LEGO Bricktales fails to live up to its potential. The game’s building mechanic is really tedious and annoying. The LEGO pieces are often difficult to maneuver into specific positions and the controls are quite awkward. The level exploration is bland and the narrative is simplistic and uninteresting. Overall LEGO Bricktails is a real disappointment and not worth the time investment.

A nice-looking little game, and the idea of solving puzzles by building things out of LEGO bricks is great. However, LEGO Bricktales simply lacks in story and almost everything else that could have made it a more interesting product. Here's to hoping that the idea gets revisited and improved in the future.

Being fans of LEGO and puzzle games, we wanted to love LEGO Bricktales. We’ve found it very hard to do so, however. Crashes are one thing, but when the gameplay itself is hampered by fiddly controls and the feeling of repetition, there’s not a great deal of fun to be had.

LEGO Bricktales scores where it matters most, and that's good. It's just a shame that it's a title wrapped around mediocre content that doesn't always work in its favor.

Overall, Lego Bricktales is one of the closest LEGO building experiences I’ve come across, with something like LEGO Worlds in that same camp. With the added collectibles to find and the presented story, it gives this game some fun bits to do outside of the actual building. The game could be fun for a younger audience, but with the lack of voice acting and the physics puzzle possibly being a little too advanced, this is more of an older LEGO enthusiast’s adventure. Regardless it’s still a fun time to be had.

A creative adventure puzzle game that leans into what makes LEGO so great, LEGO Bricktales is a fun and imaginative title. The PS5 version is a little unstable right now, crashing often in certain areas, making it feel a few bricks short of completion. With a patch though, this could be the most creative LEGO game to date.

LEGO Brickstales captures the fun and creativity of LEGO really well. Unfortunately, this fun but flawed construction-based puzzle game struggles to live up to the potential it shows in its first few hours. ‍

Lego Bricktales isn't perfect, but it offers up a refreshingly unique experience relative to the litany of action platformers based on licensed IP we've been getting for nearly two decades now. We sincerely appreciated the focus on low-stress building puzzles that encourage and reward creative solutions. It's the kind of game that you just take at your own pace and lose yourself for a bit to the relaxing tunes and simple act of building. It's a shame, then, that awkward controls hamper your creativity and hold it back from greatness. Couple that with performance issues on Switch, and we'd recommend playing on PC if you can. Still, Bricktales is the closest thing in years that a Lego video game has gotten to the actual feeling of playing with Lego, and those of you who appreciate the famous toy will find something to love here.

Developer ClockStone gave this a good effort, but there wasn't enough in LEGO Bricktales to keep me feeling interested. Even the story, which is typically a franchise strong suit felt underwhelming with half-hearted humor and nothing really memorable. That's not to say there isn't a foundation for something better in the future. The concept of using LEGO building to progress and doing it in your own way is a strong one, but without better tools, like blueprints and the like, the novelty wears off quickly. For now, LEGO Bricktales is a fun curiosity and little more than that.

LEGO Bricktales is a breath of fresh air for LEGO fans who are burnt out by grand open worlds of superheroes and Skywalkers. The visuals are great, the sound design is fun, and the worlds are a joy to explore. However, there are just too many issues to ignore; the camera, Rusty's AI, and the core building controls are bad enough at the start of the game, but they get much worse as more complex builds and uniquely shaped bricks are introduced later on.

There’s a lot of cool ideas in LEGO® Bricktales, and builders of the amateur and master levels can find enjoyment in this. The biggest flaw is the UI when it comes to building in the Z-axis. However, if you can power through this, or you’re on PC, this will be a breath of fresh air for brick lovers.

Although it is a simple game with many flaws, it brings exactly what is needed in a LEGO game, which is the eternal fun of building models with the pieces in order to accomplish the extremely creative puzzles that LEGO Bricktales contains.

The of Lego Bricktales is solid and simple. It is that you can feel the joy of assembling Lego by playing a videogame. Also, it is highly immersive! However, even though it is a game that requires assembly, there are many aspects that are lacking in terms of convenience and controls.

LEGO Bricktales cleverly combines familiar LEGO construction play patterns with an all-new exploratory experience. Although the exploration segments feel a bit too aged-down for this tired millennial’s tastes, the construction is delightfully challenging and exactly what I would have hoped to see in a LEGO game. If you want great LEGO prompts and don’t mind extremely linear (yet still charming) storytelling or are a literal child, LEGO Bricktales is here to unlock your wildest imaginations.

LEGO Bricktales brings the LEGO building experience to a game format, and one that's accessible and welcoming to a wide segment of the audience. While the game does feature a structuring plot and some exploration, it's the building that's the star here, and LEGO Bricktales does a good job at presenting a fun building challenge that's worthy of the LEGO name and fame.

LEGO Bricktales is still a fun time to be had. Whether it's the soft-but-distinct "click" sound you hear when you're piecing LEGO bricks together, or you spend way too much time with a puzzle you solved hours ago because you want to stack it up with more vertical bricks, you'll have a ball with this relaxing building simulator.

LEGO Bricktales deserves credit for trying new things and incorporating the core building experience into gameplay, but the game doesn't quite hit the mark when it comes to polish. That said, if you're willing to be patient with it, there is fun to be had. It's just not as direct as putting together an actual LEGO set.

While the normal LEGO games are all about action and cooperation, Bricktales's focus on creativity and puzzle solving makes it feel more grounded than the fantastical LEGO Star Wars and Marvel games. This is a game anyone with an understanding of the toy can pick up and enjoy. While a more mature single player will probably not stick around too long, this is one that families will definitely appreciate on whatever platform they choose to play.

Lego Bricktales doesn't break much new ground, but its satisfying and manageable build experience meshes well with its short-but-sweet world structures to provide an easily digestible and relaxing Lego experience.

LEGO Bricktales is a pleasant creative adventure which allows us to stimolate our ingenuity, but unfortunately its own gameplay stops the game's potential.
