Treasures is a great choice for series enthusiasts, as traveling across Draconia, riding a Great Sabrecat or flying an Elysium Bird in search of chests containing items capable of causing smiles and nostalgia, is one of the best experiences of the year. For those who are not familiar with the previous works, due to its simplicity and fun, Dragon Quest Treasures is a good gateway to discover this vast and incredible universe.

If you're a fan of Dragon Quest, it's obvious that you're going to want to add it to your collection, and when you play it for the first time you'll probably have a hard time letting go of the controller. For its part, if you are not so used to the franchise, it is likely that you can still enjoy it, since you do not need to be a total connoisseur of the genre to understand what this spin off is about.

Dragon Quest Treasures is a charismatic action RPG that manages to reflect the sparkle of a great adventure with the innocent look of a child. It is recommended for those who like games focused on exploration and can yield hundreds of hours of fun without compromise.

You'll have a great time playing Dragon Quest Treasures. Despite being a spin-off, recycling music from other installments and being something simple, you will feel that you are facing a title of the saga, with fresh and fun mechanics, thanks to the recruitment of monsters and the search for treasures, in addition to the wonderful translation and designs of Akira Toriyama.

A treasure hunt in the world of Dragon Quest turns out to be a pleasant RPG with simple and affordable mechanics suitable for young and old, especially aimed at those who like to have fun without bothering with overly complex plots. The collecting aspect takes over from a basic combat system, but it remains a very enjoyable game.

If you go in expecting to sink 100 hours into Dragon Quest Treasures or think you'll get the same kind of intricate plot that the series is known for, you'll come away disappointed. However, if you are a younger gamer that is itching for a taste of what a JRPG is like or you just want something laid back to tackle, there is a lot of fun to be had here. Everything you'd expect in a JRPG is in this game, just stripped back to the basics, all adorned with that timeless Dragon Quest charm.

It might not be your usual Dragon Quest adventure, but it’s well worth your time.

It’s a pity that Dragon Quest Treasures is going to be overlooked as a spinoff dumped into the market late in the year, because there’s still in here that the entire industry could learn from. The way that the developers have clearly built an open world around the concept and adventure, rather than the other way around, makes Treasures one of the most meaningfully enjoyable open world experiences this side of the Yakuza series. Yes, the combat is a misfire, but the opportunity to go chill out with and go on grand treasure-hunting expeditions with your favourite Akira Toriyama creations is always going to be irresistable, and this is one of the better opportunities to do just that.

Dragon Quest Treasures is not the console Monsters sequel of my dreams, but it does an excellent job carving its own identity out of this historied IP. It runs great for a Nintendo Switch exclusive, and is absolutely dripping with personality quirks and a whimsically romantic view of treasure hunting.

Dragon Quest Treasures makes up for its straightforward and uninspired combat with a plethora of compelling content and a gameplay loop that will keep you playing for just a bit longer every time. Here’s hoping Square Enix makes a sequel to Treasures that improves upon combat, because that’s all it would take to make it a top-tier spin-off.

Dragon Quest Treasures offers a charming and rewarding experience that’ll keep players entertained as they embark on a treasure hunting escapade. It keeps things relatively simple across both its exploration and combat, but has enough going on with its monster recruiting, treasure hunting, and base building to keep players entertained for hours on end. You can enjoy it at your own pace too, with it certainly standing out as one of the cozier RPGs you can sink your teeth into. It’s just a whole lot of fun to play, and whilst Dragon Quest Treasures doesn’t have the high stakes or depth seen in the one of the mainline entries, it still manages to offer an adventure that lives up to the series’ high standards.

It's a rich and beautiful world to hunt for treasure in, but enjoyable exploration is interrupted by combat that fails to evoke the same sense of wonder.
