Even so, if you're a big fan, I can see you grabbing the Super Turbo Championship Edition. The bottom line is that Guacamelee! is one of the most entertaining, engaging, and even innovative titles we've seen in the past year, and all avid gamers owe it to themselves to give it a try. The "Metroidvania" structure somehow blends beautifully with the gaudiness of the Mexican Luchadore theme, and you just never want to stop playing.

Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Edition adds new life to last year's excellent Metroidvania title. Newcomers will enjoy the package, but veterans will struggle to find value.

Guacamelee! is the Big Enchilada when it comes to MetroidVania platformers, and the Super Turbo Championship Edition is very much the ultimate version. Though  riotous fun factor and eyepopping Mexican flair sometimes disguises a few unimaginative challenges, its personality and satisfying gameplay will lock you in for the duration.

It's still good old Guacamelee, but watered with a new sauce and tasty additions. STCE is by far the best and most complete edition of the game. Consider purchasing even if you have a PS3 or Vita version.

The dialog is clever, and uses many pop culture and video game references that made me smile. That, along with the wonderful art style and fantastic soundtrack, makes it a very good deal for only $15. It has some big difficulty spikes, but overall Guacamelee is still a very fun time.

This is a special game. It also puts me in a bit of a quandary. The original game came out last year, but should this version receive game-of-the-year consideration? I have five months to figure that out, because it's the best game I've played in 2014.

DrinkBox wants in on the very prestigious indie-darling club, and now players on a mess of platforms, including the Xbox One, are the benificaries. References strewn about the game are a calling card to DrinkBox's favorite developers in that club, like 'Journey' and 'Castle Crashers.' The game itself exists in adoration of Metroidvania classics. The thing is, DrinkBox only ever needed to create exactly this game for entry, because 'Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition' is its own insane, wild, extravagant, explosive, brilliant beast. It might draw from 'Metroid' and other games in a similar vein, but the pure and creative execution of those ideas, wrapped up in some Mexican glory, bow-tied with delicious melee action, makes 'Guacamelee!' a generation-crossing, 'Super Turbo Championship' classic.

Guacamelee is a fusion of intense platforming and beat-em-up combat, framed in Metroidvania conventions and topped off with a memorable cast, distinct setting, a stellar soundtrack, and zesty humor. These ingredients combine to make for a flavor that's genuinely fresh and incredibly satisfying.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is difficult, fun, and addicting all at the same time. Despite its challenge and difficultly, the game is crafted and balanced enough where you're constantly learning and constantly inspired to work harder to conquer whatever stands in your path.

If you've never played Drinkbox Studios' delicious platformer before, then this is the best place to start. And, while we'd never recommend double-dipping a nacho in real life, we certainly encourage it with this super-charged adventure.

It remains one of the best and most surprisingly great games of the past few years, and this definitive console edition is the best way to experience the game if you haven't already taken the Luchador leap. It's fun, creative, and lasts just long enough to make you wish there was more.

In an era when re-releases are defined exclusively through a hurried assemblage of post-release content, it's nice to see a developer make a genuine effort to improve the whole game and not simply bolt parts on and call it a day. Guacamelee was already a great game, and while not all of the extras for Super Turbo Championship Edition are beneficial, it's tough to say the grand experience isn't better for their inclusion.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition, a title as long and exaggerated as the fun and entertainment this game provides. One of the Wii U's best works, Guacamelee's enhanced version plays like a a "metroidvania" type of game and fills the spaces with a delightful atmosphere, an exquisite artistic component and an affection which is set to grow in the player's heart.

Were it a $60 boxed game, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. The fact that it's available to you instantly and for less than half that, well, I don't need to finish that sentence, because you're not reading anymore.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is a well put together piece of software with a great attention to little details, set in a universe of folklore and culture which is exotic enough in the video game industry to feel highly original, and with a huge deal of humour thrown into the mix for good measure. The tough to master yet easy to understand gameplay, coupled with the many challenges to overcome to fully complete everything do extend the play life into "decent" territory, as it is otherwise a rather short experience for those who will rush through it. Guacamelee! clearly takes a leaf out of a lot of different books in gaming, Metroid being the most obvious, but Castlevania, Megaman, and Zelda are also other clear sources of inspiration, yet it manages to blend it all into what is now its own thing. It sure bases a lot of its appeal on nostalgia for those other franchises and the crowd of references to them thrown all over the place, but this never overshadows its own intrinsic qualities, which are clever design, good production values, great writing and, most of all, a clear love for video games from its creators, which does transpire through their work. Guacamelee! STCE for the Wii U eShop is certainly not a perfect game - it has its couple of minor faults - but never are they detrimental to the overall experience, and this is still a must-have for any fan of the genre.
