Acme Gamestudio has delivered an incredible debut with Asterigos: Curse of the Stars. If like me, you’ve been suffering from Souls-like burnout, this might be the game for you. It’s gorgeous to look at, constantly engaging and an absolute joy to play. Asterigos is not just one of the best indie games I’ve played this year, but one of the best, most complete games I’ve played in a long time, indie or otherwise. It’s an outstanding, honest-to-goodness adventure made with love, sincerity and attention to detail. It is incredible; play it.

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is a triumph, a title of such confidence and quality that it feels like the work of a veteran studio, rather than a studio trying its hand at the genre for the first time. With a truly flexible combat system, an engaging and deep narrative, and a gorgeous visual style that makes the most of its Greek and Roman inspirations, Asterigos: Curse of the Stars easily overcomes any minor criticisms that can be raised against the slightly lacking level design and quality of life issues. Even if you’re like me, and felt like you had already had your fill of Souls-likes for 2022, give Asterigos: Curse of the Stars a chance, and you’ll likely find yourself falling in love with the genre all over again.

Very few indie games have quantity and quality that can match those of triple A titles, but Asterigos: Curse of the Stars definitely makes the cut. This is an outstanding first project from Acme Gamestudio and I can't wait to see what's next for them. What you'll find here is a polished narrative-driven Souls-like adventure held back only by some frustrating design choices.

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is the perfect mix between Souls and hack & slash. I would have liked that the formula of the first one had been respected more in some aspects, but due to its variety of enemies, scenarios and the different weapons to use, Asterigos leaves a great taste in the mouth, becoming one of the best soul-slashes I've ever played. in this last year.

Despite its difficulty not fitting the soulslike expectation, Asterigos: Curse of the Stars manages to be a phenomenal entry, as long as you don't come in expecting challenging gameplay.

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is just plain fun. It's a solid, enjoyable and well put-together action-adventure game where my biggest complaints are largely nitpicks and a few qualms about the exploration. Sure, you can point to various things it was inspired by, but it manages to stand out on its own merits, and it's an enjoyable experience. The distinct art style and combat help it define itself, and the story is engaging enough to keep you interested. It's well worth a look if the concept remotely interests you.

Due to its launch proximity to Elden Ring and the sheer quality of AAA Soulslikes, I suspect Asterigos may be unfairly overlooked. Nonetheless, it is a resoundingly enjoyable experience that I would recommend to any Soulslike fan.

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars uses the Souls template in a unique way that is more open to everyone. Not everything is good but my respect for this new developer is very high. At times the world is beautiful and the battles are also memorable, finding your own fighting style is also a fun activity and quite inspiring too.

But I think that on balance, the whole thing works out to the game’s favor. This is definitely a title made with a lot of love and attention to detail, and while it’s hardly a flawless production, I think it’s worth checking out for people who sit on either side of the fence. If you’ve always wanted to love a Soulslike title but never quite got there, this might help get you over the hump; if you love them but don’t mind something being a bit more Souls-lite, this will delight you. It’s not going to make it on to my short list of worthy Game of the Year contenders, but it’s a solid outing all around, and that’s not nothing.

Though my initial expectation was modest, I admit Asterigos: Curse of the Stars surprised me a lot. The action RPG genre is one of the most popular in recent times but the game managed to have its own personality. Combat is fun, the visual style is enchanting and the adventure thrilling. As an indie, the production ended up lacking in a few areas but nothing that compromises the package as a whole. In fact, the variety of resources to deal with battles is just as good as any other [good action RPG] games. If you're a fan of the Souls genre, this is a good option for your library; if you aren't, it is still a great entrypoint into a challenging yet equally rewarding world.

Acme Gamestudio and tinyBuild’s Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is a solid adventure. Not simply following the standard Soulslike formula, they’ve gone and made it their own and have given us both the mysteries of the past as well as a solid journey in the present.

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is a solid action-adventure. It's easier than it seems at first sight and a few flaws with controls but overall I had a lot of fun with it.

An action-RPG without unnecessary frills, perhaps a bit anonymous and derivative, but with ideas capable of creating sparkling and noteworthy gameplay.

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars offers an enjoyable formula with exploration and combat that'll keep you hooked as you forge your way ahead. With that in mind, it could certainly use a clearer sense of direction even if it was implemented via an accessibility option.

Nevertheless, "Asterigos: Curse of the Stars" offers a surprisingly round gaming experience, especially in its price segment and genre, which does not knock anyone's socks off, but also does not deeply disappoint anyone.
