The Wolf Among Us: Episode 3 - A Crooked Mile Reviews
It's no longer something that is inspiring great enthusiasm or excitement from me, but it's also not something I feel the need to abandon midway through.
It's hard to compare The Wolf Among Us to any of Telltale's previous work, however, so far the series is without a doubt one of the studio's best, but not their finest.
The Wolf Among Us: Episode 3 - A Crooked Mile is a mixed bag. It's certainly the weakest episode of the series to date, but it is still an entertaining story that drives the investigation forwards, closing off some leads and opening up others. While it may not be the most thrilling ride so far it will hopefully serve as a launching point for a strong final two instalments.
A Crooked Mile continues the Fabletown tale in fine form, elevating it above the weaker second chapter and putting it on a par with the first.
The mystery is what drives The Wolf Among Us, with the many colorful characters, suspects, and witnesses encountered along the way heightening the overall experience and imbuing it with undeniable style. But with a two-month layoff, the connections to Episode 2 will seem more tenuous than the storytellers would likely wish. So whether that means players should hold off to play the game through in one extended setting, or simply replay past chapters and refresh their memory, it shows just how distinct The Wolf Among Us is from its zombie colleague.
'A Crooked Mile' is not at the level one has come to expect from Telltale, however, has just enough interesting moments and intrigue, particularly at its end, to keep you interested in what is to come.
The Wolf Among Us: A Crooked Mile isn't as interesting as episode two, but the undeniable charm of the world and the characters is still ever present. This series has not only inspired me to read the Fables comics line, but I'm also emotionally invested in practically all of the characters, and the wait between episodes has become almost unbearable. At this point it wouldn't be a bad decision to go all in if you were on the fence.
While we wanted more answers, episode three of The Wolf Among Us is a thrilling ride. The plodding pace of episode two is replaced in favor of far more drama and action. Though the series has yet to recapture the magic of the first episode, The Wolf Among Us still offers a grim fairy-tale world worth getting lost in.
The Wolf Among Us continues to be Telltale's sharpest and most stylish series to date, with quick witted writing and a visual style which still seeks to impress… and does. (Seriously, why aren't MORE high-def games cel shaded? It looks really good!) Add on to that impressive reveals and a mystery that's building up to something bigger, and it's safe to say that at this point, the whole season is definitely going to be worth following through to the end.
Though it feels a bit shorter than it should be, The Wolf Among Us: Episode 3 - A Crooked Mile offers a great mix of forwarding the plot, developing characters, and some intense action.
Telltale's profanity-laced murder investigation continues to balance the fantastic and the horrific with aplomb, and this episode provides some of the strongest character moments thus far.
There's still plenty to uncover, with two episodes to go, and things are setting up quite nicely for an explosive finale, but don't enter A Crooked Mile expecting to get much in the way of answers. The conclusion will come soon enough but until then, enjoy the bloody, twisted ride.
In for a penny, in for a pound. If you're reading a review of Episode 3, it's likely that you've already played Episodes 1 and 2. A Crooked Mile is a great follow-up to what's come before in Telltale's exploration of Fabletown. The stakes are raised emotionally and physically, and there's the great debut of a new villain for Bigby to contend with.
A Crooked Mile is the most focused episode of Wolf Among Us yet
The Wolf Among Us hits its stride with an electrifying third installment.
If nothing else, Telltale's third episode in the serialized fairytale noir A Crooked Mile certainly knows what it's about.
A Crooked Mile is a great Adventure game episode on its own, but I would consider it weaker than the first two episodes. We made very little progress in this episode and I hope Telltale has something special planned in the next two episodes. I still recommend you guys grabbing it if you don't have the season pass yet.
From the very first episode, I considered Wolf Among Us to be Telltale's finest work yet, and after episode 3, my opinion hasn't changed. Now all that remains is the excruciating wait for episode four.
A Crooked Mile takes the story in interesting new directions, while also giving you more of a say in how and when events pan out
A great comeback from episode two, A Crooked Mile amplifies the drama—though sometimes in the wrong ways—and confronts Bigby with hard choices and proper detective work.
