Return to Monkey Island lives up to the near thirty year long wait with a modernised take that feels fresh, unique and brand new. Nostalgia naturally fuels a major proportion of its endearing qualities, but the new puzzles, the sumptuous music and the glorious performances bring the series back to life in ways we couldn’t have imagined. An absolutely stellar return for a franchise we thought we’d never see again.
Guybrush is back... again, to thwart the actions of Le Chuck and to learn the secret of Monkey Island!
Ron Gilbert, who started the series, focused on continuing the adventure from Monkey Island 2. You can easily find out that his unique sense of humor remains still to date. Even though there are slight disappoints with art style and ending sequence, it is destined to be moved at the end of the game if you are a fan who shared the long journey of this franchise.

Nowadays, it's very scarce to see a game developed fully with love and passion. Return to Monkey Island is one of these scarce games. If you want to spend some time away from competitive games or Big AAA games, Return to Monkey Island is a good choice.

Return to Monkey Island is a love letter to the franchise and adventure games in general. It succeeds at what it set out to do from the outset, with a fun story, clever puzzles, and a big pinch of nostalgia to top it all off. It may play it a bit too safe, but that's easily forgotten when the rest of the experience is so consistently delightful.
Return to Monkey Island is the "big" dot in a "small", sweet franchise of our memories. Monkey Island has grown within us, grown with us. These aren't games that can easily captivate anyone today. A little poorer than what one expects from a finale, a little special in its aesthetics, but at least it's as crazy, as innocent and as clever as before. So I say goodbye to the most beautiful memory of my childhood with a tear and a smile. See you at sea old friend Guybrush…

Return to Monkey Island is an enjoyable game that I will definitely be telling my nephews and niece to play. It left me wanting more and now that the introduction is over, the next installment should provide the story progression that I was hoping for with this one. If nothing else this game will serve as a reminder to never say never. Ordinarily when a small company is bought out by a multibillion dollar conglomerate it usually goes quietly into the night never to be heard from again. The fact that this game was made at all is a truly remarkable accomplishment. Terrible Toybox and Devolver Digital have overcome the impossible and opened the door for more. Until then might I suggest playing through the entire original series as well as befriending the three headed monkey that’s behind you.
Return to Monkey Island is pretty much as perfect a sequel to such a series of classic games as one can get.
Return to Monkey Island is what it was meant to be. Art, sound, dialogue; it's all part of its blend of playable and communicative talent. It's perfect again.

They say you can't go home again, and there are few wells more daunting to return to than Monkey Island. But with Gilbert at the helm and Grossman by his side, Return to Monkey Island really is the full monkey.
Return to Monkey Island shows there is a place for this style of game in the gaming world of 2022 for both new players and returning ones, Point and click games do not have to be pocking stuffed puzzlers, but they still can be at the same time. At its heart, the Witt and humour of the series shine through no matter how you are experiencing the game, and it is in this versatility the work of Ron Gilbert and Terrible Toybox shines through indeed.
Return to Monkey Island is a competent nostalgia-filled ride for loyal fans.

Return to Monkey Island is a brilliantly modernised point-and-click adventure game that's tailor-made for both fans of its classic predecessors and anyone who loves narrative-driven exploration titles.
Return to Monkey Island feels like a real celebration of the series so far by including characters, locations such as Melee and Monkey Islands and plenty of callbacks, but expanding on all of those things with plenty of brand new components to act as a worthwhile celebration and sendoff for Guybrush and his adventures. Guybrush continues to be an engaging, hilarious and believable character that really helps immerse you into the story of himself and his fellow adventurers. The ending may be hit or miss with some fans but will certainly promote discussion and it’s just great to see a new Monkey Island game in 2022. Whether you’re new or existing fan, Guybrush’s latest adventure is well worth experiencing.
The creators knew they couldn’t make this the game all players wanted, so they instead made the version of the game that interested them, hoping many players would find it just as interesting. I can only speak for myself, but I definitely did. Return to Monkey Island is consistently funny, with a ton of charm and interesting puzzles to work through. The interface is the best in the series, and it’s incredibly well-paced. It may not be what every fan of the series has hoped for, but I think those who can look at it for what it is rather than what they might have hoped it would be will have a wonderful time with it.

Not only has it retained the spirit of the series, it also has cleverly paid homage to previous titles and incorporated them into the canon. We can't thank Ron Gilbert, Dave Grossman and all of their teammates enough for making a 30-year-old dream come true.
