If you're looking for something that will challenge you and twist your brain into knots, this game isn't it. There's no real skill curve, and most of the puzzles are simple enough that you can more or less accidentally stumble on the solutions, with a few rare exceptions. But I assure you that from the first moment you tip something into that hole and see it grow, you'll be hooked. You'll want to consume everything, making the void of consumption grow ever larger. No, I'm not talking about getting addicted to Twitter or Reddit. I'm talking about Donut County. It's brilliant, it's charming, and it's simple, but I would never call this hole shallow. It holds a depth in its tranquil destruction, a surprisingly refreshing and unique experience, on the (w)hole.
Donut County posits a world where raccoons crave not only trash, but also apocalyptic profit. This manifests into a physics adventure game with a primary mechanic of expanding the size of a trash-swallowing hole that also swallows everything else. Donut County is a meditation on greed interrupted by a mischievous heartbeat, which is probably what you want from some sentient raccoons outfitted with preposterous technology.
Although it's a short experience, Donut County is enjoyable. The base desire to see everything destroyed by a simple, ever-expanding hole overtakes the lack of complicated mechanics, and the story is fun, whether you want something with or without some meaning attached. At the very least, Donut County is an experience that will stick with you for some time.
Donut County is a very pleasant and fun experience, that was undoubtedly a labour of love from its creator. Some flaws, though, prevent it from being an excellent game.

Donut County is a short, entertaining tale of a trash panda who just wants a sweet quadcopter.
The story was kind of wacky, it made me laugh, and it had a kind of moral to it in the end. It's not heavy moralizing, but it makes you think about whether you really should be tossing out so much trash for a donut hole to collect. I wished the story was longer and the game had more things to do besides capturing things in a hole. But the story was lighthearted and the gameplay was fun. If you don't have high expectations, I think you'll find Donut County is a nice diversion.
The perfect way to pass a couple of hours, but it will leave you craving more game and a box of Krispy Kremes.
Katamari-likes are not quite a genre, but Donut County makes a case that it should be. Its inspiration is clear, and it takes the toy-like nature of its vision farther with a resonate message at its center. Moving around a hole and consuming all the low-poly things that lie in your path never really gets old from a mechanical perspective, even if the scripted scenarios do upon a replay from its level select. Donut County may not only make you hungry for donuts, it'll make you hungry for supporting your local family-run shops too.
Donut County is as charming and funny as it is inventive and beautiful. It excels at what it sets out to do --there's never been a better hole simulator in video game history. But underneath its colorful scenery and intuitive gameplay is an experience that feels like its inches away from true greatness.

Though short in duration and hardly taxing, Donut County wins over with buckets of charm and some of the most relaxed gameplay money can buy. As such, Donut County is a compelling, nigh essential stop on the gaming journey for any self-respecting PS4 owner.
Donut County is a wholly enjoyable romp that can be powered through in an afternoon, but it's worth going back to try and find some of it's hidden or not so hidden secrets, even if there are only a few of them to begin with.
Donut County is a charming and straightforward example of how video games don't need to be overly complex or contain multiple mechanics and systems to make for a good time. While your enjoyment of the game will likely depend on how satisfying you find its overall loop of dropping stuff into a hole, if this does click with you, then there's a lot that you'll love. For the low price of entry, Donut County is worth picking up and spending an evening with just to have a good chuckle.
