It's not often that a strategy game manages to be as dynamic and addictive as Company of Heroes 3 - Console Edition. With a good variety of features and fun campaign and multiplayer modes, it's easy to get involved in the competitive battles set in World War II. There are a few problems that make the player's life difficult, but make no mistake: if you're a fan of games that require tactics and planning, preferably seasoned with a good dose of action, then this is a great addition to your library.

Now it's up to you to see if you're willing to sacrifice the visual aspect for the sake of the altar of strategy gaming, a genre underrepresented on home consoles. For the rest, Company of Heroes 3 remains the same game as on PC. An honest but naughty strategy game.

Company of Heroes 3 Console Edition is a good way to enjoy a RTS experience with the controller. The latest Relic Entertainment video game shows several compromises, but the missions give a lot of fun.

Relic’s Company of Heroes 3 makes a surprise landing on consoles with a port that makes smart use of controller shortcuts, which help make it stand toe-to-toe with its PC counterpart.

Company of Heroes 3 - Console Edition is a mostly competent port of a very good tactical WWII game, but it still feels like it very much belongs on PC.

Company of Heroes 3 can be an enjoyable romp when you're not dealing with ability overload. Whilst a cookie cutter approach is taken to some missions, the dynamism and the tactical pause system really makes your campaign one of your own making.

The most unfortunate aspect of Company of Heroes 3 Console Edition is the text size, an issue with no solution. The settings have an option to increase cutscene subtitle size, but the same is not available for the many, many text boxes in-game. It frequently makes for a frustrating experience when playing from a couch, and is a constant reminder that Company of Heroes 3 is first and foremost a game built for PC; it's perfectly playable and more than enjoyable on console, but is still often cumbersome and awkward.

Company of Heroes 3 may not always hit the right notes, but as far as RTS console ports go, it doesn't get much better than this.

A more than correct debut of the Company of Heroes franchise on Xbox and further proof that real-time strategy games are not the heritage of PC and can work very well on other platforms with due adaptation work. This third installment of the IP with its classic proposal and its innovative additions can welcome several players to a genre that often seems inaccessible to those who have just ventured into it. Welcome to Xbox, Company of Heroes 3, we were waiting for you.

I do think that if developers want to tackle World War 2 as a subject, they need to go one of two paths. They could take a clinical approach and create a wargames simulator that focuses purely on the strategy. Or they could create a serious commentary that deconstructs and analyses the war. What they should not be doing, however, is presenting the war as a purely entertaining experience. As a work of pure entertainment, Company of Heroes 3 would have been better served tracking a fictional war. However, its quality as a piece of entertainment is undeniable, and for most, that’s going to be all that matters. It also works far better on a console than I would have expected something from the RTS genre to ever do. For those that do find World War 2 to be entertaining, this one’s going to be hard to resist.

Company of Heroes 3 on PS5 is not an ideal way to play this fantastic series. While it manages to keep the gusto of the series alive, fighting with the controls just makes the overall experience a pain.

As more and more strategy games make their way to consoles, Company of Heroes 3: Console Edition brings its unique blend of real-time strategy with deep, tactical combat to a new audience. While the single player campaigns not only offer two vastly different takes on progression and gameplay but varied and exhilarating combat, the multiplayer modes feel like a side offering. Anyone wanting to play this mainly by themselves will have an amazing time, while competitive players should stick to older titles of the series on PC.

For anyone familiar with the series (and the RTS genre itself), Company of Heroes 3 is a solid but flawed entry. For newcomers, getting to grips with the controls and trudging through the patchy Italian campaign might not be worth the price of enlistment. However, if you do learn its intricacies, you're rewarded with fantastic, intense combat. It's a great effort to translate the RTS to console even with one or two issues.

Despite notable slips, such as the technical and visual part, bad interface and unnecessary complexity, Company of Heroes 3 has merits for delivering a good RTS on consoles, being fun and for having a good adaptation to controls.

Though Company of Heroes 3 might lack some polish and its implementation of a console-friendly control system takes a good while to get used to, Relic Entertainment has nonetheless crafted a layered World War II RTS that combines meaningful tactical choices and consequences with compelling street-level strategy that just begs to be revisited time and again. Armchair generals should rejoice.

Needless to say, Company of Heroes 3 marks a triumphant return of the beloved RTS series from Relic. With the tight, tense battles that can be experienced in the linear North African campaign or the more player-driven dynamic campaign remaining the star attraction, further reinforced by the presence of a new layer of strategic considerations, Company of Heroes 3 is headed in the right direction. All it needs now is for the balance to be worked out and technical issues to be eliminated, and this might just be the best entry yet.

Pretty graphics or no, so much of the gameplay of Company of Heroes 3 is flawed in one way or another that it's difficult to recommend it. From campaign-breaking bugs in Italy to the inept AI that renders most Africa maps unsatisfying, the game came out in such a state that it's hard to believe it's part of the same series by the same developer. To the development team's credit, the game has been patched several times since release, but many of the issues persist. There are occasional glimmers of a brilliant game, but with so much of the content damaged by bugs, it is impossible to recommend it over replaying one of the other games of the series.

Although it has its problems, it's a game that can be as addictive as CoH 2 once you get used to it. The single-player mode is a bit shaky, but the multiplayer is promising.

Company of Heroes 3 is a fantastic strategy game regarding the basics. Playing with friends and mining the mechanics will be where most will spend their time, but it is a huge disappointment to see the campaigns fall so flat. The Italian campaign was the place where I expected huge innovations from Relic, but it feels like a paper tiger.
