Luckily, Starpoint Gemini 2 has Steam Workshop support, and I've already found mods that fix a lot of my major griefs. For the purpose of this review, however, I played without add-ons.

Starpoint Gemini 2 is an impressive fusion of space sim, RPG and lumbering capital ship combat, resulting in a fiercely unique experience that's a joy to dip in to. Awful voice acting and difficulty spikes mar an otherwise serviceable campaign, but the real fun is to be found tooling around the galaxy in freeroam and graduating from garbage scow to fleet commander.

Ultimately Starpoint Gemini 2 will appeal to a certain niche of gamer. Fans of space sims with a large dose of RPG will appreciate this game for what its worth.

Maybe Starpoint Gemini 2's universe doesn't always feel as alive as it could, but it's still an enjoyable place to spend your time.

The game offers so much for players interested in a deep experience guaranteed to take hours to complete. I think it shines more in the free roam aspect where you can set your own path, but there's so much to do.

Starpoint Gemini 2 is difficult to get into, and I wish the narrative had been more interesting as well. However, the ability to play the game several different ways while reaching out and exploring a beautiful, expansive space helps to make the investment of time worth it. It is great to see a game like this coming to console, as the genre is far better represented on PC.

Starpoint Gemini 2 is a very solid entry in the space simulation genre and a dedicated gamer can spend tens of hours exploring every area of the included Gemini sector, finding cool secrets and battling a range of enemies, some capable and some not.

Starpoint Gemini 2 isn't the most profound release in a genre that's been promising some imagination inspiring experiences in the near future. Even so, the fog of war of its vast map begs me to clear it, hiding ships and upgrades that I just need to collect. There are a lot of toys here to play with, even if the world around them is somewhat simplistic, but that might just be enough to keep me occupied for another 20 hours.

Don't bother buying unless you already know you'll love it. It's a hard game to judge, but most people are better off going for something more entertaining, or at least getting it on PC. Starpoint Gemini 2 could be great, but probably won't be.

Get beyond the complicated controls and mechanics, and Starpoint Gemini 2 turns out to be a mostly enjoyable voyage across the far reaches of space. The price tag is a little steep given the dated style and presentation of the game, but there's no shortage of content if you're in the market for a steadily-paced and involving space sim.

Starpoint Gemini 2 is sort of like a modern version of Freelancer, but the galaxy's looking pretty lifeless these days.

First off, it should be noted that a 6 is not a bad score and puts Starpoint Gemini 2 above average. With that said, this game has a huge amount of potential, but if it is worth the work to reach said potential is of question. Even upon reaching such a level it is debatable if it may be of value, but the journey to get there will be long and interesting. Beyond its tedium the game does not falter anywhere and offers enough depth to be more than deserving of a good score.

Starpoint Gemini 2 is a big game, with a lot to do and many missions to undertake. The somewhat unpolished nature of the grind won't be to a lot of people's taste. If you can look past the issues that we've raised in the review, can get past the somewhat steep £28 asking price and like space exploration, Starpoint Gemini 2 might be right up your space lane. It probably isn't going to drag many non-fans in, though.

It's simple to just say that Starpoint Gemini 2 isn't for everyone, but there are fundamental issues that really make this game utterly impenetrable. The presentation is generally of a good standard, and though the performance falters at inconvenient moments, it's how the game deals with teaching players how things work that's most disappointing. We've seen space simulations that work on consoles, but this particular trade isn't worth what they're offering.
