Rainbow Skies is a solid RPG that we've been waiting a long time to play. It started its development during the PlayStation 3 era, and it shows since there are some things here that will remind you of its predecessor, but they don't get in the way of you enjoying this great release. The fact that you get triple cross-buy from it on PS3, PS Vita and PS4 is great since it means millions of PlayStation fans now have a chance to enjoy a huge RPG that we highly recommend you try out. Kudos to Sidequest Studios and eastasiasoft for giving us a great game for the PlayStation family that will be a welcomed addition to all of our collections.

Five years is a long time to wait for a game, and it has the effect of raising expectations considerably. In that sense, the game fell a bit flat for me in some areas because of the long wind up before the story actually kicks off. But once I got over that, Rainbow Skies gave me all the fun I needed from a tactical RPG, and is definitely a game that any fan of the genre should pick up. SideQuest Studios have created another indie gem that will have you sinking dozens of hours into it, and hopefully it won't take another 5 years for a sequel!

Rainbow Skies is a perfect example of a sequel that takes everything from its predecessor and does it better. From the dialog to the various system enhancements and the sheer ease of playing on the platform you want when you want. This is a sequel worth looking into and the best part is that you don’t have to play Rainbow Moon to enjoy it as the adventure itself only references its predecessor in passing meta dialog.

With a large world full of humor and adventure to explore, Rainbow Skies improves upon its predecessor in every way, offering plenty to tactical RPG fans who like their quests a little quirky. A must-have for Disgaea fans.

Great spiritual successor to Rainbow Moon. It's a solid, indie tactical RPG, which offers pure fun whether you have couple of minutes or hours.

It's apologetically grindy, and a time sink for the sake of being a time sink. Most of the time, it's the kind of thing I simply wouldn't enjoy, and yet, somehow for both it and its predecessor, it all comes together to be something I do really enjoy. The purity and simplicity of what drives this game is appealing, and even refreshing, and the perfect thing for a lazy Sunday afternoon, when you just need to clear your head.

Anyone interested in a title that is charming and rewarding to spend huge quantities of time exploring should most assuredly check it out, and while the narrative won’t blow people away, it’s also not constantly forcing itself into the forefront.

A light and fresh title that's a good enough reason for you to dust off your PS Vita and tackle it at your ease.

Rainbow Skies is not only a worthy sequel, but it does what it should, being a better game in everything. Even being repetitive, with some parts of the story that seem to exist just to increase its length and the lack of creativity in mission and dungeon design limiting its success, we still have a very good game here.

Rainbow Skies is an indie old school SRPG hiding a wealth of content behind its charming exterior. Improving upon the Rainbow Moon formula, the game doesn't skimp out on quality or quantity, featuring extensive party management, in-depth combat, a vast world to explore, and a myriad of foes to conquer. Unfortunately, the hundreds of hours of gameplay are not free from tedium and suffer from a lack of variety.

Rainbow Skies is a behemoth of an adventure that could last you hundreds of hours should it get its hooks into you. It’s a vast improvement over its predecessor with a more focused plot and a myriad systems which overlay to provide a deep, tactical adventure. It’s not without flaws but if you’re looking for something light-hearted and accessible while offering a challenge when you want it, you can do a lot, lot worse than Rainbow Skies.

Rainbow Skies is a very interesting option for those who want to take their first steps in the genre. Role and strategy go hand in hand in a more friendly experience than the one we can find in the great exponents of a genre that does not abound in consoles although the decaffeinated history and lack of depth will not convince the most experienced players. A simple, lightweight title that can entertain any user who wants to make his first steps in the genre.

After a week's worth of time spent in Rainbow Skies I have to say that even as someone who is not typically a tactical, turn-based RPG player, I appreciate how much has gone into Rainbow Skies. It definitely scratches that particular itch with great progression mechanics, an intriguing world and story, and some great tactical combat. However, the game's unbalanced pacing in story delivery coupled with some serious "what do I do now" moments hamper this otherwise fun tactical, turn-based RPG.

Rainbow Skies could have been much better if it made exploring the maps less clustered and the pace of the game (and movement) was a bit faster. The combat really needs an overhaul so that fights aren’t taking as long and have less probability of movement errors. Otherwise, it’s a decent game, just a bit too slow. This could be due to the game being available for various PlayStation platforms and by not focusing on more modern hardware, like the PS4 and PS Vita, it feels like it’s possibly been held back.
