Breakers Collection feels like a passion project. It delivers a game that still feels incredibly modern and visceral to a new era of players. When mining its combos and developing its dizzyingly broad array of tactical options, new players will no doubt be surprised by the high bar of Visco's work. While its menu presentation is somewhat less explosive than the game itself, the level of thought that's gone into its modernisation through crucial up-to-date features can't be spoken of highly enough. This kind of treatment should be standard when revisiting bygone classics, yet so often it isn't. Breakers Collection, to that end, gets it very right.

Nevertheless, we like this little collection. As a game, Breakers and its refreshed Breakers Revenge re-release does little to set itself apart from its peers of the era, but its simplistic gameplay and vibrant aesthetic still manages to ensure it’s an entertaining time.

Breakers Collection is a good collection of two relatively unknown fighting games, including extra content like online and gallery modes. The games themselves, Breakers and Breakers Revenge, are good, with simple and enjoyable gameplay.

Let me remind you once more that calling Breakers Collection a collection is an exaggeration. It’s one Neo Geo fighter and an updated version of it, with barely any changes whatsoever. The game itself isn’t bad at all, just pretty generic not only for today’s standards, but even the standards of the Neo Geo system as a whole. There’s little in here that would make Breakers stand out even from the B-tier fighting franchises of the time, like World Heroes or Waku Waku 7.

Solid and definitely have an audience. There could be some hard-to-ignore faults, but the experience is fun.

The Breakers Collection is a pair of highly entertaining fighters with a roster of varied characters with wild, funny, and impressive moves.

Compared to other fighting collections, Breakers Collection has far fewer titles, but the care taken in the port, as well as the various additions that only maximize the original potential, make these two indispensable for those who enjoy the classics of the genre. If you're a fan of 2D punching and spell trading, this duo needs to be in your library.

Breakers Collection is bare bones because there’s not a lot to the Breakers games. They’re mostly fine-fighting games with some balance issues, which stood out on the Neo Geo in the 90s but struggle to do so in 2023 on modern platforms. The new content helps but isn’t enough to make a collection which is barely a collection appealing. I’m glad to see them get a home release because I’m for keeping all games accessible, but they’re not titles I expect to return to regularly, and I expect most fighting game fans will feel the same.

Breakers Collection may not have a ton of content, but it is as comprehensive as you could wish, and is incredibly fun to play.

The Breakers Collection is a lesson in how to bring back games and do it right. The addition of online cross play and a bevy of special features really round out this package. The fact that these games are also of incredible quality doesn’t hurt either. If Street Fighter had not been the juggernaut it was, I feel like this series might still be going. They are really fun to play even with the steep difficulty and anyone who enjoys fighting games owes it to themselves to snag this collection. It is available everywhere and cross play just sweetens the pot.

Still, there are a few quirks in Breakers Collection that need ironing out, and at the end of the day these are two pretty tough Neo Geo fighting games that can be outright hair-pulling in single player, and while the training mode is immensely helpful, I still advise newcomers to approach with some level of caution, and to be wary of how these games will break you until you learn the crazy combo system.

Breakers may not be the most original fighting game franchise around, but it is an extremely solid one that offers some fun spins on its inspirations. If you're willing to give it a break, the Breakers Collection is well worth playing.

A collection that came to avenge the days when Breakers and Breakers Revenge were forgotten. A second chance to enjoy a great fighting game from a distant past, don't hesitate to take it this time.

Breakers Collection is a colourful pixelated 2D fighter that has only four attack buttons to use so it's good for players looking for a brawler that is more simple than other fighting games out there. The second game offers online crossplay for people looking to take on other players around the world, though sometimes it's hard to find matches to play in.
