NBA 2K24 is one of those titles difficult to judge and above all to which to attribute a numerical value that can balance its great playful goals and disappointing greed.

It's hard to be picky when you love basketball and the NBA, and are a regular on NBA 2K's virtual floor. This new edition maintains the same rhythm as its predecessors, with a taste for the demanding and the realistic, reinforced by a few good new features, such as the simplified mode for My NBA, the arrival of the salary cap in MyTeam and significant gameplay improvements.

NBA 2K24 is the most NBA 2K game you could imagine, rocking moderate improvements to gameplay without really providing offering anything exciting enough to entice lapsed fans back onto the court.

NBA 2K24 shows that there is a bigger problem with gaming today. While you can get a good game out there if you decide to make it into a “games as a service” model with the main goal being purchased over skill, the game itself gets lost under an avalanche of hate because of corporate greed. NBA 2K24 is the game that shows this to be true. As a game, NBA 2K24 is the same great game it always is, but the hard push for you to open your wallet hurt the game too much overall… And Michael Jordan is the GOAT.

As good as the basketball can be when you're in the thick of the action, the pervasive presence of microtransactions threatens to ruin the entire appeal of the game's flagship modes. In MyCareer, you're not only all but required to purchase virtual currency to improve your attributes as in the past but now will need to buy a season pass or else run the risk of having your trusty badges regress to the point where they're almost useless. MyTeam's card-collecting mode has a similar pay-to-win framework where you can purchase level rewards or spend what feels like an eternity trying to unlock them instead. Both MyCareer and MyTeam have an offline component to offer some consolation, but taking your skills online will likely have you at a competitive disadvantage against anyone with deep pockets.

NBA 2K24 is, at least on consoles, an interesting product. It is a good chapter that presents some very appreciable innovations. The gameplay system, for example, is perhaps one of the best we've seen over the years, the difficulty in the game is commensurate with the level chosen, player control has improved, and the same goes for the AI.

NBA 2K24's lack of meaningful updates and continued overwhelming presence of microtransactions make it feel like it's going through the motions and doesn't have anything to say.

NBA 2K24 is both an incredible basketball simulator at its best on the court and a game tainted by the glut of microtransactions it tries to sell to players. While all modes deliver plenty of content and are long, long-lasting experiences, their success for the player depends heavily on your tolerance for someone trying to sell you something all the time.

There’s enough enjoyability in the gameplay department to overlook the heavy cloud of microtransactions that’s around every corner of the game

despite delivering a acceptable experience, NBA 2K24 focuses too much on microtransactions and leaves little space for normal progression. and on top of that, it's basically the same game as previous year, with some small additions like Mamba Moments. If you're a die hard fan of basketball, you'll have a blast playing NBA 2K24, but you'll be hardly surprised

Pay-to-win mechanics aside, NBA 2K24 is a solid basketball sim with unrivalled authenticity; just don't expect a huge leap forward from last year's title.

Under normal circumstances, it would be a game I would recommend to any basketball fan with my eyes closed, but now it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth with its monetization model that pushes the limits of tolerance. Still, it's clearly the best basketball game to play right now.

For better or worse, NBA 2K continues to get its way and this year's installment is no exception. If you are an NBA fan looking for a traditional gaming experience to take your favorite team to the top. However, you should know that the full enjoyment of everything that NBA 2K24 offers is limited by its already traditional, and not at all pleasant, transactions.

NBA 2K24 is a solid Basketball sim that offers tons of content, and the new ProPlay animation technology takes the gameplay to a whole new level, making it one of the most complete NBA games we've seen in recent memory.

After Michael Jordan, the main character of the current NBA season is Kobe Bryant. But if you want more changes in game, you will be disappointed. And the fun is still spoiled by microtransactions.

Despite some issues and a weaker entry than last year, there's still plenty to enjoy in NBA 2K24. The gameplay continues to be refined with smart tweaks, and the visuals are among the best in the genre. However, the continued push of microtransactions continues to leave a sour taste, and MyCareer is a disappointment this time out.

NBA 2K24 is the GOAT of Basketball Games. Time and again, 2K have proven that they are fantastic custodians of this license and have paid fantastic respect to legends of the sport, the presentation of the league, and have crafted a real feel of being right on top of the action between the roaring of the crowd and the halftime entertainment. It is easier than ever for new players to onboard, the ProPlay means NBA has never looked or felt better, and outside of a few minor technical hiccups, I have personally never enjoyed an NBA 2K more than 24. However, the microtransaction situation has arguably worsened, and it is harder than ever for those new players to break through or maximise their potential unless they’re willing to pay the price. With an additional two premium tiers on top of Seasons and the fact you can buy cards outright on MyTeam, you can easily spend more in game than on the game itself within a weekend. While this isn’t the only sports game out there that does it, at times NBA 2K24 feels among the worst.

NBA 2K24 features revamped gameplay through ProPLAY and small game mode tweaks that make it a worthwhile upgrade. Not everything is perfect, and there is still so much room for growth in future games, but NBA 2K24 is a promising step forward in a franchise that has been complacent in recent years without any real competition.
