The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition wishes to be the definitive edition of this planet-trotting RPG, but a buffet of problems ranging from minuscule visual upgrades to performance issues make it anything but.

The Outer Worlds sets a solid, if unspectacular, base that has plenty of room to improve.

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is a weird release. While Xbox owns the developer, Private Division still retains the distribution rights to the first game. Which means the normal free upgrade is not here. Instead we have the definitive version of a great game locked behind some weird monetary decisions. If you never played the original, this is by far the best package available. If you did and are looking to upgrade what is here is nice, but not worth another $60. If you own all the DLC this is a solid $10 upgrade. Still I wish it was more accessible or at least a save transfer existed. It taints an otherwise solid release.

To have this fun and absurd outer space adventure make a comeback in 2023 in a shiny new package is much appreciated, as its medium scope and many varied ways to approach any situation in The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition make it an unforgettable experience. While it is not as sprawling as other sandboxes in the genre, its dense and rich linear narrative with its meaningful sidequests and worthwhile storylines warrant a playthrough.

The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition offers plenty of new, next-gen visual eye candy with a substantial hit to performance. The small upgrade cost is an easy choice for console players coming from last-gen hardware, but PC owners may find it a tougher pill to swallow. Note: The extended issues with the PC version were not known to us during the review process of the PS5 version.

For most, The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is just a $10 upgrade, which makes it an absolute no-brainer purchase for existing owners. If you’re coming to the game completely new, the full price is still very much worth it for an RPG that doesn’t overstay its welcome and offers a varied and unique gameplay experience with familiar yet distinct style. This whole game is textbook Obsidian, but is no less interesting or cool. If you liked what Obsidian did with Fallout: New Vegas , then you’ll be right at home here. The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is the definitive version of the game and it’s DLCs all but in name.

Three-and-a-bit years on, The Outer Worlds still holds up as a fine example of RPG excellence, with choices that actually carry proper weight. On Xbox Series X|S, the Spacer’s Choice Edition looks great, although you can’t help but be left with a nagging feeling that it could be slightly more polished.

While maybe not essential if you've already seen everything there is to see in the game, The Spacer's Choice Edition of The Outer Worlds is a worthy upgrade for players jumping in for the first time or wanting to explore new choices and outcomes in a second or third playthrough. It's a bit of a shaky upgrade in parts, but the overall package is decent value and the core game is still bloody excellent.

Though savagely undercut by performance issues, The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice still remains a stellar RPG and a muscular content offering despite its technical problems. Nonetheless, the unstable framerate coupled with frame pacing issues results in the tarnishing of the definitive version of The Outer Worlds that really should have been so much polished than it is here.

The Outer Worlds is an awesome game, so it's nice to have the option to enjoy it with all the amenities of a new generation of hardware. While the performance is a bit iffy, the visuals really pop, and the updated character models add to your immersion in this imaginative space adventure. It's no surprise we've got a second one on the way, and now you can get ready for the sequel on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in style.

The Outer Worlds is what Obsidian does best, a character-driven RPG that allows you to resolve situations however you see fit. The game's overall quality suffers a little because of the constant irrelevant switching of gears and items that takes the attention. Yet, it's a solid role-playing game where stories and choices matter more than mindless fetch quests. Spacer's Choice Edition is significantly enhanced graphically, and the AI is vastly improved compared to the original.

For sheer memorable and engaging gameplay, I recommend The Outer Worlds. It was an absolute delight to play back in 2019, and it still holds up as one of my all-time favorite gaming experiences. I am pleased with the graphical upgrades and enhancements from The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition. Although, with less new content and more new bugs, it should have been a free upgrade for returning players

The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition proves to be the perfect version for those who haven't been able to enjoy the game and its expansions previously. There's not much to appeal for those who want to return to this universe beyond the expected visual and technical improvements, although there are notable performance issues that would still need attention.

Outer Worlds Spacer's Choice Edition is a good chance for all the people who missed the game when it came out to experience it. Unfortunately, the visual enhancement isn't that good and it has caused some performance issues as well, especially in the PC version of the game. But the original game along with both DLCs is still worth experiencing and you should not miss it if you want a good action RPG with amazing quest design and memorable characters.

The Outer Worlds is a complex, compact sci-fi RPG that should be any spacer's first choice, especially when it is bundled with DLC and quality-of-life upgrades on modern consoles and PC.

The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition is the quintessential The Outer Worlds experience that I've wanted all along for my PS5. With the immense graphical upgrades, Halcyon and the rest of the galaxy look better than ever and visually immerse players in stunning spacescapes while you attempt to navigate a universe that's effectively ruled by corporate overlords. For new players who are also PS5 owners, the Spacer's Choice Edition is a no-brainer given the additional QoL upgrades and the DLC packaged together. However, those who've faithfully done their time in supporting Obsidian and Private Division's franchise from the get go may feel like they've been left in the space dust because of the lack of cross-generation save transfers.

If you’re one of the many gamers who hasn’t played The Outer Worlds before, then now is the time. Given that I’ve scored the base game and its DLCs highly in the past, coupled with the gameplay improvements and a reasonable 60-dollar price point makes, this is the best way to experience all this game has to offer.

The only slice of the public that could still enjoy the complete package and technical improvements is represented by those who only own PS5 or Xbox Series X, but even to the latter we recommend waiting for the first, inevitable price drop and at least a couple of other improvement patches.

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is the ultimate way to experience The Outer Worlds, both as a first-time player or someone who’s re-discovering the game. The added quality-of-life features, such as improved performance and load times, don’t interrupt momentum and allow you to experience the game at its absolute best. That said, there are still concrete issues plaguing The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition as of this writing, so it remains to be seen when these can be addressed. Despite all of the good things that can be said, it is hard to fully recommend a purchase right now until the issues have been resolved.
