Valkyria Chronicles Remastered Reviews
Valkyria Chronicles Remastered polishes up one of the best strategy games in recent memory and brings it to a new console. Buy it now.
While Valkyria Chronicles always had presence of a seminal classic, its latest remaster on PlayStation 4 sets it up for a wider embrace. This is the advantage of being favorably advanced or, at least, distant from genre contemporaries; no matter when or where Valkyria Chronicles is found, it can create personal definition on its own beautiful terms.
Valkyria Chronicles returns again to the big screen.
If you don't really care about portability, I would say the most ideal way to experience this game is to get the PS4 version or the PC port, as they're both cheaper and a more fluid way to play the game. But if you want to play the game on the go, then this the version for you.
A lack of a total visual overall barely detracts from the fact that Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is a total bargain, and the definitive version of the best in strategy
There should be no doubt that Valkyria Chronicles is a modern classic that has earned each one of its fans and accolades.
An esoteric mishmash of genres and with an art style that belies the more sombre elements of the storyline, Valkyria Chronicles isn’t exactly an easy recommend. For me, personally, it all comes together to form a cohesive whole and has reignited my long dormant passion for strategising and turn based combat scenarios but some may come to the game thinking that the RPG elements are much more prevalent rather than simply informing the non-interactive cutscenes.
Valkyria Chronicles received a lot of acclaim during its PS3 debut, and its praises must be sung again in this remastered port. Whatever Sega decides to do with the franchise from here on remains unclear, but at least fans new and old can enjoy one of their finest efforts in the last generation, not to mention one of the single best RPGs period.
If you already own the PC version, the PS4 version doesn’t really add a lot save the enhanced visuals, unless you simply want to own the limited edition tin, or if you simply want to own every version that exists of the game. I own all three versions of the game anyway, so I don’t see why you shouldn’t complete the collection yourself.
Whether you're an old fan who played through the first game or simply someone who has heard of it over the years, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is worth checking out. There's a fantastic narrative, smart gameplay elements, and fresh presentation that make it worth checking out despite the lack of extra features over and above the game and its DLC.
Valkyria Chronicles was a joy to play on the PlayStation 4. If you haven't played the game before, now would be the best time to pick it up. If you already have then I probably don't need to convince you anyways. Valkyria Chronicles is just one of those games - the "one in a million" that does something completely different and "sticks". It definitely stuck with me and I sincerely recommend it, especially if you're a fan of unique strategy games. There's a little bit here for everyone, especially those fond of Japanese productions. Now excuse me, I have a war to win!
Unique in more ways than one, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered should not be missed by any strategy fan, although is perhaps geared more towards those less experienced in the genre. The dark themes are contrasted through a slight anime-styled and humorous set of characters and gorgeous visuals that give off a comic book impression. It needs sticking with in order to reach the meat of the plot, because there is a decent story in there, even if a little predictable. An overreliance on luck and a gameplay design that goes against the nature of skilful strategy in order to achieve A ranks lets it down, but it is a title that is worth experiencing for its clever take on the SRPG formula.
Valkyria Chronicles is, simply, one of the best tactical games you’ll ever play. It’s serious, but doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s emotionally compelling while never losing sight of the fact it’s also a game. It’s a popular and well-regarded game that, for whatever reason, people simply don’t talk about it enough.
Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is about as straight of a port as you can get, but that isn't a bad thing. Valkyria Chronicles looked great to begin with, and the visual improvements only help. It's a little disappointing that the mechanics, story and gameplay haven't seen any noteworthy updates, but it's a great port. Fans of the game should be happy to have one of the smoothest-running versions available, and newcomers will find it the best way to experience the cult classic. Throw in the addition of Trophies, and it's a nice package, but it's strictly average as far as HD remasters go.
A large part of Valkyria Chronicles’ exquisite presentation is due to the beautiful art style used throughout… Trust me, it may be eight years old, but this game still looks great
When it comes to franchises that are worth revisiting in a new console generation, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered stands as a sterling example of how to do things right. Despite a few nagging mechanics that ultimately still feel a bit unfair on the battlefield itself, this is still an evergreen experience that stands the test of time. This should be required playing for all of the former Xbots that are newly joining the PlayStation fold.
Fans of the game should certainly go back to it if they haven’t picked it up off of Steam yet and anyone on the fence should give it a go if they like tactical shooters with small RPG elements.
Valkyria Chronicles Remastered will draw you in with an interesting story then make you stay with a well crafted lore and some stellar strategy gameplay that still feels fresh today - a testament to its quality - even if it can feel a little old in some places.
If you haven’t played Valkyria Chronicles before then now is the time to do it.
The game really caught me off guard as I did not expect much of it when I started playing it , other than the positive feedback I got from other gamers. And it definitely falls into the top 5 games I have played in 2016 so far. Valkyria Chronicles is definitely a one of a kind video game experience that I can wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who has not played the game yet. Even if you don’t enjoy tactical shooters you will never find another gaming experience like this ever again. So give it half a chance and who know you might actually enjoy it. I do hope the game does well this time around because I would love for SEGA to bring Valkyria Azure Revolution here to the west so that we can get a localized release for it.
