Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is overall a great idea, wrapped up in a mundane game. It has its moments when it all "clicks", but they're only moments. Being multiplayer-focused (when the game is begging for an epic SP campaign) the game has a large dependence of its online community - that is already dwindling on some servers - and lacklustre content (though varied), makes it a game that is hard to recommend, and non-compelling to go back to. Though the PC version looks more entertaining at the least with its modding capabilities.

Whether you can enjoy Chivalry: Medieval Warfare depends on how low you are willing to lower your expectations for what a current-gen console game should look and feel like.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a lacking port across the board, and a terrible multiplayer experience for all involved. Any decent content it possesses is buried under a pile of rubbish-based visuals, poor hit detection and missing content. If you must get medieval, be patient and wait for Ubisoft's For Honor. You'll have a far better time – and get a better quality game to boot.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is not a good game. Perhaps if there was a single player campaign, some competent combat, or even some unique online modes, it might be redeeming, but as it stands it is a textbook example of how to ruin a great idea. I imagine the online community also died in the time it took me to write this review, so I guess my best advice would be to stay as far away from this game as possible.

Even with all that said though, it is truly disappointing to have to experience a very solid game that is surrounded by awful visual and audio efforts.

In this day and age of gaming, we are used to high-end graphics and extremely fluid controls and mechanics. Chivalry: Medieval Warfare doesn't really fit the bill in that respect. It's not a pretty game and it lacks in content as well as having slightly awkward mechanics. However, there are decent maps to be seen and a couple of the modes work very well for the game, namely Team Objective and Free for All. You'll get frustrated with the game deign, but also laugh out loud at how ridiculously entertaining it can be at times. It's a bit pricey for what it is, but the achievement lovers among us will be drawn in by a doable list. Chivalry is clearly not the best that current gen consoles can offer, but at least it's not a complete trainwreck.

Though it might not be the next AAA FPS to attempt to dethrone Call of Duty, it offers a remarkable amount of variety and fun in its package. This is an experience only just arriving on the console shores and one that looks to pave the way for more to come in the future. Great fun, easy to play and very chaotic. The perfect Christmas present.
