Assassin's Creed Chronicles features a generally solid game engine, nice storyline, and is for all intents and purposes a decent proposition. However, it's constantly prevented from shining by some dire level design and so many instant deaths that if you counted them, would probably see you reaching triple digits by the time you complete the game for the first time. There's some enjoyment to be had here, but it's frequently punctuated by massive bouts of frustration. If you want to try the series, you should grab China, since it remains the best of the three.

Sadly, Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia fell below the bar that ACC: China set. The game definitely had some great potential, especially with the new gadgets, sniping, and bringing in a second character, but the execution ultimately collapsed in the end, unless you're willing to master each and every skill. The push for perfection is perhaps a speedrunner's dream, but it's not something that will sit well with most players.

Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia ends the trilogy on a higher note, managing to add a few new things and improvements over the last two installments. Unfortunately, it still falls of short of really impressing fans. The exploration is still a bit stiff, the combat is clunky while the timed sections are a pain to get through.

It's different, it's creative, it's stark, and I loved every second of it. I do hope that the trilogy has been enough of a commercial success that Climax can be recruited to build more of these, because I do love the modus operandi; taking more "obscure" periods of history and then using them to frame Assassin's Creed games that simply wouldn't happen otherwise is something that I think is very worthy.

The best entry out of all 3, as the emphasis is more on stealth and there is more freedom, but it still suffers from weak combat and AI, and it's easy to fail missions making for a sometimes frustrating experience.

At this point you've seen the best this series has to offer and if you haven't, then I would suggest playing ACC China and leaving it at that. Unless you're a dedicated fan, Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia is not worth your time or money.

Plainly put, ACC Russia is just not enjoyable on the whole.

While it tells a complex narrative and incorporates some fun new gameplay elements, Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia is held back by its inability to maintain static entertainment.

Assassin's Creed Chronicles Russia is a reasonably fun game that fans of the series should be able to enjoy.

A lovely art style and occasional bouts of the fun that the past games had doesn't make up for Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia's many pitfalls.

Clunky, frustrating and a world away from the series best efforts, Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia limps over the finish line, completing a spin-off trilogy and closing the door on a concept that simply deserved better.

Assassin's Creed Chronicles Russia is probably the weaker game in the series so far and that's not to say that gameplay is flawed. Rather, the protagonist of Nikolai and the story is a little lacklustre but given the price, it's still an enjoyable experience on the PS4 that allows gamers to experience another part of the bigger Assassin's Creed mythology.

A satisfying blend of action, stealth and Russian history, undone by a frustratingly stupid difficulty spike that makes it a red menace.

Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia is the best entry in this mini-series. The story is the most intriguing, and there are finally some new mechanics that add to the gameplay. The core of the game, however, is still unfortunately flawed. Enemies are hilariously stupid, chase/escape sequences require timing that is too precise for such a clunky control scheme, and checkpoints can be frustratingly sparse. While the stylized look and feel is a standout for this entry, ACCR doesn't do quite enough to its core to improve by much. If you've enjoyed your time with the Chronicles series, then let Russia serve as a nightcap: good as a finish to the evening, but too much of anything is liable to upset you.

Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia continues the Chronicles series' tradition of stealth mediocrity, offering up a handful of uneventful 2D side-scrolling missions. As usual, the visuals are nice and the mechanics are solid, but assassinating people should never be this tedious.

While Assassin's Creed Chronicles Russia isn't quite up there with the best adventures in the series, it's still the best release in the trilogy, thanks to its moody settings, its acceptable range of gameplay and its fun storytelling. You'll definitely have more fun with this one than you would the previous two games. Might as well finish up in style, right?

Shortcomings that haunt the entire series remain here, but more gameplay choices and a compelling narrative make Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia the strongest of the three Chronicles titles.

Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia Marx the end of the ill-fated Chronicles series, but instead of making a final stand, Climax's latest treads water. While the visual style is pleasant and the atmosphere is strong, attempts to inject the game with innovation fall flatter than the Berlin Wall in 1990, and the title hasn't really got much to offer to fans old or new in terms of stealth or combat. There are far better Assassin's Creed games and far better platformers, so this spin-off has nowhere else to go but the gulag.
