Epistory doesn't try to do too much, instead focusing on perfect execution of what it does. The world is gorgeously crafted around you as the narrator lulls you into contentment, but the creeping insect enemies will keep you moving and actively entertained.

Epistory - Typing Chronicles is an incredibly innovative game with an engaging story that has the potential to become one of the best titles of the year. If you throw out your prejudices against an unusual genre, you'll enjoy hours of great entertainment that you'll never forget.

With a lovely aesthetic and creative concepts, Epistory - Typing Chronicles proves to be unique in many ways, being extremely captivating from start to finish. So, whether with Joy-Con or with the unusual help of a USB keyboard, an epic story is literally written in front of us, amusing and delighting like an unprecedented fairy tale.

An original and very well developed idea gives birth to a fascinating, entertaining and quite challenging adventure.

Epistory - Typing Chronicles seriously surprised me. This game takes elements from other games and puts them together in fantastic ways. I was constantly impressed with what the game threw at me, and it left me wanting more when I was done.

The base mechanic may conjure up thoughts of Mavis Beacon, but so much has been built onto that foundation, making Epistory - Typing Chronicles so much greater than just a typing game.

Forgive me, but I’m an absolute sucker for games that do things differently… in fact, I tend to seek them out...

Epistory is a zelda-like adventure in a universe made of paper and words. It has its own style (even if it can't compete with the fascinating inventions of Tearaway), and elegantly mixes combat and exploration. Is a short and compelling experience, but it would have been nice to see more variety in the structure of the dungeons.

While “one of the most inventive typing games out there” is a summary in danger of being mistaken for faint praise, Epistory’s wonderful, paper-craft design and smart, word-based battle system combine to make it exactly that.

Maybe the most enjoyable typing game ever, but it’s clichéd story elements hold it back.

The very core of Epistory – Typing Chronicles is centered around words and story. The narrative and visuals carry over well to the Switch, but the typing combat gimmick requires the cumbersome use of an external keyboard or the built-in adaptation to Joy-Con controls. It's a fun, clever game, but one that's best experienced on the computer.

Epistory takes some interesting chances and sets out to make a decidedly different game than anything we’ve experienced over the last few decades. Those who’ve been yearning for a new typing game may find enough to justify a $12.99 purchase, but Epistory is unlikely to convert any new fans of the genre.

The game gets lost in metonymy, the act of substituting a label for something of a real substance or meaning.

I really would have liked to give Epistory - Typing Chronicles a higher grade. It seems to me a very nice game and with a very good idea behind it, but I do not think it acceptable that something as basic as moving around the stage works so badly when using a traditional controller, and also that the original game arrived in Spanish and its port a Not Nintendo Switch.

Epistory: Typing Chronicles is a beautiful game with a good story, lovely puzzles, exploration and nice battles. You can play it to learn how to touch-type, but it’s not a necessity. I urge you to play it just for fun! Use a keyboard and broaden your vocabulary or use the Switch buttons: both work wonderfully. The origami world of Epistory: Typing Chronicles is gorgeous, seeing new parts of the world literally unfold is magical. The soundtrack is a good match to the feeling of wonder and the storytelling is great. There can only be one conclusion for me.

Epistory recognizes that typing is no longer a novelty. Everyone will be coming to the game with their own typing quirks, and rather than try to strong-arm the player into finally using their pinkie, Epistory wants every player to enjoy typing on their own terms.

It really is a lovely thing, offering a good amount of game for a tenner, rising above its own gimmick to be a little bit special.
