Mafia: The Old Country could easily have been phoned in but the effort is evident - it sincerely does its best, and its best is good enough. Will it make a huge mark on history? Unlikely. Is its “pseudopen” world a vestigial albatross? Absolutely. Did I enjoy it? Perfectly adequately.

Mafia The Old Country comes across as an anachronistic work: it tells a well-written story in a fascinating world, but it also features a gameplay which is simply not on par with current industry standards. Nevertheless, it's still highly recommended for anyone who is a fan of the series.

Mafia: The Old Country is a formidable entry into the series, one with an engaging yet overly cliché and predictable story filled with beautifully crafted set pieces and great cast performances. While these are all great, the occasional knife fight or stealth sections stall the momentum of the experience at times.

Mafia: The Old Country transports players back to the origins of organized crime, immersing them in a richly detailed historical setting. The game features stunning cinematics that enhance the storytelling experience, accompanied by a breathtaking graphical presentation that captures the grit and glamour of the era. With a variety of gameplay styles available, players can engage in thrilling missions and explore the intricacies of mafia life. This combination of elements truly makes it one of my favorite gaming experiences this year!

Mafia: The Old Country is a solid entry in the long-running franchise. I love the focus on the story, and the runtime is welcome in a world of bloat. The performances are stellar and the visuals fantastic outside of the performance issues. Anyone who enjoys a good mob story should not miss this.

Mafia: The Old Country is exactly what this franchise needed, a return to its roots. By focusing on story, characters, and atmosphere, it delivers an experience that feels both refreshing and classic. The combat, stealth, and driving systems all work together to create a varied, engaging gameplay loop, and the visuals make it one of the most cinematic games I’ve played this year.

Mafia: The Old Country. A cinematic triumph. Familiar tropes, executed flawlessly. Engaging, memorable, and masterfully paced. That is all.

Mafia The Old Country is a good game that I feel is missing just a little bit to make it great. I’ve played through the previous 3 and I think this sits in the middle with the first game for how it compares to the others. Where it lacks in gameplay, it makes up for in story and cinematography (for those wondering, 2 ranks as the best in my eyes and 3 is the lowest).

Mafia: The Old Country is a journey back to the roots of the mafia that captivates with its setting and cinematic narrative. Its mechanics may be conservative and its world lacks gameplay depth, but as an audiovisual narrative, it's a worthwhile experience. It's not the triumphant return of the series, but it is a worthy and solid chapter that feels like good mob cinema played with a controller in hand.

Hangar 13 is definitely on the right track, hopefully we get more Mafia in the upcoming years – most important thing to improve are the repetitive missions.

Everything good about Mafia: The Old Country comes with an asterisk, a "but" that could be omitted. However, we are by no means talking about a bad game.

Mafia: The Old Country really impressed me with its story and cinematic experience. Overall, it feels like a game that fell victim to a few small flaws.

Mafia: The Old Country is like the finest Italian feast. It doesn’t matter that some of the plates the dishes are served on are slightly scratched, as we leave the restaurant full, happy, and a little drunk. I’m truly glad the developers weren’t afraid to return to the roots of the series, highlighting what has always been its greatest strengths. The newest Mafia is a wonderful game that delivers many outstanding experiences and keeps you on edge until the very end. Without a doubt, it’s one of the contenders for Game of the Year.

Mafia: The Old Country is the crown jewel of the series. A story that makes you bleed, laugh, and curse in Sicilian all in the same breath. The graphics will blow your fedora off, the gameplay’s smoother than Sinatra, and the story’s got enough heart to remind you why family, no matter the sacrifice, always comes first. So pour yourself a glass of red, light a cigar, and remember… loyalty and ma familia above all.

Mafia: The Old Country transports us to a remarkable adventure with this prequel set at the beginning of the century. With a perfect story, masterfully told, but poorly accompanied by its embellishments, it has left us with a bittersweet taste. Its gameplay, which is too basic and redundant, detracts significantly from the experience.

Mafia: The Old Country isn't just another game about the mafia-it's a full-fledged journey into a cultural layer of history and cinema, filled with references to The Godfather and similar classics that seamlessly blend into the story and atmosphere. The game isn't perfect, but it's stylish, focused, and cinematic. If you've been missing that very kind of 12–14 hour "film-like" experience, enjoy such narratives, and don't mind a few technical rough edges, this one is worth picking up-titles like this are a rarity nowadays.

While it certainly falters in its gameplay department, I'll always stick around for a classic mafia story, even if I can see the ending from a mile away.

Overall, Mafia: The Old Country offers an incredibly immersive experience that puts players back in 1900s Sicily and makes them truly feel like they're in the period. While the narrative experience is incredibly short, the experience doesn't overstay its welcome, and each chapter and act has a purpose that is executed well. The visuals aren't overly impressive, and some visual issues are a drawback, but the game is an amazing entry in the Mafia series and perhaps even the best for fans.
