A beautifully crafted and hugely enjoyable experience, Quantum Break is a fantastic addition to anyone's library. The lighting effects alone make any arguments about resolution dissipate, with a solid set of unique mechanics and breathtaking set-pieces that keep the game fresh and exciting. Whilst I had some issues streaming the show, the content within is in such good keeping with the game, that it's a minor blip on the radar when all is said and done. Microsoft's flirtation with the world of TV proved to be a bit of a flop, but for the most part, Remedy have somehow managed to nail it.

Quantum Break is an excellent addition to the Xbox One and Windows 10 libraries, telling a deep and well thought-out story that not only takes itself seriously, but offers great entertainment value. But for its brilliance in storytelling it somewhat stumbles in certain aspects of its gameplay design, keeping Quantum Break from reaching its full potential. None the less, Quantum Break for all its problems has been worth the wait, and Remedy has gotten their well-deserved spotlight in the industry with their strong entrance to the current generation.

Mechanically this might not be anything special, even with the time manipulation powers, but the world and story are enough to draw you in. This is a game that knows how to paint an interesting world and immerse you in it, with a good mix of fighting, exploration and branching cinematics.

As an action game it delivers, but it seems to me that the most important thing is that in the end they managed to overcome the challenge of being a simple third-person shooter to become a fantastic audiovisual experience. This is thanks to the good design of the game and its system that forces you to use powers intelligently and creatively.

Quantum Break may fail as a hybrid between series and video game but the playable parts are entertaining, spectacular and the combat system hooks its own. The story is also one of the best we have played.

While Quantum Break exposes the Xbox One's technical limitations, Remedy has crafted a masterpiece that earns its place among the best that the console has to offer. Quantum Break is the first thoroughly unmissable, truly unique console exclusive the Xbox One has. Every single Xbox One and W10 gaming PC owner should pick up this game, and the big-budget publishers out there funding similar cinematic experiences should take note. Quantum Break has permanently altered the way I want to experience storytelling in games.

Is Quantum Break, with its meld of compelling gameplay, strong storyline and high-quality TV series, really the future of gaming? Yes, but maybe it'll be Quantum Break 2 (if there is one) that truly nails it 100%. If they dial back the gorgonzola, the product placement and adjust that cover mechanic, this could have been a perfect game.

Quantum Break is unfortunately not the savior of the Xbox One homeland, a role that I don't think it has ever aspired to. That said, Remedy's new work is excellent from many points of view, particularly when the spotlight is put on the storytelling and the hatching of the characters, two things that the house of Sam Lake can do very well and that here were even more complicated to bring home successfully, given the slippery terrain of temporal paradoxes on which the plot continually rests its foundations. The action phases are also embellished with good ideas, but automatic coverages generate problems too frequently for them not to be taken into account in the judgment phase. I also appreciated the good integration between the parts played and the episodes of the TV series: a combination that almost unexpectedly works great, probably due to the aforementioned experience of Remedy in knowing how to tell good stories, as well as for the skill. of the actors involved.

Quantum Break does almost everything right. The shootings are as fun as they are spectacular, the story entertains you right up to the satisfying finale, little puzzles and skills provide just the right dose of variety, and the presentation sets new standards in cover shooters. However, depending on how you play, the spectacle is over after eight to ten hours - including the TV episodes. But these eight to ten hours are tough, I promise!

As it is, as I said at the beginning: time is the virtue and the problem of experience. The chronological concept feels fresh, but Quantum Break was in the oven for so long, I was expecting a bit more, especially from the decision-making and the show. The transmedia component passes as a distraction or marketing ploy rather than innovation, and what could have been something genuinely unique ended up being good ... nothing more. Remedy took an excessively safe route in several of his decisions and missed opportunities to transcend the game mechanics. Despite that, the action is rewarding and the story clever; more than enough elements to give the game a good grade.

Even though Quantum Break is storytelling, there's no point in writing too much about it in a review. It would reveal too much, reveal facts that are best known for yourself. It is enough to mention that we are dealing with time travel and they are the most important element of this story, influencing not only its shape, but also the core of the game, including the mechanics of clashes with opponents. If you skipped the first paragraph of the review, it's time to catch up on that now and put Remedy's work alongside the more successful examples I've listed.

Just like Alan Wake, Quantum Break launches into choices that will prevent him from being unanimous. For some it will be a title whose frame, staging, narration and artistic direction will be more than enough. For others, more concerned with pure gameplay, a TPS that is certainly pretty, dynamic and spectacular, but which does not manage to exceed some of its promises. Quantum Break does not succeed without fault, but it nevertheless manages to unite video game and cinema with panache, in particular thanks to its well-crafted history and its top actors. And if you were counting on a good series for a warm weekend, know that it can be interactive and of quality.

In conclusion, we are facing a narratively shocking game. I thank Remedy for the courage she has had in adding new features to a genre that I have not enjoyed for a long time. The inclusion of a series in which parts of the story are told is a risky experiment but it has turned out to be a success. Those of us who like this type of video game that are closer to a movie or an American series, will have found in Quantum Break another worthy title to pass through our console. The use of powers allows us to also include some fun, well-run shootouts with lots of action that will also be liked by all those fans of action games and shooters. Defining all the key points of Quantum Break was necessary, because although it is normal for these types of games to have a shorter duration and are somewhat more linear, we do not want anyone to be confused about what this title is. We are in front of an incredible work in the narrative, with errors, with weaker aspects but with a great personality and a taste for risk that has favored them in their decisions.

In the end, the Quantum Break action genre takes a couple of steps further with its specific narrative and its creative combat system - but at the same time a step backwards when it comes to layout. It may not be the big revolution that Remedy was hoping for. The one who gets the gaming medium as accepted as other cultural expressions. But it is at least a convincing first step. Above all, it is further proof that it is possible to create epic and gripping stories as well on a game console as on the big white screen.

As has almost always been true for Remedy productions, Quantum Break is not a game for everyone. Even more clearly than in the past, the Finnish developers focus more on the narrative aspects, first of all telling a story, and limiting the aspects of pure gameplay. However, there is, in Quantum Break, and manages to find an interesting dimension in the use of temporal powers, albeit superficially, between a general heaviness in the character's movements, a neglected (and negligible) upgrade system, a platforming that impresses visually but does not engage the brain in the least, and a limited duration. It remains a great multimedia experiment, a fusion between television serial and videogame unique of its kind, a remarkable test from a technical point of view, and an experience in its own way unprecedented, if only for the unprecedented mix of narrative forms.

A unique experience in terms of the union of a video game and a real series with a story worthy of Hollywood, however the playable part does not reach the level of outstanding in the story and the series.

Quantum Break will not disappoint you. It is a video game with a very well-told story that grows in interest, graphic effects that we have not seen before on consoles and a heart attack sound section. It is not perfect but it is Remedy.
