Mother Russia Bleeds is a bloody and charming affair. It is Splatterhouse by way of David Fincher. I wanted more when it was done. Devolver Digital and Le Cartel studio have laid the groundwork for a stylish and brutal world. Whether you are a fan of beat em ups or just good old fashioned violence, this is sure to scratch that itch for you. I went into this thinking it would be like Hotline Miami but in a different genre. Then I beat a pig to death with my bare hands. What I came away with was an experience produced by a company that knows its strengths without being afraid to try something new and for the most part, it works very well.

A debauchery-fueled beat 'em up with plenty of ways to cripple your enemies, its excessive violence never overshadows the smart and intuitive combat.

Mother Russia Bleeds is an unapologetically offensive but well-executed brawler that on its face, only a mother could love. If you enjoy the violent or obscene, aren't squeamish, and are looking to bust skulls with reckless abandon, it's one of the better playing and looking offerings on Switch today.

I certainly have a soft spot for the beat 'em ups, and I'm happy to report that Le Cartel's debut release is one of the best ones I've played in my nearly thirty year love affair with the genre. It's a bone-breaking homage to such classics as Final Fight and Streets of Rage that's guaranteed to both shock and entertain. Whether you're diving in solo or teaming up with friends or paint Russia red, Mother Russia Bleeds is a damn good time, and a masterclass brawler that deserves a spot in your library.

Blood, guts, and broken bones are a vital part of Mother Russia Bleeds, as despite it’s old school visual facade, it is an extremely gory title. And, contrary to popular belief, that’s good, very good in fact. Gore which accompanies the violence that is present throughout this Soviet journey, is the backbone of the the title, as it is the thing which allows Mother Russia Bleeds to stand amongst other slouching, half-baked indie products. And ultimately, gore is the final piece of the puzzle which makes Mother Russia Bleeds whole. However, the puzzle despite its completion, is lacking in some sections, as the story of Mother Russia Bleeds gets constantly lost amongst all the blood, screams, and chaos. And that is what some may find disappointing, as many will see Mother Russia Bleeds‘ story mode as nothing more than an extension to the arena mode.

Despite being a little over the top at times, violence-wise, Mother Russia Bleeds is a fantastic brawler at it's core. Addicting gameplay with a classic look, this one should keep you and your friends entertained time and time again, just like the classic beat'em ups of the past.

Mother Russia Bleeds presents itsels as solid Brawler that maybe don't really offer the challenge that you would expect from the genre but the high Level on brutality in the story and gameplay will definitely get you and up to 3 friends hooked.

All in all I’d say that Mother Russia Bleeds is likely a game best left to genre fans due to its level of violence and difficulty. In general just about anything else will be a milder experience, or at least not as excessive. That said, if you’re someone who loves a tough beat-em-up experience I’d say this is pretty well a must-buy for doing the genre proud with challenging gameplay and quite a number of surprises along the way. If you’ve been bemoaning the same old same old in brawlers get ready for a kick in the teeth with Mother Russia Bleeds, it’s hardly ordinary.

Mother Russia Bleeds is a really interesting premise with a fantastic setting that delivers excellent combat. Le Cartel's vision of a brawler in 2016 with a retro aesthetic is executed beautifully for Mother Russia Bleeds to be one of the best beat'em ups in recent years.

Mother Russia Bleeds is like melting Takashi Miike cinema with tumblr and Hotline Miami. A nice beat'em up with a bloody aesthetic and a nice gameplay.

Overall, Mother Russia Bleeds is a fun single player/multiplayer beat 'em up on PlayStation 4. It's a bit on the gruesome and bloody side of the genre, but it's a fun ride while it lasts. Being able to take on the game on your own or with up to three other players makes it a great option on Sony's console, so if you've been looking for a beat 'em up with a good balance between the old and the new, you should give this one a try.

Mother Russia Bleeds is a welcome addition to a genre that has been forgotten for decades. Its combat is fun and brutal but be warned It's a game that will drive you up the walls and probably see you break your controller, hopefully you won't break it of your friends head if he's sitting next to you.
