Signalis Reviews
rose-engine has created a heartfelt love letter to retro classic survival horror titles with their debut project Signalis. Despite some frustrations, it conjures up a tense experience from start to finish with its compelling narrative, immaculate atmosphere, and beautiful pixel art.
Signalis is the type of horror game that keeps you hooked from beginning to its true end. The story is told in a confusing way, but the delivery succeeds in keeping you intrigued enough to see its conclusion. Sparse inventory management aside, it achieves a nice balance between puzzles and combat, and even if you figure out that flight is a more formidable strategy than fight, the overall tension and sense of unease remains. For horror fans who want the feel of a bygone classic, Signalis is worth checking out.
Effectively executing all the classic techniques that made the genre popular, but with its own creative storytelling, SIGNALIS is set to be a horror fan favorite for this October, or even long term. Being a solid game, it's hard to point out too many flaws in the experience.

A love letter to horror that was perhaps not suitable for anyone but, precisely for this reason, to be devoured in one go if you like the genre.

If you are a lover of classic survival horror, you will enjoy a great adventure, familiar and at the same time fresh, and that reinvents with enough intelligence all the tropes of the genre: limited inventory, enemies that return, puzzles that invite you to explore... All with a beautiful pixel art and a retrofuturistic entity that they fall in love with.

Signalis is a one-of-a-kind work. Uniquely curated and thorough, it tells a moving and detailed story that easily seeps into the player's skin and soul. The puzzles, never complex, are carefully implemented, prompting the player to think carefully about his moves. It is certainly nothing new on the market, but it is a work that faithfully reflects the past, projecting into a future to be discovered.

An engaging story and a disturbing atmosphere are the best features in this game that recalls the gameplay style of classics 90s survival horror. A repetitive combat and bland stealth elements drop its overall value.

A stylish replication of survival horror's roots, which manages to capture and refresh the unsettling horrors of the genre's 90s origins.
Signalis is a nostalgic haunt that knows exactly where it came from but still dares to forge ahead, too.
Signalis is a thought-provoking and atmospheric title that is a genuine standout for fans of the more cerebral elements of survival horror, although one that does require you to look past some of its more dated aspects.
Signalis offers an incredible story with a terrifying atmosphere that is just as much about your surroundings as it is about the creatures.
All in all, this is an astoundingly stylish effort from such a small studio. Signalis is riveting in both the construction of its world and the tense survival horror gameplay it executes so well. Don’t overlook it because of its very late last-gen release: rose-engine’s effort has its feet firmly planted in the future.
All in all, Signalis is an unforgettable and eerie experience. It makes retro survival horror feel new and unique again. Just be prepared for a story with lots of room for interpretation. And the art is still very anime.
A real indie gem inspired by the best survival horror classics.

SIGNALIS never stops feeding you a truly terrifying experience. Something could scare you around every corner, and there's nothing you can do to push that feeling away permanently. Enemies are constantly on the prowl for you and will show up when you least expect it. Loud sounds are rare but pierce through the normally quiet setting. There's a non-stop source of terror and it creates a fantastic horror experience. SIGNALIS' story isn't the strongest, and it could have benefited from investigating characters more often. Although despite the narrative shortcomings, SIGNALIS presents a horror experience you won't soon forget.
While Signalis won't be leading to a full-on fifth-gen survival horror renaissance, if only because some of the genre's past sins still linger, it still delivers an enjoyable adventure that perfectly captures the feel of the classic era while also doubling down on more detailed cosmic horrors and twisted visuals, capped off with some sturdy combat and impressive puzzle design.
Signalis is a true retro survival horror with a unique visual style and a compelling story.

Unique in its presentation, scope and design, SIGNALIS finds itself a seat at the table of an indie movement that's only just reached the peak.
Signalis is a well made survival game that could keep you entertained for a few hours. Despite being an indie game, the quality is impressive and it's definitely worth Playing

Developer rose-engine's debut is a near masterwork in a much-missed mode of horror gaming.
