It’s throw away humour will appeal to some, but others will find it puerile.

Ultimately, Shadow Warrior 2 is exactly what you might expect based on the prior game. There's not much change or growth from the previous adventure, and the script grows wearisome, but the gameplay is still fast, bloody, and fun.

Shadow Warrior 2 feels hollow

Decidedly old-school but feeling a bit uninspired, Shadow Warrior 2 is fun for some straightforward co-op action. It could have been more but what's there is good enough.

Fun and frantic, but soon grows tiresome

Beautiful cover hides a boring lacking interesting ideas dummy. Maybe for the next game Flying Wild Hog will take into account and fix the numerous plot flaws, and we get more than a fancy benchmark or the ten minute time killer after a hard day.

The grind sets in hard too quickly, only remedied by the fact the game's fairly short. When the game goes gets a little cheaper and you can bring a friend along to play, it'll be a pretty fun way to spend a weekend, but you won't remember it later.

Flying Wild Hog has gone for ‘bigger is better' on Shadow Warrior 2, and occasionally that works. Sadly, there's too much open space and inconsistent combat to make it a memorable return for the puerile Lo Wang. These issues are patched over somewhat by the highly enjoyable co-op, where you get a fair share of chucks out of mowing down hordes of demons with pals.

When Shadow Warrior 2 is firing on all cylinders, it's an enjoyable action-packed experience, but those moments are few and far between in a campaign that's too long for its own good

Shadow Warrior 2 is finally out on consoles but it is not a smooth transition. While the base game is solid and still holds well from the original PC release, the console port is buggy and the long load times and technical issues can get in the way of enjoying the game.

Get the game, but don't expect it to be like Borderlands or any other modern shooter. Visuals aside, this plays very much like the 90s FPS that inspired it, and while that's a good thing, we're nowadays more accustomed to a bit more complexity and variety in the genre.

The ability to dash around each enemy individually and slice them to pieces using the wonderfully hilarious procedural gore system is endlessly satisfying.

If you've got a PC that can handle it, Shadow Warrior 2 is a fantastic bloody game. If you love yourself a good, over-the-top action video game that brings to mind the ridiculous (but enjoyable) action flicks of the 70's and 80's, then the Shadow Warrior franchise is not to be missed.

Improvements to combat and a raft of new visual gags don't make up for Shadow Warrior 2's flaccid story and aimless levels.

Whenever I wasn't killing things I was bored out of my mind, as Shadow Warrior 2 offers no reason to explore or do anything but follow the objective marker through all-over-the-place levels. It's just fun enough to hit a 7, but could and should've been so much more and any fans of the first game planning on playing it single player will be hugely disappointed.

If you're in the market for simple, viscera-packed thrills, then you could do a lot worse than Shadow Warrior 2. Yes, it's a bit repetitive (it's getting repetitive writing the word 'repetitive'), but it's also a lot of fun.

Brilliant in hour-long doses, Shadow Warrior 2 doesn't have the depth or variety in its core gameplay to hold your interest for hours at a time. The procedurally generated levels affect the flow and pacing of the missions, while all those ultra-violent battles become samey after a while.

It's the case of a small issue that turned rampant and hindered my play experience, but Shadow Warrior 2 is such a fast-paced, irresponsible, chaotic joy ride, that the mental pain I had to deal with from this annoying decision was well worth it in the end.

Shadow Warrior 2's excellent combat mechanics cleave through its weak story and over-abundance of iffy loot. The result is a title that's incredibly satisfying to play, almost in spite of the surrounding flaws.
