dungeons are basic and repetitive, the gameplay, characters, and story are all more than enough to keep you riveted. Don’t let Soul Hackers 2 fly under your radar, as it’s one of the year’s best RPGs.

Soul Hackers 2 is a game that compares unfavorably to the recently released SMT V which I consider one of the series best. However, even when viewed on its own merits and nothing else, it falls far short of excellence due to its poor pacing, simplistic combat and endlessly dull dungeon crawling.

Soul Hackers 2 is a solid JRPG that manages to be fun, challenging, but also overly familiar. It’s easy to dismiss it as a Persona clone because of a lot of borrowed elements, but it doesn't take away from it being a fun game despite its lack of originality. The game shines because of its story and characters, both of which are interesting enough to give it a life of its own. You’ll find them endearing during the more lighthearted moments, but at the same time, root for them at their darkest, which will really compel you to see the story through.

Soul Hackers 2 is a decent Japanese role-playing game in the Megami Tensei meta-series, but decent isn't enough when you're competing against titans in your own family.

While not the most innovative of the Shin Megami RPG spin-offs, Soul Hackers 2 is an enjoyable, lengthy, amalgamation of what you'd expect out of these games at this point.

Soul Hackers 2 takes everything that has made the Shin Megami Tensei series beloved and brings it to a mythical cyberpunk world. It hits all the right marks when it comes to being an unforgettable JRPG and cyberpunk experience

My final thought on Soul Hackers 2 is that it was definitely worth the wait for a sequel. You fall in love with the cast instantly and root for them the whole way. While the game has a few snags here and there, you barely notice them. It’s a game to be loved by any JRPG fan and especially of the Persona franchise. So with all that in mind I feel it would be only fair to give Soul Hackers 2 the Thumb Culture Gold Award.

A solid JRPG with an intriguing story and some great combat hindered by some underwhelming dungeons.

Soul Hackers 2 is a little and simple, but very good Shin Megami Tensei game. It is true that it's level design is pretty bland, but it's music, story, combat and characters, are pretty great.

Soul Hackers 2 was an absolute treat. The style on display from every character, location, and demon was fantastic. The story, despite having a basic plot, had incredible characters to back it up. It also knocked several emotional moments out of the park. The deep and engaging combat system with the staggering demon collecting aspect was fun and rewarding. All of this coupled with one of the most unique areas I’ve seen in a game like the Soul Matrix. Which gave me so much to enjoy in my playthrough, despite its annoying design at times, leaving me eager to start again. Soul Hackers 2 is an easy recommendation, even if you have not played a game from Atlus.

Soul Hackers 2 does itself justice as its own independent title heading into the esteemed Shin Megami Tensei legacy, regardless of its pre-determined label as a sequel. [...] a JRPG modern day classic.

Atlus' return to a non-Persona Megaten spin-off after all these years is really exciting and I can easily recommend if you've been waiting for it. But that doesn't change the fact that Soul Hackers 2 hasn't reached its full potential and could have been a much better game.

This might not be the most adventurous of the Shin Megami Tensei games, especially since after Shin Megami Tensei V lived up to the hype, it was a tough band to beat. Yet, Soul Hackers 2 delivers everything I needed in a tidy package.
