An expensive but really solid puzzle game. Some of the strongest puzzles I’ve ever seen, and while it has a 30 buck price tag, it’s worth it for puzzle fans.

Stephen’s Sausage Roll is tough and tumbly, with a greater emphasis on one’s own form than any other puzzle game, which usually waiver the avatar as too grotesque of its gorgeous world.

Right now, Stephen’s Sausage Roll is the sixth game in the long (loooooong) list of games and tools featured on Stephen’s Increpare Games website, all of which he’s created himself within an incredibly short space of time. The vast majority of those games are free – and I’d urge you to check them out – but Stephen’s Sausage Roll is not. It’s one of the very few things that Stephen’s created that you have to pay for. But you should; it’s worth every penny. And not just because it comes with ketchup.

Stephen Lavelle deserves a pat on the back. Creating a quality puzzle game with a concept as quirky as this is one thing, but going above and beyond to put so much care into crafting such a near-immaculate set of puzzles equally brutal yet forgiving is full-on applause-worthy. To put it simply, Stephen’s Sausage Roll might be some of the meatiest and most delicious food for the mind you’ll taste all year.

It’s a blessing for people like me who will tussle with it over a series of lovely evenings or keep it running in the background to fiddle with throughout the day. For others it will be a royal pain in the arse, an utterly inaccessible gem taunting them with its low poly style and seemingly-simple gameplay.

Stephen's Sausage Roll is a rare, beautiful thing. It's a game where every aspect of it is designed with such incredible care and efficiency that it actually comes together as one cohesive whole. I've been intentionally vague on specifics in order to preserve the sense of exploration and excitement that comes with discovering something brand new for when you play it yourself. Please don't dismiss it because of the price or the fact that you think it looks ugly, because you'd be missing out on one of the greatest games I have ever played.
